purchased two of these for my kids and the tablet seemed alright until trying to watch a movie or play a game and there was no sound. the speakers must not be soldered very well because you have to smack the back of the tablet to get them to work

Speaker is NO GOOD! Junk at best. You have to hit it to get the speaker to play and works at best intermittently. Buy something else!

When Batting .500 is Equal to Zero

So I buy 2 of these tablets yesterday, 7/9/16. Go through the charging, registering, updating, etc... One of the tablets works fine and it should on day #1. The other has a mechanical issue, no volume. I went into the Settings and checked the different volume adjustments. They were all "up" and I even tested the volume off of YouTube and Google Music. Next I call customer service, after none of the manual's troubleshooting suggestions worked. The customer service rep offered two potential fix processes and neither worked. "You must return it to the store for replacement." The rep told me, which was kind of a no brainer. "I just find it odd it's not working right out of the box." I told him. Then dead air for several seconds. I went on to say, "Plus the fact the other seems to be working perfectly." Dead air again for several more seconds. Here's the rub...No possible explanation for the defect and MOST importantly NO remorse or apology for this issue. Now I know it's not a perfect world and things happen. This tablet could be dysfunctional for one of several reasons, none of which the rep is responsible for. A simple" I'm sorry for this problem" or "I apologize for the inconvenience sir" would have gone a long way with me. That rep had the opportunity twice to give, at minimum, a superficial apology. Why he didn't is beyond me. It would have gone a long way to show this customer that Acer is a better than average electronics company, if he had done so. I'm in a service based business and I have bad days too. Maybe this rep wasn't doing so hot himself, though I doubt it statistically. I have NEVER not tried to seem sympathetic, if not outright apologizing for whatever issues my customer has. So I'm done with Acer, even if these tablets last 5 years without issue. Now I'm off to the local BB to exchange the defective tablet.

Unable to get sound from device speaker

I purchased this tablet today and set it up, did the updates and was unable to get sound. Took it back to bestbuy and they exchanged it because they couldn't get it to work. Did the same with new product and got the same results no sound. Called the number given and spoke with tech from Acer, he walked me through the process and he says it's a defect. How many defected devices would 1 store have ? If anyone has a solution to this problem please help.

I have had a lot of success with the Acer Ionia tablets. I use them daily for basic Internet surfing, email, Android Aps, Google, ect. and for the price I am very satisfied.

Bad speaker, and likely not just on a few units

What are the odds, I thought? They can't ALL be like that, right? Surely it's just one shipment that has the bad speaker wiring that the other reviews refer to, correct? Acer wouldn't just ship a batch of junk without any quality control at all, right? Best Buy wouldn't sell a product that is completely broken in manufacturing, would they? Well... yes, yes they would. Note to Acer: if you want to protect your brand in any shape way or form, you can't ship entire lines of product with a manufacturing defect. The speaker breaks if you tap it and goes in and out if you keep tapping.

Opened it up tried the camera to see the quality and it black screened and is now just turning off and on repeatedly and I cant reset it with the reset button or by holding the power button. This may just be the worst tablet I have ever seen. The first 10 seconds of me using it was great then it just black screened.

Had a hard time finding this in stock while on sale but after 4 stores I did. I made them open it up at the store and boot it. You get really weird prompts in Chinese. They gave me another one in place of that when they couldn't get it to work and to my dismay I didn't try the second one in the store. I couldn't get past the google log-in so I called tech support. W/out the EIN # they send you to a 3rd party screener who was rude and unhelpful. I found the # and called back to completely erase the unit and reboot. That didn't work as it wouldn't sign in to google. Called a 2nd time only to be told it's google's fault not Acers. So they don't stand behind their products. Oh and all of the tech support sounds like it's overseas. I can't see recommending this to anyone.

    Avoid This Product

Tablet lasted less than 3 months before it died. Sent it back to Acer and they claimed it was damaged beyond repair and therefore not covered by the warranty. The tablet has never been dropped nor abused in any way shape or form. The Acer Representative I spoke to couldn't elaborate on why it wasn't covered. It was a run around. We have in the past had reasonable experiences with Acer products but this dead tablet and a laptop experiencing issues and lack of competent English speaking technical support has soured our relationship

Bad out of the box (speaker cutting off)

Purchased on Father's day 2016 as a present for my son for getting straight As at school. He was very excited for about 15 minutes after getting it when we realized that the speaker on the tablet was bad. It would cut off so no sound is heard. If you tap the tablet, it would come on, but then at some point it would cut off again. Sad that this is the quality control companies consider acceptable nowadays.

As per previous reviews, they still haven't fixed the speaker issues. Sound works find if you use headphones, but no sound out of the speakers. I tried reseting and updating software, but no luck. Going back.
