    Amazing Computer!

I got this computer to use for school and it has worked out perfectly! I first bought the HP 15 inch laptop on sale for $389 but ended up returning it before I even turned it on because it was too cheap feeling, too wide and too heavy. I'm studying web programming at school and needed a computer that could handle virtualization (running multiple operating systems at once). At first I thought 6GB of memory would be enough but I found out 8GB is a good minimum for my needs. I love almost everything about this computer! It is light, fast, the battery is AMAZING, the screen is retina quality, and the touchscreen tablet mode was unexpectedly useful. The two problems I have are that sometimes I get double key strokes when I'm typing and you have to press down the fnc key in order to hit the 'end' and 'home' keys. The latter is only a problem because I do a lot of coding but definitely not a deal breaker. I'm SO glad I traded the clunky HP in for this!!

This a great laptop. The speed is incredible. Build quality is great. The Wifi is strong and reliable. (It manages to maintain a reliable connection where other gadgets struggle). Great Dolby Sound that's actually enjoyable. Battery life is good. USB Type C makes it a bit more future proof. Back lit keyboard! OMG! I was so excited about this one. The ability to use the laptop at night with no limitations. This should be standard now. Complainnts: The keyboard keys are a bit mushy with little feedback making typing a bit frustrating. Windows 10 continue to have bugs as you would expect with the biggest in this laptop being the constant crashing of the graphics card. (I was able to drastically reduce the crashing after a system refresh). The display is nice but not outstanding. Should have been a bit more brighter as well. Overall a great laptop and I am glad got it.

I give this product 0 stars. Impossible to understand the most minimal directions, online/phone help nonexistent, stiff, uncomfortable space bar... I can go on and on about what a lousy product this is. Returned it within two hours of purchase. I had to give it one star - it deserves NONE!!!

So I purchased a dell 7000 13.3 i7 256 which was great but had very prolonged boot time and I tested it more than hundred times and also in store on the i5 version of it. After comparing that to Yoga 700 and this Acer R5 471T, I came to a conclusion that this is the fastest. Three things: 1 - Store versions have Kingstone SSD which is not the case with what they sell as is Liteon. I tested speeds and it was good but close to Samsung 840 or 850 in terms of read and but not close with write speeds. Unfortunately store versions are locked and BestBuy folks were unable to unlock to check speeds on their version. 2 - Keyboard in the dell 7000 I had before was backlit and turning on with any key stroke at anytime. Mine as well as store versions had to be turned on with Fn and F10 or F9. When asked Acer technical support they said it shouldn't be like that and I have to replace it but again noted store ones are also the same. I hope a bios update will fix the problem. 3 - When plugging in or out the power cable it makes and static sound in my acer and again Acer technical support said it has to be replaced but noted also store versions (both i5 and i7) do the same. Overall as long as these above issues will not harm in long run I'm very pleased. Just for sake of completion, I compared the two i5/256 and i7/512 versions in store and they were exactly same in terms of boot time probably most of the times even the i5 faster. I know it depends on many things but my test reliably tells me that if I don't need a 10% more CPU power or 512 GB SSD, I shouldn't go for the i7/512 edition. I returned it initially due to Acer recs for a replacement and will get the identical i5 again very soon. Of note Yoga 700 14' was good but screen was dimmer. Also boot time was not anywhere close to Acer although still very good and much better than the Dell 7000 13.3. Wireless is Qualcomm with connection speed of 866.7 and amazingly fast. Dell was intel 3165 with max connection speed 433. Battery was very good and I don't think no one can tell one is better or worse. Probably HP Spectre 360 was the best but I didn't spend enough time to investigate the differences. The HP was also very fast and overall as good if not better than Acer but much pricier which doesn't make sense for minimal differences except for light weight if people interested. One good thing is that compared to Dell in general, a large portion of SSD space is not dedicated for factory OS recovery partition which is at least 10 GB. Other thing is that USB 3.1 is version 1 which is 5 GB/S compared to version 2 which is 10 GB/S. Weight was not really at all an issue although swayed me away initially but after a week of use I was not at all bothered. Overall very much satisfied with this product and with the hope that bios upgrades will resolve the above 3 issues, I extremely recommend this product to everyone.

    Display Driver Problems

I bought this Acer R5 on 11/23/15. It loaded up fine, but I would occasionally get an error: Graphics display has stopped working. I installed the lasted Windows 10 updates, the lasted Intel 520 HD video driver, then updated the bios from V1.03 to V1.05. This appears to have fixed the problem. The laptop has great performance with the SSD. The screen and keyboard are fine. The touchpad is a little lacking. If you are willing to do a little homework to get the software updated, it will make you a good machine.

There is a screenshot of the problem my computer had within minutes of ownership. The internet would crash every couple of minutes under light use. Needless to say, it was promptly returned. Bought the Microsoft Surface Book in its place.

This computer is an awesome buy for what you're getting. If it's within your budget, don't bother to get anything else. The solid state drive alone is worth the price. I have never seen Windows boot up so fast as I have on this. The amount of memory you get is great, too, and the tablet option, touch screen, etc., are fantastic. This is my second Acer and I never had any problems with my first.

I had originally glazed over the Acer's as I started my search for a good, budget laptop. From what I had basically been told: "Acer gets the parts that ASUS doesn't want." I ended up buying a Dell Inspiron 7352 when it was on sale last month. Within 3 weeks I had motherboard issues and had to take it back in to Best Buy. While talking with the Geek Squad member he highly recommended that I consider the Acer for my price point of <$700.00. I was impressed that for the same price as the Dell, I was getting a 1080p screen, 6th gen I5, and a 256gb SSD. I ended up taking the Acer home and was thoroughly impressed with how well it performs. Startup is snappy, the screen is great, and the build quality is solid. The two complaints that I have so far: the keyboard is cramped, especially for being on a 14" platform I would have expected a little more space between the keys. The trackpad makes an extra "clicky" sound while I use the tap-to-click feature, I confirmed with Acer that this is something wrong with the trackpad and that I should bring it in to get it fixed. Other than that, I'm happy with my purchase and I think it's a great laptop for the money.

Great Windows 10 laptop, especially so at the Best Buy price of $650. For me, it replaced a slow Windows 8 laptop with a 5400 rpm hard drive. This one flies in comparison with it's SSD and also comes with a beautiful screen that makes it a pleasure to work with. It's also a lightweight laptop that can easily be carried around. Windows 10 is so much better than Windows 8.1 too. This laptop is the way to go...highly recommended.

After going through the OOBE, system boots up super fast, thanks to the SSD. Love the $50 GC with MSFT store, you can even buy music and movies with it. But, bare in mind, you have about 90 days to spend the amount. My daughter bought the same unit a few weeks back, even her's had the $50 GC, though she didn't think that her's had it, until she clicked a the gift box icon on her desktop. Love how the audio actually reverses when you are in the display mode. Great for watching movies on the display mode. This is especially noticeable especially in action movies and dialogues when two people are talking to each other [Thank you MSFT for the GC]. I've tried a few convertibles out there, and most doesn't have this feature, even systems that cost 2x the price of Acer R14. [Strange] Love the metal chassis, and the soft touch feel on the bottom of the notebook. Overall, love it... I did read the Intel driver issue that was common across HP, Dell, and other brands also. I did come across the issue a couple times when I was using edge and scribbling funny scribbles. But, issue disappeared after I've updated the Intel Driver through Acer Care Center. The issue is mostly an annoyance. But, glad that the driver update was there within Acer Care Center.

Display driver crash issue still unresolved

I bought this laptop in December. It has got all the good features that one can think of amazingly fast SSD, USB Type C/3.0/2.0, HDMI, Back lit keyboard, 360* convertible, Full HD touch screen, latest Intel skylake i5/i7, awesome sound, decent battery life. Only cons I can think of are, weirdly small power plug that doesn't seem durable (they should have used Type C for charging) and keyboard keys size (you can get used key size after some time though). I am going to give just one star because, Acer's after sale services and customer care are pathetic. Display driver issue has been reported on multiple laptops from Surface Pro 4 to hp elite to Acer aspire R14 from day one and it is actually issue with either Windows 10 or with Intel's display driver. After lot of people complaining and returning their new machines, intel has fixed the issue and released the driver at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- However, Acer like many other OEMs modifies processor configuration such that intel driver can not be applied to this machine. Acer need to get driver from intel, and change it so that it can be applied to this system. Microsoft already did that to fix it on Surface Pro 4 in December itself. Acer support does not give any timeline to fix the issue and we are stuck with this annoying issue. If you go to Acer's driver download page at http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers, you can see that Acer hasn't updated any driver since October. All driver were last updated on 2015/10/21

This Acer laptop is the convergence of virtually everything I wanted in a laptop: Core i5 processor, min. 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14.0" Full HD 1080p screen, and functions as a 2-in-1 laptop with four different display modes. Out of the box, my picture was tinged red so I brought up display controls and calibrated the unit. It's noticeably better. As soon as I can, I'll throw another 8GB of RAM into it. As well as it runs now, the added RAM with make the system sing!

After my previous laptop died, I needed an immediate replacement and gifted myself this Acer on Black Friday. This model was my first experience with a touch screen (which I'm still getting used to almost 6 months later) along with a SSD. I'll never buy another laptop without a SSD. Intel i-5 processor (6th gen) is lightning quick for an assortment of job-related activities (audio and video production) and personal use (video streaming - primarily NHL Hockey). Love the battery life and vivid display...only drawback is the lack of a backlit keyboard. Compact and lightweight compared to all laptops I've owned previously. Absolutely love this purchase!!!

This is an excellent laptop hands-down for its price to quality ratio. You get FullHD, 256 GB ssd, 4.2 pound weight, backlit keyboard, touch screen, 6th generation i5 for less than 700. Just two things to notice for advanced users. If you are looking to upgrade SSD remember this has SSD in form factor M.2 Its not the usual SATA ssd. And secondly, Ubuntu 14.04 did not detect the WiFi adapter. These are the two specific cons I found yet.

This is my first Acer product. I had Lenovo T450s at work and owned Lenovo T-series before so this is quite a switch. I'm a professional programmer/analyst. I tried to match specs Acer R14 with T450s at work (512 SSD, 8GB, i7). I'm impressed with the speed on R14 plus other entertainment features that are appropriate and fun for a home laptop. The keyboard feels thin and flimsy as compared to Lenovo well-known keyboard but it's probably the matter of time to get used to. It is not so bad though. All in all, I like my new laptop. I'd rate 4 out of 5 I've been using for a month. I cannot rate on durability again as compared to my last Lenovo T61 which lasted 7 years and counting.

There is no other laptop on the market that can match this for price and value: SSD drive, USB 3.0, HDMI out, the list goes on. I know some would prefer a more mainstream brand like Dell or Lenovo, but planning on paying $300 - $400 more for the same specs. This thing is fast, 15 second bootup time.

I did my research looking for a good convertible laptop at a good price and this was rated well on a couple sites so I headed to the store to experience it. Although the sales associate tried to recommend a much more expensive Apple product, which I have absolutely no interest in, I insisted on this one and am very happy with my decision! It has all that I need with a large enough screen, light weight, good battery, etc.
