Customers are saying
Customers commend the Chromebook Spin 713's impressive screen, long battery life, and lightweight design, finding it easy to use. However, some users reported issues with the speakers, noting subpar sound quality and occasional noise. A few also mentioned concerns about fan noise and the trackpad's performance. While some found the price high, others felt it was justified by the device's features.

Excellent screen and OS but terrible speakers
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ran this Chromebook through its paces. I've owned many Chromebooks throughout the years so im not going to have unreal expectations. The screen is the selling point with this model. It's amazing! However, the speakers are truly terrible. It was such a poorsticking point for me i ended up retuning it. For the same money and specs i picked up a Windows 11 laptop with a 360 hinge.

Powerhouse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In summary: wow. This laptop is a powerhouse. I've been a user of Chrome OS since its inception, and I've used a lot of different Chromebooks - this one is the best. Bar none. There are a lot of things to love about this laptop, but number 1 has to be the performance. I've attached a screenshot of the Octane benchmark to this review...if you're not familiar with Octane, a score of over 59,000 is INSANE. I've never seen a number higher than 35,000 before. I've had 30 Chrome tabs open and nothing has lagged. I've run Linux applications (Inkscape, LibreOffice, and Steam) with nary a hiccup. Streaming games via Stadia has been smooth as butter. The performance on its own would be enough to entice me to buy this again, but there's more things that make this laptop a cut above other Chromebooks right now. Among those things is the 3:2 aspect ratio of the screen. It's hard to explain just how much of a difference this aspect ratio makes; there's more vertical space for Google Docs & Sheets and more space for websites (which means less scrolling). I don't know that I can go back to a standard 16:9 screen without complaining - it makes that much of a difference. Battery life has also been great. I've spent a full work day without needing to plug in the charger for 5 days now - it's generally around 30-40% when I get back home. I've also noticed that it charges very quickly when plugged in, so this thing will probably even get you through a 12-hour day with a quick charge around hour 8 or 9. The build quality is ok - the laptop feels really solid when open. The hinge doesn't wobble, the keyboard deck doesn't flex, the keyboard feels great to type with, and the trackpad is smooth. There are a few things that are just average though - when closed, there's quite a bit of flex on center of the lid. I definitely wouldn't slide this into a bag without a case for fear or something happening. The trackpad is also a little on the small side - not the biggest deal for me since I normally use a bluetooth mouse, but it's something to be aware of. The speakers are also what I'd consider mediocre; but again, I normally use bluetooth headphones so it's not the biggest deal. Overall, this laptop is worth every penny. Sure, it's not "perfect", but the performance is so outstanding that I can overlook a few minor average points. If you're looking for a Chromebook to work from and you can afford this unit, you won't be disappointed.

Chrome OS is so close.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so sad that this couldn't quite fit into my workflow. The screen is beautiful, the port selection is top notch, the trackpad is very nice, and the keyboard is pretty good. I really needed support for some full screen Android apps that I usually use in desktop PC, and they were glitchy or not usable at all. Chrome OS is so close! I'll revisit this ecosystem in a year or two.

Wish I could give it more than 5 stars
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's been a few years since I've used a Chromebook and wow, how things have changed! This is now my new favorite laptop. Considering the collection of laptops I've had over the years that's saying a lot. I've spend the last year and a half or so working from home using a Dell Windows tablet from work with a 16:9 screen. I use it and a 32" TV mounted over my desk as a second monitor for video conferencing. At any point I usually have several software apps open and a video meeting open. I thought there would be no way to replicate that workflow on a Chromebook, but not only am I able to, but switching focus from one app to another is much faster because I'm using the browser-based versions of them. Also, I'm able to run the big separate monitor thanks to the built-in full size HDMI port (as opposed to the USB-C to HDMI cable I need to use for the work setup) I'm a project manager and spend most of my life in Jira, Slack and the Microsoft Office suite. The Spin's 3:2 aspect monitor allows me to see more information in Jira without scrolling, and the 2K display is bright and tack-sharp. It's a genuine pleasure to read text off this thing! Fortunately, most of our apps like Jira and Office are able to be accessed through the browser. I am surprised at how well the web versions of things like Microsoft Teams works, and there are absolutely no compromises in accessing them through the Acer Spin. In fact, the screen shape is a huge advantage since I can see more information on one screen or arrange things side to side better than I can on a 16:9 monitor. In addition to the browser I can load up the Android versions of any apps I need (many Chromebooks have full access to the Google Play Store) and run those as needed. Thus far, however, I haven't needed anything beyond the web apps. Battery life is muuuuch better than my work-issued machine, too. I have been able to get through most of an 8-hour day on full brightness and can work from anywhere in the house. I can even sit on the couch and swing the screen around into tablet mode and work from there to catch up on emails while drinking coffee in the morning. Even crazier, if I start running out of juice I'm able to top off the battery for 30 minutes and it gives me another 3-4 hours of charge. Typing is a pleasure on the backlit chiclet-style keyboard. Backlighting comes on automatically when you touch the keys or trackpad and don't seem to have a way to change brightness. The keys have a nice travel and solid feel. There is no flex to the keyboard or anywhere else for that matter. The trackpad is perfect and is an Apple style glass topuchpad. The overall look is a little understated but by no means boring. The entire thing is a bead-blasted aluminum and feels extremely sturdy. It's not flashy enough to draw attention on a train, but wouldn't be mistaken for a school Chromebook either. No creaking at all and fit and finish are all very good. Overall weight is perfect for travel, but just a tad heavy for use as a tablet all the time. It's best suited for the occasional sit-down on the couch in tablet mode. Best of all is performance. With 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core processor the Spin can handle tons of open tabs and Android apps all running simultaneously without breaking sweat. All around performance is extremely smooth and snappy. I’ve even run some more processor-intensive Linux apps like GIMP, Firefox (yes, you can run other browsers in a Linux container!) and KDNLive and have had no problems. Even Borderlands 2 works from Steam in a Linux container in low-graphics mode. This particular model does not have the fingerprint reader some other Spin models have. Also while the fan doesn’t wind up too often at idle it has a weird low-frequency growl that I can hear in a quiet room. Once it spins up the growl goes away. Not sure if this is common to all of this model or just mine. Other than those two minor complaints I have absolutely nothing bad to say at all! If you’re on the fence about Chromebooks, I would urge you to try out this device to see everything Chrome OS can offer.

A serious computer, compact but capable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this Chromebook from best buy tech insider network at no cost to provide my unbiased opinion on it. This is my first chrome os system that I have owned, and really had a chance to really use. I have owned android phones since my second smartphone (my first was a windows phone) and so the transition to this system was not difficult, because setting and menus and such are laid out very similar. The unit I have has the latest generation i7 processor with 256gb sad, and it is lighting fast in start up. Faster than my surface 3 laptop. the 3:2 format screen is bright and touch is good. overall build in this is very good, solid feel and good touch/grip metal. It is slim and light. It has to usb c type ports, hdmi input, regular usb and micro SD slots, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The colors and resolution do justice to games and work that I do on it I have experience with google docs, but you can also easily add Microsoft office if you wish, Which I may do later, I've not decided yet. very intuitive flow for finding programs and files, the GUI is easily labeled. I like the wide taller screen when I'm doing work, I can stack the window easier and I can view more with this computer. sharing the Google play store with my phone's is nice, I have many things that I can carry over that I have already purchased over the years. I also have my music library carried over and the sound on this unit is very good for it being so slim and trim, has dts abilities. My antivirus program of choice also works well. Duo video chat works well also with my other android phones. I do other video conference program for work from home and I will definitely use this when I work at home or on the road. presentations will also go nicely with this having a nice big screen, but can be tucked away on a podium not blocking me. The taller screen will definitely help me to keep a person viewable on video while accessing other information I need. Battery life is very good, I've used it for 3.5 hours off and on without plugging it in today and it's not even to 50%, so I'm guessing the 10 hour battery life is a good estimate by the company. I am seriously impressed with this computer and for being a dos/windows user almost exclusively for years, I am very pleasantly surprised how easy it is to transition to this and how affordable this is, and it should be taken very seriously for a primary use computer. If the OS is generally as stable as my Android phones google puts out, this is going to serve me well for years.

Great workhorse - my primary computer now
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A stunning versatile, powerful Chromebook. I bought this to replace my rapidly aging Acer R11, which I used daily. The R11 will no longer receive ChromeOS updates after June 2022 (this laptop will receive them until 2029). After several weeks of use, I continue to be impressed with the Spin 713. In every use case, it performs better than expected, from Linux software development to streaming Netflix/HULU/Prime, to just browsing the internet. It compares favorably to my two year old i7 MSI Laptop for everything except gaming.

Bad Speakers & USI Interface -- Thanks Google?
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This would-be amazing Chromebook is crippled by a buggy OS that causes crackling in the right speaker -- making unusable the already weakest link of this device. Further, if you want to use a USI pen with this the writing is sporadic garbage. After trying 2 different USI pens and 2 of these Chromebooks, both resulted in a horribly inaccurate writing experience compared to the windows/apple with onboard digitized stylus/apple pencil. Unknown if that is software or hardware. On top of that, apps crash mid-use as Google pushes updates, but I can't blame this device for that. Google advertising their OS as a stable/trouble free environment around updates is a disgusting lie-- don't buy this because of that. (...not saying windows has any better of record) Point being, this seems to be a great Chromebook -- hopefully only temporarily crippled by it's OS and optional interfaces.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had an old acer chromebook, replaced with samsung which died in less than a week! So here I am, back to another Acer Chromebook. This unit, the Spin 713, has been upgraded considerably. Starting with the Intel Evo Core i5 processor, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD plus the Thunderbolt 4 ports! I am also happy about the sd card input to download pics and movies. HDMI, 3 usb which two are T-bolt 4 I have had excellent experience with Acer! That is why I went back to an ole faithful in Acer that is on steroids.....for a chromebook!

great device when its working. Battery issue
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery wouldn't recharge after 10 weeks. 2 weeks after it was no longer eligible for return. I contacted Acer. Live support staff very responsive, no wait time. they arranged for free shipping for warranty repair. Repair took 3 weeks, typical of current labor shortages. They replaced battery. Its working great again, and hopefully it will last this round.

A great laptop for a sensational price.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My sister needed a new laptop since she was not totally pleased with another device. I asked her what her budget was and I began to do research and provide options for her and this laptop had all the requirements she needed plus more. We got this on sale for $619 in late August and I think it is a tremendous value for the price. It's been a couple of months and she is still super happy with the laptop and if I were in the market for one, I would purchase one for myself.
