Premium Looks and Feel, Decent Performance

The aluminum casing on the lid and surface are premium, and the soft touch of the entire backside is luxuriant. Build quality is excellent--higher than I expected from this price point. Hinges are solid and firm, but easy enough to manipulate into tent, display, or tablet mode. The 1080p HD display is beautiful--and surprisingly resistant to fingerprints. Although my unit had one pixel DOA, I take that as an exception and not the rule. Images are rich and text is clear. The bezel is thinner than on most 15.6" screens. It's still a border, but not the obtrusive wide ones on budget models. Watching movies on this unit is a joy. The backlit keyboard feel is smooth, with a very slight indentation on each key for surety while typing. Speaker sound from the unit itself is high quality. The Core i5 7th gen processor is responsive and quick, and 8GB of RAM, while fairly standard now does help performance, but this unit could definitely benefit from a solid state hard drive. With all the cloud services in use, 1TB HDD is plenty of space, and 500GB SSD would be plenty still and faster. Casual users will likely not notice any lag at all, but that SSD would make this smooth as butter. Hopefully, Acer includes that as an option for configuration. I noticed a little heat from the processor, but nothing to warrant concern as it does not "run hot" even while playing games on Steam. The 2 USB 3.0 ports are much appreciated and blazing fast for transferring data or loading music onto the new machine. Battery life seems as stated, pretty solid 7-8 hours of general use streaming, working, etc. This is a good value for the money with some unexpected premium perks, but opt for SSD if available. One note--get rid of all the bloatware right off the bat. I can't believe those silly game packages are even still on personal PC's anymore. A minor annoyance, but I did not expect so much fluff to be preinstalled.

I was pleasantly surprised with this laptop. It has so many different functions and uses. It is my first touch screen computer and the screen is extremely responsive. The colors are vibrate as they just pop from any angle. I appreciate that I am able to work on the computer and then push the screen back, flip it over and use it as a tablet. I think I'm getting spoiled now because it's great for reading. The screen is large and makes reading easy and fun. There are so many features that I haven't used all of them yet. I still have a lot to learn, but as of today, I'm extremely pleased and impressed with this laptop. I don't see a reason why anyone needs to or should pay a lot of money for a laptop when this one is perfectly priced and serves so many purposes.

Worth it for the Screen Alone!

This is a very good bang for your buck laptop, with all the features of a great 2-in-1 for a great home laptop. I'm very surprised at home much I like this laptop given I haven't always associated Acer with great products rather I've seen them more as the budget PC manufacturer. I have the Core i5 model , 8 gb RAM, and 1 TB hhd. Build: The build quality of this PC is like nothing I've seen from Acer. Rather than a cheap plastic case, Acer went with a metal lid and keyboard plate and a soft touch plastic bottom. This things feels sturdy and solid. Virtually no creaks or snaps when you pick it up. Holding this laptop you know you are holding a premium piece of hardware. Screen: The 1080p screen is one of the best I've seen on a laptop ever, especially at this price point. It is bright, the colors are great and the 1080p resolution makes it look great. There is virtually no space between the touchscreen and the actual LCD panel, which is not something I have seen on every touch screen Windows laptop. The multi-touch feature works very well and I find myself using it the most While watching videos or movies in tablet mode. The hinge on the screen is very strudy and does not wiggle when you tap the screen. The screen rotates 360 degrees allowing you to use it as a very large tablet. I get the most use out of this feature flipping the screen into "Presentation Mode" to watch videos. I don't really see the practicality of a 15.6 inch tablet that weighs 5 lbs, so I don't use "tablet mode" at all. Keyboard: The keyboard types very well. The keys are well spaced out and have plenty of key travel. The backlit keys making typing at night a breeze. The only small annoyances I have with this keyboard, and they are small, is the backspace key is slightly smaller than I'm used too and the up/down arrow keys are both half the size of a normal key. Both of which I'm sure I'll get used to. Performance: So far this laptop has been screaming fast. I use it mainly to check emails, watch YouTube, Netflix and surf the web. Nothing terribly processor intensive but, it has run multiple windows and videos without problems. The battery life is average. Acer says it lasts 8 hours but, I haven't gotten that much yet. I get about 6 hours on a charge, though I do keep the screen brightness on full. Windows 10: It is leaps and bounds better than Windows 8 but, I still find a few of it's quirks annoying. Microsoft still hasn't figured out how to completely merge the touch word and keyboard/mouse world seamlessly into one. There are small things like the presence of two browsers edge and Windows 10. Edge works great in touch and fairly well with a keyboard too. But, will only allow you to pin websites to the start menu. To pin sites to the taskbar you have to use Internet Explorer. The next is the Control Panel/Settings apps. Why there is a need for both, I do not know. The settings app seems to be nothing more than a dumbed down version of Control Panel. Bloatware: This is my biggest complaint of this laptop. It comes preloaded with: Acer suite software, MacAfee Trial, App Explorer, a game store, amazon and kindle apps, an eBay shortcut, and Dashlane password management. I'm sure I'm missing some. None of these are useful and I spent the first few hours of owning this laptop uninstalling all these apps. Overall: For the price it's a very good laptop and I can deal with uninstalling all the apps. If you are looking for a 15 inch Windows PC that can double as a touch screen tablet, this is a great option for you.

The laptop is solidly built and opens smoothly all the way to the tablet position. The illuminated keyboard is a wonderful and not to bright to be overwhelming. The inclusion of a USB type C helps for future items. There is no removable battery or a disk drive which makes the laptop slim. The processor seems to be fast enough to handle multitasking with ease. The only downside I could find was the weight. It is a little on the heavy side to use as a tablet but expected as such for a laptop this size.

This thing has lasted years, and I'm surprised! I will add i did need to change the hard drive, but that was about 3 years after original purchase. It's been through kids downloading things, streaming videos, gaming, web browsing.. Have not needed to replace anything else! I originally purchased this is 2017. The only downfall is battery life and finding a cord to match. I wouldn't mind having to keep it plugged in, just haven't been successful at finding a replacement cord.

I received this laptop in exchange for a review. Acer has released an upgrade to a middle-of-the road laptop that would be good for most casual users. The performance isn't overly impressive, but it does have some neat features. It's a "convertable" laptop with a touch screen, so it folds back and uses Windows 10's tablet mode. You can use it like a tablet in your lap, as a stand-up tablet in a reverse L-shape, or stand it in tent mode on a table for watching videos or reading. Build Quality Acer seems to have put together a pretty solid laptop here. The top of the case and area around the keyboard and trackpad have a brushed metal look. The hinges are also nice, which is needed, since the laptop screen can fold all the way back. The screen is clear and bright and responds to touches pretty well. Occasionally, the touch screen is too senstive and will pinch to zoom while I am trying to scroll. The bottom is a solid piece of plastic that wraps around the sides, so it looks like getting inside to service or upgrade components could be a challenge. Ports and Accessories Down the left side of the laptop, there are 7 ports or other items. There is a security slot for a lock, the power jack, a USB Type-C port, an HDMI port, two USB 3.0 compatible ports and a headphone jack. The right side of the device has a power button, a USB 2.0 port, a volume rocker and an SD card reader. No optical drive, but that's becoming more and more common on laptops anymore. Processor and Memory The laptop comes equiped with the Intel Core i5-7200U, which, as indicated by the sticker on the palm rest, is a 7th generation version of the Core i5. It's clocked at 2.5 GHz with the ability to overclock it to 3.1 GHz according to Intel. This chip comes with integrated graphics, but no dedicated graphics card. Additionally, this laptop comes with 8 GB of RAM, which is a decent amount for most users. Hard drive The hard drive is a "marketing" 1 terabyte/1000 gigabyte drive. This means there is actually 931 gigabytes of usable storage (more here if you are curious https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive#Capacity). When you include Windows 10, mandatory updates, and the bloatware that comes preinstalled, you are working with less than 900 GB, or about 10% less than actually advertised. Also, it's a spinning disk drive at only 5400 RPM. Keyboard/Trackpad The keyboard is the chicklet style, similar to what you would find on a MacBook. Acer also managed to fit a compressed number pad along the right side. There is a function/Fn key as well that allows you to control other aspects of the computer using the regular keys (volume, screen brightness, media controls, wireless, turn off trackpad, etc.) Speaking of the trackpad, it's a solid pad with no visible buttons. It can be clicked along the bottom edge. Clicking on the bottom right or using two fingers to tap is a right click. The trackpad comes aligned with the spacebar on the keyboard, so it sits left of center. This is fine while typing, but it takes some getting used to. I've found myself accidentaly right clicking while using it on my lap. Also, it can be a bit too sensitive. Occassionally, I would start selecting text on a web page while moving the mouse. Pre-installed software As you might expect, Acer pre-installed software onto this machine. Some weird things I found were eBay, Priceline and Amazon links installed as apps. I'm sure Acer was paid for including those, but I immediately removed them. Also, there were other applications that I removed, including Dashlane Upgrade Service, SweetLabs App Explorer, WildTangent App Explorer and McAfee. It also included a pre-installed version of candy crush, which my wife likes. There was also a pre-installed version of Firefox with several add-ins enabled. I removed that and grabbed a clean installation of Firefox. Finally, Acer is trying to push a cloud service, so I counted 8 separate Acer-branded applications in my start menu. Seems like a bit much. Many people will likely start with a clean install of Windows 10 anyway.

For years I've been wanting a 2 in 1 laptop that was easy to carry around but yet powerful enough to do what I needed. I have to say the Aspire R15 fits the bill. I'm not sure how light it is compared to other 15" laptops but compared to my 17" beasts it's a feather! It has a full HD 1080 screen. I thought that might be a problem in 15" screen buy amazingly it's not. Websites are easy to read. And speaking of websites. I have several tablets and I love their portability but it's not unusual for a "Tablet" or "Mobile" website to be dumbed down and not give you all the features they offer on the PC. Netflix is a good example. For that reason it's important to have access to a PC to view the site and it's among the reasons why I still think PC's are relevant. Let's talk about one of the key features of the laptop, the 2 in 1. The screen flips all the way around and it's awesome! Even if you didn't want it to be like a tablet, having the screen going past 135 degrees is nice. When you flip it past horizontal you are prompted to put it in tablet mode (you can default this). When you accept this, you now have a 15" tablet. Oh man, I've waited a long time for that! The keyboard and mouse become inactive and the touch screen is now your only input to the system. Schweet. Getting back to the screen. It's wonderful. Bright and crisp. There is a little light leakage on the corners when watching a dark movie but it's not a big deal for me. Another nice part of the screen is the feel. This is a touchscreen. If you've touched some cheaper tablets you know that not all screens are made equal. This screen has a nice silky feel to it and it's sensitive as well. One of the super nice additions to laptops are backlit keys. The R15 has them and it's used in a pretty cool way. Everything is dark until you touch a key. Then the illuminate for several seconds and then turn off so you aren't wasting battery. The only small issue with this is that you have to hit a KEY. I would have thought the mouse would be enough to turn them on. Which means you will have to either pick the right key to start with or back it out, or use a reasonable innocent key like the Start or Fn. The connection to WiFi is very good. I wasn't getting any dropouts. It will speak to both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz WiFi. I assume for both cost cutting and weight cutting, there is NO Ethernet port. If you intend to be hard wired, this laptop is not for you (unless there is some kind of USB adapter). I had no problem streaming content on this system which makes it great as an alternative to a large TV. The look and feel of the laptop is nice. It has a nice darkish brushed steel look. The keyboard is not mushy and is comfortable. The keys have a slight curve in them for a nice feel. The mouse pad is like the screen, silky and responsive. The speakers on the system are actually very nice. It didn't have booming bass but movie dialogue was accurate, music sounded fine, it had good volume. I'm very pleased with the sound. In another cost and weight cutting measure, the laptop has no DVD drive. Overall I'm very pleased with the R15 and I look forward to streaming Movies and TV on a nice size screen. Good: PC or Tablet Mode via the flip screen Beautiful screen Full HD Display Good sound Auto backlit keys Lights on the front that show charging and that the unit is on Nice brushed steel build Key are nicely curved and easy to press Dedicated Numeric Keypad USB 3.1 C Type Connector Port HDMI Port Lightweight Bad: No Ethernet connection No DVD drive

Nice replacement for my aging HP. Nice quality, design. Like the 2 in 1 option. Could have done better with an SSD instead of HDD. Battery life is descent. 9 hrs is great but that depends on settings and what one is doing. Pricing is not bad, plenty of ports, even has a USB-C port which may come in handy later down the line when more option come into use

After my Dell Inspiron Touch Screen laptop died after only 14 months of use, I went on the hunt for a similar but better touchscreen laptop, After hours and hours of research, this one just came up as the best for the price. I like Acer products and have a few so I went for it. I really like it. The screen is bright and the graphics are much better than my old Dell. The build feels sturdy and I love the extra long power cord. The computer is fast and doesn't lock up or crash. The webcam is surprisingly good. Much better than any I have had on prior laptops or tablets. The only thing I don't love is that it takes forever to boot up and that is the fault of Windows 10. I am looking to see if I can install a SSD to fix that issue. The keyboard is good but I worry a bit about it since it doesn't seem as sturdy as the rest of the computer. The laptop works well in all modes. I am enjoying the tablet mode as well as the other modes. I am very pleased right now but we all know that longevity is extremely important and my Acer is on a few weeks old. I will update if I start to have issues. Right now, I feel I made the best choice for my everyday use and simple games. Oh! I should add that the sound is great. I am hearing impaired and this laptop has the best sound of any of the ones I have owned or do own now. I withheld a star until I know the computer will perform this well in six months.

It's thin, lightweight, and has a nice finish. Feels very sturdy. Keyboard layout is nice with a full numeric keypad in a compact size and is backlit which is a nice bonus. Out of the box, and surfing the internet after about 15 minutes of initial setup. Not a lot of productivity software. It includes a 30 day trial of Office and a 30 day trial of the antivirus. I'll probably just buy both of those. This is my first touch screen laptop, so that's a novelty for me. It seems like a very good interface, easy to use, automatically switches to tablet mode. My problem with this feature is that it's like a tablet, but not actually with any of the benefits. That is, it's heavier, bulkier, etc, than a tablet, but it is a nice feature otherwise. Depends on what your use for it is. Features: The screen is a nice size, 15.6". It's clear, bright, about what I expect. The processor is the latest generation Core I5 processor from Intel, very fast. 8GB of Ram is probably more than most people need, but I wouldn't want any less for longevity. The operating system is Windows 10 (which I'm still new to). Battery life seems to be really good. Lasts for hours, watching netflix (using headphones), playing games on the web, browsing, etc. Wifi connectivity is great with the latest networking standards (AC), there is no ethernet port for wired connectivity. Bluetooth connectivity is available for syncing with your phone or pairing with a wireless headset or headphones. Ports: There is an SD card slot, and HDMI port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a USB C port, and a USB 2.0 port. That should be plenty to connect any devices that you would need. My preference would be to eliminate the USB 2.0 port in favor of an additional USB 3.0 port, otherwise I'm happy with the available ports. Drives: there's a 1 TB hard drive, which seems like more space than anybody would ever need. It's a relatively slow 5400RPM, but I haven't noticed any lag when accessing it. There doesn't seem to be any external hard drive activity light. Obviously an SSD would be faster/better. There is no optical drive (DVD-RW), so installing new software will have to be done either via download or connecting an external drive. Not the most convenient, but realistic these days. This laptop runs much much cooler than my previous one, based on my lap test. Overall, this is a great laptop that I would definitely recommend.

This laptop is very nice, pretty snappy, and quiet under load. The build quality is fantastic! The hard drive isn't the best, but it's nice. I actually opened mine up and installed an SSD which makes this machine fly! I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are very comfortable with computers. The HDD/SSD is connected via a ribbon cable nestled underneath the battery, and it's very easy to pull the cable out which would require an expensive repair. However, if you're up for it, it's completely worth it!

Where do I begin with this? A few things I love, the screen is in HD so you see clear, sharp images. The webcam also shoots pictures and videos in HD so live streaming displays excellent picture.. touchscreen is excellent. 1tb memory and 8gb of ram make for excellent storage and the ability to use multiple programs at once. Bluetooth, multiple USB ports, excellent audio. I can go on for days. Everyone has there own needs when it comes to computers, but I will say that no matter what you want a computer for, this one.can most probably do it. Highly recommend!
