Customers consistently note the Aspire R 15's responsive touchscreen, strong performance, and ease of use as significant advantages. Many appreciate its lightweight design and find it offers good value for the price. Not worth the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seemed like a nice computer but it's pretty slow and I have only had it for 30 days with minimal use. Not only that but the battery dies extremely fast.

A Good Laptop for General Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice little laptop. The i5 gives it the performance needed for a modern general purpose Computer and the 8GB of RAM helps keep the PC keep pace with switching between apps and not getting sluggish. The bloatware on this PC was a minimum. Just the Virus McAfee, which isn't too hard to remove and really not needed as Windows 10 default AV/Antimalware solution works well. Just ignore the scary warning is all when you uninstall. Your PC will be protected. Additionally a few other pieces of software such as games and such that are not needed. Acer's additional apps weren't too bad, and easily removed. I was disappointed that out of the box this PC does not meet Windows 10 Home ability to use device encryption. I don't like having unencrypted laptops. I did have a Windows 10 Pro key, which I used to access bitlocker, other may not care, or use 3rd party programs but it annoyed me. What is really slowing this PC down is the lack of an SSD, at least during setup and adding/removing programs as the 5400 RPM disk becomes a bottle neck. I like the space of 1TB, but that drive, after having all my other computers running SSD is making me look to upgrade this PC. However unless you are doing a lot of heavy disk I/O tasks at the same time you won't notice. In fact once it was setup, and just used as a basic computer for Office/Internet/Web conferencing I don't notice. The screen is a nice IPS panel. It folds easy and while 15" is a bit large for a tablet it was nice to be able to put the PC in that configuration and have it directly on my lap while using another computer/device. The PC didn't get hot and holding it like that was comfortable in that regard. I won't comment on the touchpad, because I jkust hate all touch pads, but having the ability to touch the screen makes this a better experience as I can skip the touch pad as needed.Overall if you are looking for a PC to consume streaming media/Office work (Not Office is a 30 day trial additional purchase needed)/Internet this is a good PC. The screen is great. Speakers are good for a laptop and loud enough to hear without the need of an external Bluetooth speaker. This is the laptop for you, but I would highly consider upgrading the Hard Drive to 1TB, but once you get out of the box setup done and get the apps updated and installed you want, you may not notice except during reboots etc. For when I want to sit on my chair and stream something, or do some general word processing this has been a great computer. The lack of the SSD marks it down a star, but that is easily fixed these days.

Seems Like An Excellent Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually don't review a product after owning it for a week but this machine seems like a great buy for the price with features only seen on much more expensive machines. a lighted keyboard, very thin design, etc. I was concerned how I was gonna hook up my printer since it has no disc drive but it practically attached itself when it sniffed out my network. it took less time than when I did it by disc on my previous machine. I come from a win7 machine and getting used to win10 was relatively easy to my surprise. there are still things that my win7 machine did that I haven't figured how to do on this machine so I bought win10 for dummies. I wanted an SSD but for the price I can't complain. I even got $150 off for a student discount. based upon the reviews here i'm pretty certain I made a good choice. I gave it 4 stars only for being new and not knowing all it's potential. i'm sure i'll give it 5 stars once i'm more familiar with it.

Great Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After some daily use I have to say this is a really good laptop. The ability to flip the screen all the way over or even just part way over to use it as a stand is more useful than I ever thought it would be. Pro's: The laptop is very thin yet still has weight to it as to not seem flimsy or cheap. The hinge for the display looks to be well designed and it provides enough friction to hold the screen at almost any angle without issue. It is nice that the Laptop comes with a USB C port which will work great whenever I finally get some USB C devices. The display is very clear and is view-able at almost any angle unlike a lot of other laptop displays i have seen. It's also very bright which is nice if you use it in a well lit office. Overall build quality seems top notch for a laptop at this level and its nice that it comes with a decent sized 1-TB hard drive. Cons: While using this laptop I noticed that the touchpad can be very very touchy. I personally don't mind it but it may drive some other people up the wall. My wife prefers to use a wireless mouse instead of the touch pad because of it. There is not an easily swapable battery pack. Most newer laptops seem to be going to this model so that they can be smaller and thinner but I would have like to have a removable battery that is easy to get to just in case I ever need to change it or if I am on a trip and don't have access to power for charging it would have been nice to have the option to swap out the battery. Also the computer comes pre-loaded as a lot of new computers do with a bunch of stuff that I don't necessarily need or want. It just means that it takes me longer to do initial setup as I have to uninstall the things I don't need. It's nice that office is pre-installed but it is a little annoying in that its really only a 30 day trial if you don't already have an office 365 subscription. Overview: Overall I like the laptop. Its one of the better laptops I have used in recent memory and was also one of the easiest to get up and running even with the pre-loaded software that I uninstalled.

Fun!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for college and I love everything about it. The keyboard is perfect! The touch screen is on point and I love using it as a tablet. I'm worried about battery life though when I'm watching videos, it'll be fully charged and say I only have 2 hours. When I'm just browsing or typing anything the battery life says around 5-6 hours. I've just bought it though so I'll see how battery life is. Other than that it's a lot of fun to play with. Seems fast and the screen is beautiful! The sales person took his keys and scratched it against the screen of the display computer and it didn't leave any marks! Feels like it's built well, I'm in love :)

Outstanding performance in a small package
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I exchanged a two-week-old Lenovo with huge problems and a similar configuration for this Acer (thanks to the good folks at Best Buy for setting this up). I have only owned this computer for two days, but she already feels like an old friend. Quick and easy setup. Great graphics, nice backlit responsive keyboard, incredible screen. So far she has handled everything I've thrown at her with no hint of trouble. Light, super fast and responsive, and overall outstanding performance. With the metal casing, there is a premium look and feel to this computer. Again...I have only owned this laptop for two days, but so far this Acer is nothing short of outstanding.

Great Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop a few days ago and man do I love it. This computer has everything I was looking for in a laptop (expect for an SSD) however I felt I could live without it considering the price for this machine. I have never owned an Acer always HP, had it for 7 years and it was time for an upgrade. I do really like this laptop fast, beautiful design and enough ports not to mention the PRICE again you wont be disappointed.

Great purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was on the lookout for a new laptop and had specific specs which the salesperson helped me find in this model. It is powerful with sufficient USB ports, has lots of room and healthy ram, is a 2-in-1 which sounded like a good idea for more choices in location uses, the sound was loud enough and the screen is so sharp and clear. The only thing I would change is adding lights to let one know that number lock and caps lock are on (although a padlock appears on screen briefly). Feels very solid and slim.

Has all the best specs at the best price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to search for a new laptop for college this semester. With a certain budget, I stumbled upon this laptop. The specs stood out among competitors as well as the price with the student college coupon from Best Buy. I got the i5 and I spent less than $600 and I'm satisfied about this purchase. The best part of this laptop is that it's light, thin, and display is outstanding. I have used Photoshop in this laptop no problem. Daily average surfing on the web is smooth with no lag. I have also played intense Counter Strike Global Offensive with surprisingly great FPS at high performance and medium settings. There's so much great things I can say about this laptop! Purchase it if you're considering to buy a budget laptop and it won't hurt if you don't like it :)

Nice 2n1 computer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice machine. It has a nice feel, not too heavy on your lap. Out of the box I was up running connected to wifi in about 10 minutes. It has a really bright display and looks good. The switch from keyboard to tablet is seamless and has a great touch response, very quick. Comes preloaded with the standard apps and trials (Office, Security etc.). Nice access to App Store to get what you want loaded. Netflix picture looked brilliant on this display. HDMI port access allows for connection to the big screen. Webcam is good quality and displays a good picture in HD quality.

Exactly what I was looking for...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only had this for several days at the moment, but I'm completely satisfied at this time (we'll see how it goes in the long haul). I was looking for a family workhorse between $500-$700, 2-in-1 touchscreen, 1080p, 8GB ram and a 1TB hard drive. Found four at Best Buy...one across town had all four so away I went... The other three were ok, but they didn't have this one on the floor as they were waiting for the old model to sell out first. Somehow my wife convinced them to pull one out and fire it up...I knew after a few minutes that this was the one. This has the newer, faster ram...speakers sound better than any other laptop I've tried (for<$1000)...screen looks great...keypad has a large "0" like my split keyboard, so hitting with my thumb still works (some others have a small "0" buried between some keys)...and the keyboard is backlit. The only thing it's missing is the DVD/CD drive...but none of the four had one. An external USB drive will still work out...and since it had the most USB ports (4), it'll be easy to connect along with my wireless mouse, backup drive, etc. Hands down, I think this computer is better than anything else available around this price range. If you're looking for something similar, at least track one of these down to take a look for yourself...

Thin-Smoth-Fast
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This machine is one of the quickest laptops I have ever used. It has a very large screen, but when closed is very thin and lightweight. Setup only took a few minutes and we were on our way. The TouchScreen is a nice "touch". If you still use Optical Media (CD's and Blu-Rays) you will need an external add-on drive. It has all the current ports right on it. Adapter is small as well. Good Machine

A great performing laptop for the price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even though this model has long been discontinued I figured I'd give a quick review. This laptop is now 7 years old and still works just fine. The only thing I did to it was replace the HDD with a SSD. It's definitely not fast by todays standards but works perfectly. Even the battery still has usable life left.

Really great for its price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for college and it's really fast when starting up and shutting off and impressive. It's deff a plus that it turns into a tablet and is a touch screen! I just need to purchase a stylus and I'll be able to digitally draw on it since I don't have the money for a drawing tablet at the moment.

Died within 2 weeks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is packed with good specs and the battery lasts about 5 hours. The screen is really vibrant and responsive. The processor is really fast and I really liked the speed with which it compiled and ran my programs (I'm a Computer Science student). Unfortunately, it died after 10 days. The power button won't work nor the LED indicator light up if connected to the charger. Was really disappointed as I was really impressed and was looking forward to use this laptop for a good period. Perhaps, this was a defective piece but considering this was the first Acer laptop I've tried, I'm now a little skeptical about the brand.

Far too many flaws for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop because the majority of the reviews I saw were positive and it was relatively cheap for the processing power and the 1080HD touch screen. However I have since noticed several problems with the laptop, all of which you can find through google on forums, but rarely in reviews. First problem - The vents are only on the bottom, and there are very few holes. This mean when the fan runs, it is very loud because of the air being pushed out of the few holes. Also, it means that if your laptop is overheating having it on a table will be blocking the vents, preventing it from cooling down. Very poor design. I can't believe I didn't notice this in the store before purchasing it. Second problem I noticed - The right screen hinge makes a cracking sound when opening/shutting. I have NEVER dropped the laptop, put anything on top of it, or done anything to damage it in any way. But when I shut and open the lid, sometimes there will be a cracking sound in the right hinge. Sometimes the lid won't even shut all the way on the right, and you have to push down near the hinge to pop it into place. Some forums said that acer had a manufacturing problem and were missing a screw. I don't know if that is true, but there is definitely something wrong. Third problem I noticed - Backlight bleed. The screen is amazing, everything looks beautiful....except the color black. If you want to watch a horror movie or play a dark game, be prepared to notice some backlight bleeding through. It's not that bad if you turn the brightness down, and I'm sure many people wouldn't notice it, but it bothers me. Fourth issue - The laptop lags when it is plugged in. I'm a gamer and noticed that when running on battery I was getting 200 Frames per second, but when plugged in it dropped dramatically. I've done every windows 10 power/charging option possible to maximize performance, and I am using the official Acer charger, but nothing has helped. There are some forums with the same problem that have not been resolved either, all with Acer laptops. Also, some other issues: The battery is built into the laptop. To replace it, you have to take apart the laptop, which from what I've read is complicated on these models. So unless you are computer savvy or willing to hire someone, when your battery dies it cannot be replaced. No CD/DVD drive. Overall I would not recommend this laptop. You can do better for the money

Very poor quality!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop from best buy couple years ago Initially I was very impressed with it's specs. It worked ok for first six months, after that hard drive and fan got really noisy and soon it won't even start. Screen would be blank and hard drive would make loud noise. I went back using my old 17" gateway laptop which still works perfect(knock on wood!) I would never buy another acer.
