Customers are enthusiastic about the Chromebook 516 GE's large, crisp screen, comfortable keyboard, and strong performance. Many appreciate its ease of use and long battery life, along with its reasonable price. The laptop's suitability for gaming and its lightweight design are also frequently praised. A small number of users expressed a preference for more RAM.

A Bit Bulky and Temperamental Bluetooth

This was going to be my first Chromebook. I loved the specs and found that there was a lot to like about it. However, it was a bit too large (the 16" screen was nice, but just too big) as I found myself wanting a Chromebook that was more mobile. Also to note is that this Chromebook had an issue connecting with my wireless mouse. I was able to connect to it, but every time I would switch from my main PC to this Chromebook, the mouse would either not connect or take 10-15 seconds to be "read" by the bluetooth. I chalked this up as a Chromebook "thing" but realized with the Chromebook I replaced this with (Acer Flip 714) that it was possibly an issue with the 516 GE (either mine in particular or the hardware). Speaking of the 714, it has a 14" screen and many of the same features as the 516 GE. I find them both to be ultra snappy and good for what my use case is for them - office computing, web browsing/web apps, and multimedia playing. I think that there is a strong use case for this Chromebook for many buyers who are okay with the 16" screen. Assuming the bluetooth issue is isolated, I wouldn't hesitate to otherwise recommend it.

    A Powerful Yet Disappointing Performance

Very disappointing Octane 2.0 benchmark score: 83000 MOL. Oh sure, that's HUGE, but my fiancee has an Acer Spin 714 that also has a 12th gen. -- but less powerful -- i5 CPU (only 2 performance cores vice 4 in the 516 GE) and it gets almost the same score, yet uses 15w of power vice 28w. The battery life really sucks for a ChromeBook. It has a great display!

Purchased new for my kids birthday. Worked great, looked great up until two days before the return period ended. It stopped working, wouldn’t charge, wouldn’t turn on. Turned into a paperweight. Best Buy honored their return policy on the last day it was able to be returned. I’ve never had an issue with Acer chromebooks but unfortunately this one was a dud. 2 Stars for the short time it worked and Best Buy taking it back. Really glad it happened now and not after the return policy or warranty were up.

I like the Chromebook for everything but the battery. The battery indicator is all over the place, therefore I am never sure of how much battery time is left. I don’t get anywhere near the time advertised.

Hope you don't need to RMA your Acer notebook

I liked the Chromebook while it lasted. About a week after receiving it, it started hard powering off on its own. I thought maybe it might be a software glitch so I waited hoping it would be fixed eventually with a software update. Unfortunately it got worse until it won't power on anymore. The reason why I am giving it 1 star review is because Acer's RMA service is terrible. 1. You have to pay for shipping to send the notebook back to Acer for repairs. I never had to pay for shipping with Asus or Dell. Given the size of this notebook, it is quite expensive. 2. When submitting an RMA online, I was pretty sure it mentioned that an agent would respond after reviewing the incident but all I got was a canned email. 3. The email from Acer tells you how you should package the laptop but it doesn't give much details on how to label the package so that it doesn't get lost once received like other companies do. My laptop is in route and I don't get any surprises

I've tried alot of Chromebooks over the years and this is the best overall. I'm not a gamer, but love that the screen, the backlit keyboard, and the fast processor combine for a great experience. ChromeOS has also developed to the point I no longer need a Windows computer for 95% of tasks.

      Dear Hero,
Chromebooks are different from Windows laptop products in that they are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and documents living in the cloud. Because of this they don’t have much for on board storage but they also are not expensive either. Chromebooks run the Chrome operating system and runs apps like an Android phone or tablet so you cannot download and install applications or .exe files. If you need to use third party software applications that must be installed on the computer, a Chromebook is likely not for you, where a Windows laptop would suit you better.
If you need help or have questions regarding your Chromebook please feel free to contact Acer support at 866-695-2237. They are available 24/7 for in-warranty products and will be happy to help you.

This Chromebook is so limited by ChromeOS that it is actually quite astounding. For the price you’re paying it would make sense to have a bit more functionality. Also, for a device aimed at streaming, I felt it did not need to be so large. The build felt premium and I could see someone who really enjoys ChromeOS and giant laptops having no major gripes. I, personally, would buy a smaller and cheaper Chromebook if I ever bought a Chromebook again.
