The chromebook worked great for the first month, then a constant crackling sound began whenever the sound was playing. Based on my research online this appears to be a common software issue related to the Acer chromebook, and does not appear to have a solution. Very disappointed especially given price of chromebook.

The device is beautiful, sturdy, and has an amazing keyboard. The battery life is INCREDIBLE very convenient, I could easily leave the charger at home and not worry about it. I loved the feel of the device and how comfortable it was to carry around. HOWEVER, the computer would open, close, and return to old pages/tabs ALL the time. The speakers would often have a crackling sound it was so weird. Mouse cursor would also act crazy and not respond at times even when using a bluetooth mouth. I wiped/restore (powerwash) the device multiple times within the spam of 10 days. It was a headache, I got it mainly for work purposes as I do a lot of cloud work. I tried removing all pre-installed extensions and downloaded apps, I tried it ALL. I had to return the product because for the price point and considering that it was just a CHROMEBOOK the investment was not worth it. The device crash so often it became unberable. I'm sure there was something wrong with the hardware on this device, last I'd heard was that it could probably be a problem with the touch screen and the hinges... Who knows, anyways, if you do get it I would really use it to its full capacity and software capabilities within those 15 days before coming to the purchase. Needless to say, the device has WAY TO MANY ISSUES for me to recommended. DO NOT GET IT, you will regrett it.

I've had this machine 8 months and it's been sent in for warranty repair 2 times because the battery won't charge. Do you want a machine that has to go in for warranty repair every 4 months? I think not. When it works, it's great. When I'm paying for shipping for the second time to get it repaired again, it's not so great.

At this stage, I cannot recommend this Chromebook: - crackling speakers. Others in the reviews here and some on Reddit have reported this issue. Even when I mute the Chromebook or turn ON Do Not Disturb, the speakers crackle when I receive a notification or when a webpage sends a notification. It is super annoying, especially if you are trying to be quiet. - DisplayLink thunderbolt 3 docking station: all my other devices (1 Chromebook, 2 PCs) work fine, but this Acer unit drops the video feed (external monitors) about 60 minutes after starting to use the docking station. I extensively use this docking station for work and have 0 issue with it then. I have also 0 issue with it when using my old Chromebook (Pixel Slate), but this Acer unit cannot stay connected to the monitors (while power and ethernet are still active) - Bluetooth: as this Acer does not have a fingerprint scanner, I want to use my Pixel 6 Pro connected via Bluetooth to unlock the Acer Chromebook (this is a pretty old feature on chromebooks at this stage). This works flawlessly on my Google Slate Chromebook. However, here, the Bluetooth is switched off everytime I open the screen, so I cannot unlock the Chromebook with my android phone, because the Bluetooth is off. Acer support says it is by design; this makes no sense as I need the Bluetooth ON when getting out of sleep, so the device can be unlocked with the smartphone. - Video conferencing: I cannot see myself, I cannot see others. This is weird and I do not get it. I checked the camera / mic settings 10x but it does NOT work when I try to video call someone. If I get a video call and pick up, I can see them, but cannot see myself. This might be a software bug, however, it only happens on this device. I am sending the unit back to Acer via an RMA. I will update this review if the repairs fix all this or if they send me a new unit that works normally without all these issues.

Historically I have been critical of Chromebooks. I never saw the point in having a machine that cost roughly the same as an equivalent PC which was often limited to ChromeOS and locked you in to using a (relatively) narrow selection of apps. Why not just get the PC, live in Chrome browser, and call it a day? You'd achieve the same objective while also keeping the freedom to run anything you might want to on Windows or Linux-base OSes. Then I saw this machine and it intrigued me. One thing had ChromeOS certainly has in its favor is that it's lightweight and doesn't kill your battery. This makes this machine an excellent travel companion. It's lightweight enough to toss in your backpack for a flight, use it solely on battery, and still have power to spare by the time you reach your destination. Because this is a 2-in-1 it's easy enough to use like any other tablet on said flight too. I've done so while traveling as well as commuting on public transportation to university and it works very well for that. In class, however, I want the full PC experience and I was pleasantly surprised that this machine is no slouch in that department either. The keyboard is very nice. The keys have jut the right amount of travel and the whole thing nice and sturdy. Deck flex has not been an issue for me. The screen is plenty bright and whatever coating Acer used on it is doing a great job. Smudges from using it in tablet mode have not been an issue for me. Software-wise you have the usual suspects. Google's bundled apps and most of what's available in the Play store. Incidentally, I have found that Google's Jamboard app has been a go-to for me during class, especially when we break into groups. It's nice to have an instant whiteboard that we can just write anything on and the integrated stylus makes marking up really easy and precise. Then when we're done it's super easy to share it with everyone. What you're also getting with this machine is a fairly well spec'd computer overall. About half of the time I'm using the integrated linux (debian) functionality as a developer to do things like build and run Python programs. I love having the flexibility to do this though I will admit that it'll reduce your battery life per charge. That said, I am more than happy to trade the extra battery life for the convenience of not having to use a separate computer. All in all this is a great machine and think the flexible use cases plus the respectable under the hood power make it a decent value for $579. I admit, I would've liked to see there be a 16GB RAM option, especially if you plan on running Linux apps. Also the speakers on this machine aren't going to win any awards for quality or volume if you primarily use them as a sound source over headphones. Given that I'm nearly always in public when I'm using it though I've usually got my headphones connected anyway. 5 stars from me. I dare say this machine could become my daily driver!
