I contemplated going to another operating system machine after an AUE fiasco. Anyone buying a Chromebook for the first time should know that Chromebooks have a date that updates will no longer be loaded. You can still use it after the expiration, but security issues might come up. Buyer beware. But besides my AUE problem, my other Acer Chromebook was great. So naturally I wanted another with a fair AUE date for the price. This was a great deal I thought. Well one week in and this machine works worse than the one I'm about to stop using. I have a lot of tabs open on my previous Acer Chromebook and each of them loads and works fine. After 10 tabs, less than what my previous machine has open, this new Acer starts FREAKING OUT. I can't even barely close those tabs to get it to work. It is incredibly slow. I don't have other things going on with my internet service nor do I have any additional apps running in the background, I don't use this for more than web surfing, web based email checking, and an occasional (also web based) word processing. So nothing complex that this thing would not operate smoothly. Even did all the updates and it still performs badly. It's too bad because of the price, the AUE date, and how pretty it looks. Runs kindof hotter than I'd like too. After one hour it has to be off my lap it's so hot. Based on if the problem can be resolved easily, might be making a return.

I really want to like this chromebook but im a bit disappointed. After 4 months it began to freeze and its a bot too heavy for a chromebook. It gets really hot as well.

I have been wanting an android tablet or a Chromebook for a while. Though I am primarily a PC Windows guy as an avid gamer, for anything non gaming I felt like a Chromebook could be right for me. And I have to say I have not been disappointed at all. First I have to mention how insanely easy set up was. Within minutes I was streaming videos, testing the video capabilities of this machine. If you can handle creating a gmail account, I think you can handle the initial setup and basic operations of this computer. Even with so many things being just slightly different from my PC, I was able to pick up what I needed to know pretty quickly with very little online assistance. So if you are worried about learning a new system, I wouldn’t stress to much. The video is great. It offers full HD with beautiful, crisp colors. Actually it goes a bit beyond that. Full HD is 1920x1080 resolution and this thing can go to 2194x1234. It’s not the brightest screen I have ever seen and it seems a bit more reflective than some. This can be an issue if you are near sunlight. Even inside near a bright window. But other than that, video quality is excellent. Audio is less impressive, but that is typical on portable computers like this. My wireless headphones hooked right up though easily enough for when I need something a little more dynamic sounding. I need to mention the feel of this thing. It does seem a bit on the heavy side, but wow does it feel solid. The casing is impressive. The hinges look and feel very solid and well built. The keyboard is great too. It is responsive, smooth and quiet. I actually prefer the feel of the more clickity clack of mechanical keyboards on my gaming PC. But for something to use on the couch, in the evening when I’m sharing a close space with my girlfriend, this style is perfect. The touch screen is excellent too, very responsive. Although on the highest resolution settings it’s a little tricky to navigate. It can be difficult to hit the right spot on the screen sometimes. As such I dial the setting back a bit if I’m doing something that requires more interaction with the screen. This battery has impressed me. As someone who was just using it for an hour or two in the evenings I think I went well over a week before I had to charge it back up. It doesn’t seem to get that hot and the fans are fairly quiet. All good on this front :) Flipping the screen over and using it more as a tablet is a bit bulky feeling. Not the biggest fan of that, but it does work quit well. So if the weight doesn’t bother you holding it like that, I think its great. I’ll probably use it pretty much just as a laptop style, but I did find I liked that configuration when I was laying on the couch with my knees bent with my head propped up on a couple pillows. As far as running my android apps it seems pretty hit and miss. A lot are supported and work great, but I have also run into many that don’t work. Especially my apps for things like lights, my front door lock, and my smart speaker. But over all I think about 2/3s of the apps I have tried to move off my phone have worked. Gaming is still a work in progress on these things, but I did try some android games and they ran beautifully. My girlfriend plays Townville and has a massive city from 2 years of playing and it ran silky smooth. Hooking up my wireless headphones and printers were a snap. All in all I am very impressed with this device. From being solidly built to its quality performance. If you are looking for a portable computer to use for surfing the web, social media, android app based games (keep in mind not ALL will work), email, word processing and other basic activities this is a great choice. Not a good choice If you are looking to do some serious gaming or video editing or anything that typically needs a lot of RAM to run smooth. And in that context, I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.
