    Decent laptop for the money

The laptop has all the specs I was looking for...really liked the SSD so I don't have to hear the fan. It really does start up in seconds. And performance is pretty good. The non-ideal "issues" are the feel of the mouse trackpad and the keyboard buttons themselves is below average (tappijng the trackpad for sure). The touchscreen part works great. It also frequently pauses on webpages telling me a video driver has failed and had to reload. I am currently experiencing having Geek Squad have this laptop for 3+ weeks. I bought it just around Christmas, and did not try playing music or movies until after 2 weeks later. The sound popped and cracked. Turns out it was not the speakers, as the issue existed plugging headphones in. So, please check the sound at good volume thoroughly immediately. I struggle answering if I'd recommend this to a friend (I'd say maybe), so had to choose "no"

This is my first Acer and I couldn't have made a better choice. This little Acer 14 inch has everything. The laptop is fast, has one beautiful screen, and works like charm with whatever program I work with. This laptop is worth the price and more. Never expected it to be this good. Buy it and you won't be disappointed!!

    Excellent , full featured laptop

This laptop is very fast and well built. This laptop had much better specs for the price than other laptops of similar size - SSD 256GB storage, 8GB RAM, Full HD screen. Very quiet running laptop and quick access with the solid state drive. Not too large to carry around, but large enough for viewing videos, surfing, etc.

The computer itself works great. The specs are really good for the price! Honestly I had high hopes for this laptop. Pros: Fortunately, performance-wise, it's been good so far. It runs smoothly, start-up is fast, and everything seems to be working (so far..) The display error that quite a few people were getting from this laptop hasn't shown up yet so it may have been fixed. Cons: The trackpad is god awful. SUPER unresponsive. I swear it's taking so much more effort to move around and scroll than any of my previous laptops... I seriously considered returning it because of how shoddy it is, no joke. (fortunately its touch screen so i'll probably be using mostly that) Also, the speakers are placed on the bottom of the laptop. Why?? It just makes all the sound feel muted! That's terrible design! There is quite a lot of bloatware as well but that's mostly just annoying. It's a great functioning laptop but I honestly don't know if I could really recommend this machine to anybody.. The track pad and speaker placement are actually terrible.

    First 2 in 1 computer

Got this particular computer because of the solid state drive, so I'm expecting it to last. I like the touchscreen, and the keyboard is comfortable. One thing I'm concerned about is the connection for the power cord...it seems very wimpy, and I feel like it won't be long before I have to take it in for repair. Otherwise, so far so good.

This laptop is a great buy for the price. I was looking for an affordable machine and store associate recommended this machine. It is a fast machine and costs far less than the machines with equivalent configuration. It comes with a lot of bloatware, but it is easy to uninstall.

This has everything I needed in a laptop. Had to return the first one because of screen bleed, but other than that it is super speedy, has a good keyboard and screen, and a good number of ports.

Can't go wrong here. Sturdy design, fast, has gotten great reviews at tech blogs, great value. Only thing, tons of bloatware. I suggest the following: update the apps through Windows Store first, then uninstall all bloat. If you do it in the other order it re-installs some things. Only after you've uninstalled the unnecessary stuff should you set it up the way you want. It blazes.

    Fast, but low quality display.

It took me about a week of research for a laptop before I landed on this one. The specs were excellent for what I wanted and the price at the time was $650 so it felt like a great deal. Now, the laptop is fast and runs everything I threw at it. I used multiple tabs on Chrome and used Word often. I even played games with no issues. But the problems with it is that the trackpad does a very poor job at working when you want it to. It doesn't pick up multiple finger taps well. The biggest issue for me is the display. It is 1080p but the screen itself has this weird almost wet look to it which makes it look very cheap. I checked out the display model in the store and it had the same issue. The screen just wasn't sharp and clear for the price. I guess that's how they managed to keep the laptop at a low price with the specs. Anyway, I returned the laptop because I felt like paying $700 with tax and getting a horrible screen was not worth it.

    Better for the price

I really liked this laptop when I purchased it about 6 weeks ago. The resolution is great and the touch screen was a bonus. However, after about 4 weeks it would stop reading anything plugged into the USB ports. I use a USB laptop mouse most of the time but it has become difficult because it stops working often. My biggest issue is using it after it was sleep mode. I wake it up and see a lot of dots on the screen as if a dozen fingers are trying to use the touch screen. I can just watch as the dots are randomly popping up all over the screen causing tabs to open/close, programs to run, and rendering my touchpad and mouse useless. The problem is resolved when I restart the laptop but it was not a one time incident. I would not recommend this for $700.

Review update after a few months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So I've had this for a few months now and I think this was the best value in a computer I've ever had. The SSD drive and 8GB of ram make it really quick and no complaints from me about the speed for normal use. This isn't for heavy duty 4K editing or advanced autocad. (For that I have a crazy powerful desktop). My only complaints are....the screen brightness, especially around the edges isn't too great, I don't like the small male end of the power adaptor, it makes me a little nervous that it is easy to damage/break the computer, and when I hit the "start menue" I feel their is a little delay(hopefully next Windows update will solve that issue)

    Very good value

This is a great laptop that is primarily a laptop, but also works as a tablet. It is a great value and performs very well. With no internal hard drive, the battery lasts a long time and it doesn't heat up much at all. It has 3 USB ports, SD card reader, HDMI, and touch screen for a very reasonable price. After using one of these, I purchased a second one for my small business and I will likely be getting more in the near future. It is fast to boot up and handles all of the daily tasks without slowing down. I use this laptop for basic graphic design in Inkscape and it works very well. I like the larger screen size so I don't struggle to see the screen. I also have it hooked up to a 30" TV monitor through the HDMI and the processor easily handles running Netflix on the large monitor while computing on the laptop screen. I do have frequent issues with the display driver crashing (on both of my Acer R14 laptops), but this is primarily when using the new Edge browser and it recovers within 1 second every time. It is a minor annoyance and I am optimistic that a driver update will eventually fix this issue. If you Google it, Acer is not the only company to have this problem. The backlit keyboard is strange because it doesn't always stay on. You need to hit FN F10 and then it stays on for as long as you are typing during that session. The next night, you will need to turn it back on again. I would have gladly spent over $1,000 to get a nice laptop, but this laptop has the same features for less money. It is lightweight compared to most true laptops, but it performs like a laptop should. If you want a primary laptop that also works as a tablet in a pinch, this is a great choice. I also like the price point for a business laptop because I don't want something too fancy in case it is dropped or stolen.

    Problems

I actually had to return 2 of these. The first one worked fine for about 2 weeks and then there was no control over the cursor. It would move all over the screen without touching the mouse or touch screen and continually open new windows without any prompting. Took that one back and got new replacement (same model etc.) Worked fine for 9 days then the screen would go black for 30 minutes at a time, sometimes longer. At that point when I turned it on I would get yellow dots of light flashing all over the screen. At his point I' m done with Acer.

    Excellent Laptop, but BLOATWARE

This is one of the best laptop deals there is for a gen6 i5 processor, 8 gigs ram, and a 256gb SSD. Unfortunately, this laptop is loaded with so much bloatware it performs average out of the box. I had to do a ‘Clean Install’ – off of a USB (‘Reset PC’ didn’t work, just installed the same bloatware). After that, it went from 4GB of ram, down to 1 – and many other performance improvements.

    Display Driver error message

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do your research on this problem before you purchase a lap top or any device that has the Intel HD Graphics 520. This driver is apparently not compatible with Windows 10. I keep getting the same error message which started the last night after I bought this product brand new from Best Buy yesterday. Called Acer tech support who had me uninstall the Intel HD Graphics 520 and reboot which reinstalled it. Was told by Acer tech support that this should fix the issue. Well, it did not. The same error message started popping up again repeatedly regardless of what I was doing on the web. Then a new error message about the 520 graphics started popping up also. Called Acer tech support again and was told to reset the laptop to original factory settings and if that doesn't fix the problem to return it, as they don't know why it is doing this. Super bummed as I thought I finally found the perfect laptop but I guess not. Not sure why some have this problem and some not. Did some research about the display error online and it seems many are having the same issue and not just with Acer products. It is happening with HP, Acer, Lenovo and even Windows Surface Pro 4. They are posting on the windows site that it's a software issue with Windows 8.1 and 10 that causes it to not be compatible with some hardware drivers. Very disappointed and leery to even consider a new device with anything other than Windows 7. :(

I so wanted to like and keep this laptop. I was getting repeated pop up alerts that the intel display driver had stopped responding .( I did update driver, but kept getting message) . I can only guess there is a glitch between intel display drivers and windows 10. Laptop was returned because of that.

Powerful, light and user friendly. Backlit keyboard is nice. Scroll pad and keypad are not great but work. Keys are chiclets and scroll pad is difficult to use. Touchscreen is very good however. Would recommend using touchscreen as much as possible. Conversion from laptop to tablet is seamless and has had no issues in the last 4 months.
