Customers commend the Chromebook Spin 713's impressive screen, long battery life, and lightweight design, finding it easy to use. However, some users reported issues with the speakers, noting subpar sound quality and occasional noise. A few also mentioned concerns about fan noise and the trackpad's performance. While some found the price high, others felt it was justified by the device's features.

This is probably a good college or beginners' laptop, but we are terribly disappointed with it. My wife's job keeps her on the road for 24-33 hours a week. She has 4 Garmins. Updates with Garmin are wireless on the new models and chromebook is not compatible. No excuse but reasons, I'm 80 she's 70. We aren't the quickest with computers. No one told us during our purchase that chrome books aren't compatible with the common systems. We spent a total with accessories almost $1000.00 and it's only good for one thing in our home. It's for sale at a great loss.

I think I received a defective unit. I purchased this chromebook less than a month ago. about a week ago the fans started coming on randomly at full blast multiple times for no apparent reason. The chromebook could be just sitting idle with no tabs open or anything and the fan kicks on full blast randomly. Of course this starts happening a week after bestbuy's return policy.

The Best Chromebook You Can Buy

This is the best chromebook at this range that you can buy. The previous generation was great as well and the 11th generation Intel processor takes it up a notch. The performance is awesome. It is fast with a great, great, battery life. If you are into programming, you will not be disappointed. If you are a regular user, this will fulfill all your wishes in every direction, and then some. The speakers are the only headscratcher, just like the previous generation. The display is great. The 3:2 ratio makes it look bigger and the colors are good and true. The keyboard is fulfilling in its wonderful feedback. The chromebook app store has been improving over the years so if you are newbie please don't get deterred at using a new OS as this is quite seamless. The security is good and 99% of times you will not even have to spend extra to get a dedicated anti-virus. Buy this. You will not be disappointed.

Chromebook Mashup of Premium and Classroom Specs

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a relatively compact 13.5" screened chromebook. This makes it a laptop that runs Chrome as the OS. And "laptop" it is as this comes with a 10th-gen Core i5 processor. So a decent amount of computing power. The screen resolution is also surprisingly high at 2K instead of the usual 1080p fare. Weight-wise, this is about 3lbs which puts it on similar footing to thin and light non-Chromebook laptops. This unit came in a muted grey, nothing too fancy or standout - it looks like what one would expect to see filling desks in a classroom. The big surprise here is that the screen tilts a full 180 so you can set it up as a tent to watch video on the slightly sharper 2K screen or use it as a tablet with the touchscreen. Port-wise you've got two USB-C, HDMI, a regular USB, and micro SD. You'll charge via USB-C which is great as that's one less proprietary power cord to carry. Though that does consume a port though if you really need more, a USB-C hub will break out a lot of things. It's nice having the HDMI as it's own port. That increases the laptop's thickness but I can see that being useful as by the end of my evaluation, I'd concluded this is really targeted at the school market, maybe high school or college lab type. For something more home based, I'd ditch the HDMI in favor of a thinner and lighter laptop. One can just cast to a TV at home if needed. The keyboard is a bit on the small side, as one would expect for what's essentially a 13" laptop. The major expectation from a chromebook is performance and battery life. Especially when using a full fledged laptop processor. In this regard, the Spin 713 delivers. Having numerous chrome tabs open including a couple large Sheets and playing HD video did nothing to slow this down. Battery life was also amazing in my weekend test. While not as brutal with maxing out tabs and work, the chromebok managed 9 hours and 23 minutes near full brighness. Battery life could be a bit more or less than that as I was not continuously using it for the full period though I did leave it playing video when I stepped away to grab a bite to eat or run other errands. Play a few videos, and you start to notice that while this has performance, it's lacking in the sound department. Don't get me wrong, the speakers get plenty loud but the sound quality isn't there. It feels like there's some body or fullness missing. While I was tempted to be a bit disappointed as it detracts from the idea of this as a media machine with it's 2K screen, most of my streaming services don't actually have 2K as an option. So it felt like I wasn't getting the full benefit of the screen. Further more, the aspect ratio here isn't a direct match to 1080p so one ends up with letterboxing. I guess it's nice if you're mostly watching 4K content that's rescaled for the 2K screen, but honestly, I'm typically maxing out at 1080p. The screen size doesn't quite encourage sitting back to consume 4K content. It felt like there was a minor advantage using this for spreadsheets or word documents, but I'm not really sure. The other thing one notices in this process is the weight. At 3lbs, yes, this is relatively light but it's still a bit on the heavy side for a tablet. And it's even stranger given that this is a chromebook. The processor and screen makes it seem high end but the weight and speakers are mediocre. The boring grey finish doesn't help dispell that either. Still, the touchcreen was responsive and worked well and even in laptop mode, I found myself reaching to touch the screen in some cases rather than using the touchpad. Typing was a bit cramped. I think Acer could have improved this by having the keyboard have essentially no "bezel" and maybe reducing the trackpad height. The trackpad was great, no issues, but seemingly another area where this Chromebook was a bit more premium than the whole package would let you believe. I did a couple video calls on the chromebook as well. For this purpose, the speakers sounded fine. No difference than my other laptops. The mic seemed to work well, again on par with my other devices though not better than my dedicated USB mic. Camera quality seemed to be not as great. The webcam is 720p, which is the same as on my regular laptop but the video here seemed a bit lower resolution. I hesitate to blame it on anything. Maybe it's the 2K screen as I'm used to calls on 1080p screens. The combination of aspect ratio mismatch and the higher res screen could be showcasing webcam shortcomings that I've not been noticing elsewhere. In summary, this is a pretty decent, albiet a bit on the heavy side, chromebook. The specs, performance, screen, and battery make it seem like a premium device but from the looks and use, it's more on the normal bland clamshell chromebook side of things. It definitely has a lot of performance, so will be a good investment for one looking for something to last 3-5 years or more, but this really gives the vibe that it's more at home in a classroom or some specialized purpose. The processor, screen, and battery seems a bit overkill for a device that I'll toss around at home to use recreationally when I want something with a bit more screen real estate than my phone. The build is quite solid so one can feel free to literally toss it around.

I had the original Chromebook (before it was released to the public) years ago and I have to say the OS has come a long way! What's nice with a Chromebook is that majority of your applications are based with google. So you are opening documents and files through google docs, etc. The OS is really something and I recommend looking into it before making a big decision if your getting this device for school or work. I also have to say that I never had a premium Chromebook so this ACER is technically a first for me in that retrospect. This device feels much better than the cheaper Chromebooks out there. So if you use Chrome OS heavily you may want to pick up a premium laptop such as this one. The 11th gen intel i5 paired with 8gb of ram on Chrome OS really make the Chrome OS seamless and powerful. Most of the device options are comparable to a premium laptop with Windows like a slim design, light weight, light up keyboard, USB C ports, 2k screen, and 360 degree hinges to flip your screen like a tablet. But what this device has which no other laptop has is a 4:3 screen. I haven't seen a 4:3 screen since prior to 2011. Its great for viewing webpages and when you are typing documents. According to ACER you can see 18% more on a webpage compared to the current standard 16:9 screen. I like it as everything seems to load correctly but your just viewing it on more of a square screen rather than a rectangle.

Very nice chromebook. Trackpad is the best I've used and the keyboard has a good touch. Nice selection of ports, which many others in this price range did not have. Touchscreen works well too. Fantastic bright screen. Like most chromebooks, the speakers aren't so great but it has a headphone jack.

After using this product, I hate to say I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. Overall, I do like this laptop. It has a sleek look, great feel to the keys and a nice bright screen. It loads quickly and it has a substantial amount of memory and storage. Much more than most chromebooks on the market. It is very light and portable, it fits great in a backpack and you can barely tell its there. It has a USB-c charger which was convenient because I have another chromebook in my house that uses the same type. But the battery life is disappointing. On a full charge, it only lasts 1-2 hours of basic use such as online browsing, email checking and writing word documents.

Exactly What I Needed and More

When I make large electronics or computer purchases, I tend to spend a bit more to get something that's relatively future-proof, but when I found myself in the need of a laptop last year, economics demanded that I purchase something a bit more reasonably priced. After researching options for a while, I landed on this Chromebook and after a year of use, I can say I'm quite happy with the decision. While Chromebooks don't offer all the bells and whistles of a modern laptop designed for gaming or content creation, this particular device has proven to be a robust and versatile machine that has done everything I've required of it and surprised me by taking on a few extra roles I asked it to play. The ability to switch between laptop and tablet functions on the fly is something I never would have assumed I needed, but I can't imagine going back now. It has a reasonable number or ports for connecting accessories and Bluetooth connectivity has been seamless. Ultimately, the only thing this lacks is the ability to run PC software, but I knew this going in and decided it was a tradeoff I was willing to make to save money. On the rare occasion when I've really needed to access a non-compatible program, Chrome Remote Desktop has allowed me to log into my home PC. Overall, I can highly recommend this Chromebook for anyone looking for a mid-priced laptop with some nice bells and whistles.

In less than 3 weeks I am not happy with the purchase. * New and its already frozen up multiple times and needed a hard reboot. * The fans NEVER shut off and it sounds like a drill, very loud. I would not mind the loud fan if the machine was as good as advertised. * Battery life, seems to be around 4-6 hours. I use this machine to browse, I have maybe 4 tabs open. Some streaming video but not non-stop. * When I fully charge it says "13 hours" If I sit here with one cup of coffee the time will change from 13, 6, 8, 2, 10.... This is with NO tabs open. The battery life tab just goes crazy. My old machine never had this problem, It would say 10 hours and last 10 hours, and the time never jumped around. For 740 dollars with Tax I expected top notch performance. This machine is supposed to shine for web browsing, streaming video and battery life. So far I want to throw it into the ocean. The ONLY good thing I can say is WHEN it works its pretty fast. But my OLD computer is more reliable, slow but it works with no freeze ups and issues. Would I buy it again? No Would I buy this brand again, maybe since my old one was the same brand. Either I got a Lemon or the product is not as good as advertised. I will be attempting to return the machine. * My old 199 dollar machine is more reliable.
