Has a crackling sound on the speakers, almost sounds like one is blown at times. And shuts down from time to time.

I was hoping for an upgrade, but it wasn't. Big fan of Spin's as I have one that is a few years old. I was thinking that this new processor would make this a killer buy...but I have had two sent to me and had to return both. Same issue with both. Worked great for a week...then one day, got really, really hot, turned off never to be turned one again. My thoughts,...First one...fluke. The second one with same issue...solid nope. I was frankly afraid that the thing would start on fire. Settled on the Acer 516-GE, which doesn't have a touch screen, but should be nice and speedy for my daily driver. I have used Acer's for a long time and was looking forward to my new Spin...guess I will have to wait for a few years.

    Disappointing Trackpad & Speaker Crackle

With a 16:10 screen and garaged stylus, I really wanted to like this laptop, but ultimately returned both of the units I tried. The first one had a very sloppy/loose trackpad and the trackpad on the second one would sometimes have erratic sensitivity. Both had the crackling static noise others have reported. The noise is brief and seems to come from the left speaker when notifications arrive or webpages that contain audio/video load, but it does not always happen. Most disconcerting to me was that the crackle occurs even when the speakers are muted. Maybe an update will fix this unless it is a hardware issue. I also found the back edges to be a bit sharp and uncomfortable on bare skin. The keyboard was just average to me with the key tops having more play than I prefer.

I've been using Chromebooks for 15 years at least, and this one is the worst. Right from the start this Chromebook reboots itself all the time and/or crashes. It is also way thicker and heavier than any other I've owned. I feel like the weight they say it is in the description is incorrect. Also, if you have a watchband with a magnetic clasp, the magnet seems to interfere with the screen when typing. Plus, it claims to be optimized for video calls, but every time I do one, the people on the other end hear an echo. High recomend you avoid this lemon.

I bought this laptop after seeing it on a discounted price. It's sleek, and light and has a good picture quality. It also connect to wifi quickly and able to runs smoothly. Unfortunately, the work program I need to run is not compatible with chrome OS so I returned it. I would have kept it if not for the compatibility issue. I'm sure there's a way to do but don't have the knowledge and time to do it.

I have been using chromebooks for over 5 years and I think they are great for what I do. I own a pixelbook go which I like a lot but it can’t be used with a pen to comment on my work pdfs. This is why I decided to buy an Acer spin 714 which comes with a pen. Overall I think it is a great computer except that every time a sound comes in there is a crackling sound. I tried to get used to it but it is too often and too annoying. I searched the web to find out that it is a very common issue on some models, not only under the acer brand. Sadly I will have to return it and I don’t know what other model to buy with similar characteristics.

Chromebooks are the new laptop in my opinion. Using cloud storage to help save money and space in a laptop to me is the way to go. This Acer Chromebook Spin has all the bells and whistles necessary to get things done! I have been using Chromebooks for a few years now and each one gets better and better. I was shocked when I saw that it has 8GM RAM and 256GB SSD storage- pretty rare for a chromebook. With that said, the need for cloud storage isn't as dire as most chromebooks; though I still recommend using Google Drive with any chromebook just for ease of use. Battery life is exceptional! I was able to use it for about 8 hours total without needing to charge it. I put it in my bag and forgot about it for a day and it still had some juice left! The charger itself is portable and easy to toss in your bag when you're on the go. The Acer Chromebook Spin is lightweight at about 3lbs and compact enough that you barely notice it in your bag. This Chromebook is also touchscreen and comes with a stylus to make it even more easy to use. I personally don't care if a laptop has a touchscreen or not but the stylus and notepad feature is pretty neat. I would recommend this Chromebook for basically anyone- students of any grade, teachers, business people, you name it, this chromebook will help you get the job done!

A good Chromebook option for productivity

As a student with a full time job having a device that can keep up with my busy schedule is a must. I needed something that was portable, excellent battery life, great screen and high performance, and most importantly it needed to be a Chrome OS device. The reason why I went with Chrome OS is because of the streamlined approach to updates. After spending a couple of weeks with the Acer Spin 714, I can confidently say that it has surpassed my expectations. Some of the features that I like about the Acer Spin 714 is the portability. Even though it’s a 14 inch laptop it almost feels more like a 13.3 inch device. The display is excellent it gets plenty bright and it has good color reproduction making it a joy to used for productivity work and media consumption. The 16:10 Aspect ratio is a good compromise between the 16:9 and 3:2 Aspect Ratio. It’s slightly taller, making it an excellent display for school work and media consumption. Another benefit to this the smaller black bars when viewing videos. I’m a huge fan of the 16:10 screens and was happy to see that the Acer Spin 714 had one. Since this a 2 in 1 device, Acer included a stylus that is stored at the bottom right of the laptop similar like a Galaxy Note device. With touchscreen support it does increased the compatibility of Android apps that do not support keyboard input. Also the stylus works well for writing and drawing with some additional quick tools like screen capture, laser pointer and magnifying glass. If you want to, you can use the Acer Spin 714 as a 14 inch tablet. The back light keyboard does provide a good typing experience. It gets plenty bright to see the keys in the dark and with just the right amount of feedback without feeling too soft. The track pad is a decent size. The surface is smooth and overall does a good job of recognizing my gestures. The top firing speaker is decent. It gets plenty loud. There’s a decent amount of ports available like a full size HDMI port and USB port along with 2x Type C USB ports that also support charging and video out. There’s also a 3.5 mm aux port for headphones. Performance wise is not much to talk about since 12th Gen Intel i5 processor has plenty of power to spare for the Chrome OS. The 8GB of ram do a solid of job keeping tabs open and not bogging down when having multiple apps and browser tabs open at the same time. Cold boot up times are pretty quick due to the included 256GB NVME SDD drive, that should provide plenty of room for most users including booting up from sleep state. Battery life was solid giving me around 8 hrs of usage before needing a charge. As for charging speeds they are fast coming in right over an hour for a full charge with the included charger. There’s a also a quick charge feature, with just 30 mins of charging will gained you 4 hrs of battery life, which is perfect for someone on the go. Build quality is excellent. The top and bottom panels are aluminum but the middle is made out of a hard plastic. You won’t noticed it right away unless you’re looking for it. Even though it’s plastic it doesn’t exhibit any squeaks when picking it up with one hand. I did noticed that if I picked it up from the right side around the area of the stylus location, the quick tools menu for the stylus popped out but went away when I put it back down. It’s a minor convenience but I wouldn’t worry about it since the style does sit right in the middle where the bottom panels connects with the deck area. The good thing is the area around the touch pad is solid so I didn’t see any ghost taps or movements. If I had to put a number on the build quality it would be like a 8 out of 10. For the most part Acer did an excellent job. Overall my experience for the last couple of weeks with the Acer Spin 714 has been good. With a good battery life and the convenience of quick charge so far have ease my concerns of not having enough battery life during class sessions. The 14 inch display has been perfect so far to work with. It’s the right size for productivity work and media consumption. Another huge win in my book is the included full size HDMI port and USB port. Not having to worry about leaving a dongle behind has been awesome so far. Acer really did their work on what a laptop should be for a student or teacher. I highly recommend that you a closer look at the Acer Spin 714 Chromebook.

Purchased this to replace my Pixel Slate. Wanted something more laptop-like so I could type in my lap (which I don't do often, but do often enough that the Pixel Slate was impossible to deal with), something with an upgradable SSD, and something that supported Steam. This ticks all the boxes and, so far it's doing all of the above quite well.

I'm using the spin 714 to replace the spin 713, Other than the screen size I prefer 13.5 over the 14 in on the 714. But I can live with the newer unit.

So far, I am really happy with this laptop. I am so glad it was on sale . That’s what attracted me to it. I was looking for a red color but they didn’t have one, in stock, in my price range so that’s when my son and came across this one. And I actually have been watching movies on it from my Amazon Prime too. Really good picture quality.

It's glitchy. It makes a pop when clicking on YT videos for example. Also, regularly movies cannot be streamed. Need to shutdown fully, and then re-start in order to get Netflix, Amazon, etc. videos to play. In looking online, this is a known issue. Also, the resolution is a step down from the previous model. Overall, it is disappointing, especially since I had the previous model.
