I'm writing this in the few moments I can get this thing to hold a connection to my wifi (which is ~100mbps and perfectly stable on all my other devices) and without the use of the touchpad, which stopped working within the first hour of using this laptop. I have looked online for solutions to both of these problems with zero helpful results as well, so I'm currently waiting for the store to open so I can return it; hopefully I just got a defective one and they aren't all this bad. A couple positive things I will say about it is that the touch screen works very well, and the keyboard is nice.

This laptop is a piece of glass. It fell from about a foot off the floor and the screen completely cracked and had to be replaced (for nearly the cost of the entire computer new). Also, Chrome OS is a joke. I thought I was being clever in getting it since I didn't need it for anything super complicated and I have an Android phone. Nothing works on this. Most recently, the Office apps are no longer compatible and that eliminates about half of what I wanted to do with the computer. AND, there's absolutely no trade in value for these computers.

    Returned it for being glitchy

Seemed great at the outset and the simplicity of Chrome OS is kind of nice. Still, once I switched over to Windows 11 I was much happier being able to use all of the applications that I coudn't with Chrome OS (VPN, torrent, password manager, audacity, etc etc). At any rate, I probably would have dealt with it but after about a month this thing got really glitchy any time I moved the screen. The mouse would go all over the place and the screen would cut out or sections of it would turn into a green square and nothing would work until I rebooted. This would happen pretty much every time I used it. Finally returned it and got a Lenovo with an i7 and Windows 11. I'm MUCH happier now.

Out of the Box the 14" touch screen Acer spin 514 chromebook is lightweight for a laptop, but slightly heavy and.clunky as a tablet. Powering up the touch screen was bright and responsive it's easy to fold down as a tablet or into tent mode with hinges that are sturdy. When watching a movie or playing games the graphics were crisp and clear. The Ryzen 3 processor worked great with several apps and tabs running at the same time the sound is good even though the speakers are downward facing, under the computer. The keyboard has backlighting which is almost unnoticeable but otherwise it is comfort. The battery isn't as long as stated i got a little over 4 with continuous use. Overall the Acer is a good medium priced chromebook that I'd recommend for surfing, gaming or school and work

This Chromebook that was purported to have originally cost $499.00, is significantly slower than my 4 year old ASUS Chromebook that cast $120.00. I am very disappointed.

This Acer chromebook combines superb performance with solid build quality and excellent battery life. We have a family of heavy Chromebook users and over the past two weeks they’ve been sharing this device for a wide range of tasks from basic homework to web browsing to 3D modelling and writing this review. In all cases the device has performed flawlessly and with performance which often rivals mid-range Intel based laptops. Pros - High quality construction and solid feel - Sharp touch screen with above average color reproduction and contrast ratio - Full size keyboard with excellent feel and large trackpad - Decent built in speakers - Multi-day battery life for moderate use – expect about 4-5 hours of continuous use from a charge - Excellent performance for everything from games to MS Office apps and even 3D modelling (Tinker CAD). - Full set of ports including two USB-A, two USB-C, and even a microSD slot. - Runs cool. - Ultra fast WIFI performance (I got > 400 Mb/s up and down). Cons - Limited software library (remember that by design you cannot download and install Windows apps on a Chromebook) - Typical Chrome related bugs such as apps not installing and printers not being detected. Again, these issues are problems with the Chromebook platform and not with this device. Running Office web apps is easy and fast and documents are seamlessly available across other devices via OneDrive. While these are not the full featured desktop Windows apps, they are quite powerful and flexible and do maintain full compatibility with the desktop versions. In order to really stress test the device, we loaded up the Tinker CAD 3D modelling system. A cube was placed and duplicated over 3,000 times, a hole was extracted from the shapes and gradients applied. In all cases the results rendered within a few seconds and ran at least as quickly that a mid-range Windows laptop running Chrome – in some cases much faster. Chromebooks are not a perfect replacement for a desktop OS, but for web based apps, browsing, email, schoolwork, and other online-centric tasks they provide a great, lightweight alternative. If you’re somebody for whom a Chromebook is a good fit, or if you’re already a Chrome fan, this device is easy to recommend as a high quality and powerful computing companion.
