Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Aspire R 15's responsive touchscreen, strong performance, and ease of use as significant advantages. Many appreciate its lightweight design and find it offers good value for the price. However, some users point to the hard drive's speed as a potential drawback, along with occasional fan noise and bloatware. A few also mention that the device can get warm during use.

It's okay. I should have gotten one with a smaller screen. Keyboard very sensitive; it takes me to different screens while I'm trying to type often.

Within about 3 months of purchase, screen started untermittently flickering. Sometimes it would go dark. A tap or whack would light it again. It grew progressively worse. So, 4+ months after purchase, I took it back for warranty repair. Had to be sent out of state, so doing w/o computer ~ 10 days. Hopefully it will work when it's returned. :-\

This computer was nice at first and then quickly spiraled downwards. After several months the computer has lagged more than any computer I've ever used. Powering it on could take several minutes and then until all the programs load, takes even longer. Even after continuously cleaning out the computer it still made little difference. Just an overall slow computer.

When I heard about this laptop on Tech Insider, I immediately did some research on it and found the specs impressive. So I requested it from TIN, and several days later it arrived at my house. I was excited to unbox the unit, so I cut open the box... And it's a box inside a box! Probably to hide what's really inside. Opening the second box, I find the laptop inside that box, and also an AC Adapter, and charger cord inside along with some warranty information. So I examine the laptop to see how it looks, very nice, slim profile, cooling vents are awesome on this unit, USB 3.1! (One port) 2 USB 3.0 ports, and one USB 2.0 ports. Looking on the other side, there is the volume button and the power button. What about a battery to install, or an Ethernet port? Nope.... Battery is integrated into the unit. If the battery ever fails, you'll have to send it in to get it replaced. You can't service it yourself like old laptop models. And if there is ever a battery recall.... Well you lose productivity and have to send the unit it as well. In regards to the missing Ethernet port, that's a big factor to me, I can understand Dial Up Modems not being included anymore, but for no Ethernet to be included is a deal breaker for me to an extent. The plus is that the Wifi that's integrated into the laptop allows connection to the 5Ghz band so the wifi connection is more reliable. Another gripe is the power button and the volume button on the right side of the laptop. I did not care for this design, and seems it can be prone to failure or other issues. And to top it off.... There are also function keys that control the volume so I don't understand the need for two sets of volume controls. When you take it out of the box, prepare for a long setup time. I think my average setup time was 45 minutes for the initial setup, and then it took longer to strip the junk from it. If you're going to create a recovery drive, you're going to need to purchase either a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 Flash Drive,at least 8GB. Prepare for 30 minutes to create the flash drive average if using USB 2.0 and a considerable bit lower when using USB 3.0. Once everything was in the clear, I decided to test the touch screen on the unit, very responsive, I did not notice any issue with slowdown or lag, or issues where if you pushed on the screen too much, you would see a minor bleed effect. Well built screen! Had also tested the game and I can run Super Street Fighter IV on max details on 720p, can even run Devil May Cry 4 (Not the remaster) with Direct X 10 enabled on full details with a smooth framerate at 720p. So if the XBOX 360 could run it, you have save bets for this laptop. It is very gaming friendly but you need to keep your resolutions at 720p if you want the maximum details, and if you want a more smooth framerate at 1080. you'll need to reduce the detail to keep the framerate up. Overall this laptop is fantastic, and build quality is great, and with the inclusion of keys that light up, what's not to love about this laptop despite it's minor design quirks.

I love the feature of being able to use this as a tablet also; however, when going back to keyboard use, it doesn't reconnect the keyboard. So each time I have to restart. Also, it's kinda slow to open apps or even use the internet, and when they do start, it sometimes just closes for no reason. Almost want to return it just for that reason.

I am having nothing but problems with this laptop. 1. Touchscreen works intermittently. 2. Touchpad stops working at random times. I have to always have a mouse connected. 3. Today I have had 3 kernel security check failure shutdowns. 4. There is so much bloat loaded, in large part because of Windows 10, that I am going with a Mac for my next computer. I don't want the motherf'ing Skype for Business, and I don't want Skype to load every time. I don't want Skype at all, thanks to Microsoft. Kaspersky must be conflicting with the pre-loaded security that I have tried to remove. 5. As I type this I have had 3 pop-ups about sticky keys.

I am not a fan of this computer. It has issues connecting to the internet and freezes all the time on the internet. It constantly has to be restarted. I would definitely rather go back to buying an HP and not buy an Acer again.

A very nice computer with some compromises

This computer is a really mixed bag. There are good and bad aspects to just about every component, so lets walk through some of them. Screen: having a fully HD screen is nice, and relatively uncommon on laptops for some reason. Text is crisp and readable, and images show up very nicely. However, the edges of the screen are not as bright as the center. There is a slight dimming around all edges but the left side (perhaps this is where more of the back-lights are positioned). An additional down-side is that the screen is oddly yellow. When the computer arrived it was very yellow, and I had to go through the Windows re-calibration process (something I've never had to do before), and it is much better, but still rather yellow. This gets more pronounced when you dim the screen below full brightness. Tablet function: it is great to be able to flip the screen around and use it like a massive tablet. After doing this for a little while, it grew on me and is really a lot of fun. However, depending on how you position it in your lap (in portrait position) you may inadvertently hit the volume rocker or even the power button. This isn't a big deal, but is worth mentioning so you don't suddenly think, "what the H is going on here?" Speakers: they exist. They're not great. The audio will pretty much always be a little distorted, particularly if you turn the volume all the way up. Keyboard: standard chicklet style with a nice back-light and good feeling response. Very easy to type on. Touch-pad: this is a nice feeling and responsive touch-pad. Good feeling and an excellent size. No complaints. Connectivity: for a slim laptop there are a good number of connections. 1 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB type C, full-size HDMI output, SD card slot, and a headset jack. Indicators: There are lights for charging and power, but nothing else. It is a little odd to not have an indicator of caps-lock or num-lock. Styling: this is a really nice looking computer. The metallic finish is beautiful and the lid has a subtle cross-hatch pattern which is quite classy. Battery: the given estimates seem accurate, but this is, of course, highly dependent on how bright you have the screen. TL,DR: this is a very nice computer, but with some compromises, likely to achieve a particular price point. The screen is very nice, but with some dimming on the edges. The speakers are serviceable, but not great. The tablet functionality is really fun on a computer of this size. The keyboard, touch-pad, and connectivity options are all great.

This 3in1 laptop was almost unusable right out of the box. With no extra software installed, startup takes minutes, Microsoft 10 mail app and Edge browser are slow and freeze and crash consistently. Opening other apps or installed software can take minutes as well. Converting from laptop to tent to tablet is recognized and switches correctly maybe half the time. Scrolling a website page with one finger zooms the page as often as it actually lets you scroll. Wish I had returned this worthless machine within the return timeframe but I was too busy with other things and missed the deadline so I'll be trying to sell it for maybe half price, which is what it's worth out of the box. I'll also never be buying another acer.

I bought this computer after using a Lenovo ideapad, and was quite disappointed with this Acer. It's the slowest computer that I have used since 2005. It still works, but I'm not satisfied.

First time with an Acer and haven't had a lot of luck with it. Either I'm just not used to this computer or it's a lemon. Sorry but I really don't have anything good to say about it.
