I don't often do reviews, but I felt compelled to do this one. I am just so impressed by this laptop and it's options for expandability. I was feeling a bit annoyed about the fact that I ordered and SSD for upgrade, but hadn't ordered or thought to order screws. Just like one of the other reviews indicated, this laptop COMES WITH M.2 screws (screwed into the expansion port, not in a bag). It's a tiny detail, but all the little things add up. As long as you know what you are ordering, this laptop IMO is a steal as is. I ordered with the intent to upgrade SSD and RAM. For a portable laptop w/ some gaming possibilities/daytrading/basic art stuff to go with graphics tablet, I am more than happy with what I've got. For my use, I don't need no 20XX GPU. I got my gaming desktop for that. I was honestly surprised this laptop hasn't sold out yet. Similar base specs on amazon goes for over 700USD+ AND gets scalped/resold for more constantly (battery life, 15.6 in, 1650 GPU, 8GB, 4600H, 256GB SSD). I was literally eye-balling several laptops over the holidays on multiple sites to see if they'd ever come down below 700.

I bought this computer for my grandson who uses it primarily for gaming. The first unit we received had a screen problem (screen went dark and would not come back on). We returned that unit and bought another one. The Best Buy return process was excellent; quick and easy to use. The second unit works well and my grandson is very happy with it. He loves the keyboard and the gaming mouse that I bought to go with it. This looks to be a great machine for a young gamer and it was the most reasonably priced of machines I found with its level of performance.

Pretty kick a** laptop. It has never majorly lagged and I play rather heavily on it and still runs smooth. I get a lot of compliments from how it looks. I'm always a fan of red and black. The screen looks fine but I wish it can dim even more so but alas. The only downside is the battery. When I play something, even if it's light, the battery goes out in what seems like ten minutes but as long as you're near a plug, you'll be fine. Other than that, the price, looks, speed, and build of the laptop is excellent. Definitely the best to purchase.

This model of the Acer Nitro 5 comes with a 3rd gen AMD Ryzen 5 4600H CPU, and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU, which are suitable for mid-range gaming rigs. It also comes with 256 GB of SSD storage, but that doesn't account for the OS being installed so you actually get about 220 to 230 GB, but that's ok because this laptop has upgradable storage, 1 SSD slot and 1 hard drive slot. It only has 8 GB of RAM but again this is fine because you can also upgrade its RAM up to 16 GB, you can find plenty of YouTube videos and articles taking you step by step on how to do this. All of this will get you 150+ FPS games like Borderlands 2, Paladins, CS:GO, Minecraft, and Civ 6 on the highest settings, however this is limited by the laptops 60 Hz monitor. Overall an amazing deal on a budget gaming laptop and an even better deal if you can grab it on sale for about $599 USD.

it has amazing graphics and picks my crappy internet up better than anything I've owned. I can actually play MMOs and not lag for once. Its also nice and light weight unlike my last laptop. My only issue is the sound. Video games sound great but not actual videos? Like YouTube and stuff I mean, seems really quiet. I wish the speakers were on the top keyboard area not on the sides of the laptop. But like I said games themselves have perfect surround sound like quality so its ok really. No REAL complaints tbh

Overall, this is a pretty good gaming laptop at this price range (Ryzen 4000 series is pretty cool), kudos to Acer for making the gaming laptop industry competitive for budget people like me. This laptop is easily expandable, add another HDD or/and SSD along with another 8gb 3200mhz (has to be 3200mhz ram or else it might not work) ram and you should be off to a great start (256gb SSD is not enough for most people, highly recommend to upgrade space. However you should watch a video on how to take the cover off if you're new to upgrading, there also seems to be no void warranty stickers so this is pretty upgradeable). However, one thing to keep in mind is this thing is a TANK and weighs a ton, although this is the case for many gaming laptops. This thing is meant to stay on a table and not a backpack. Also, the touchpad is just horrible, you will need to use a mouse. And the fans are LOUD LOUD LOUD when gaming. Also, THERE IS NO THUNDERBOLT (charging through USB-C), kinda sad to see in 2020. I like the screen, 1080p, good enough brightness, there's no reason to bring this outside. With a GTX 1650, you will be playing 1080p games on medium depending on the game. Be warned though, when the game time starts, the fans kick into hyperdrive. It is really loud. I wear earphones so I don't care, but those sitting nearby might make a comment. If you game at 1080 on your lap, you might want a fire extinguisher with you, the heat might just burn your pants. (This is a joke but it does get really hot on the bottom, recommend getting a cooling pad for your table) The keyboard is "ok" and backlit but only in red (could be a bit brighter, it only looks cool in the dark). The right side of the keyboard has the strangest layout because of: the 10 key Numpad. Delete, backspace, etc... are all in weird places. I sometimes use an external keyboard for general use and the laptop keyboard for gaming. Also, I wished there was a dedicated button for the on/off button somewhere on the side or more above the current spot, not a keyboard button. It makes turning off your computer less special and it blends in so it might be hard to find it when you first get it. Throw away the idea of gaming without a charger though, if it works at all you might get 20-30 mins. You will be hauling around a pretty large AC adapter, probably an extra pound. I will repeat myself, this is a GAMING laptop, not a travel laptop. You will not be whipping this out on a plane/train or car. It is huge. I can hardly carry this laptop and its charger without breaking my back. If you are thinking about buying this for anyone in college or under, you might be making a mistake unless they're going to major in eSports. Super overkill for junior high/high schoolers and too massive for college. The touchpad. This is super annoying. The entire pad "clicks" together - moves as one piece. So if you want to right-click on something, the entire thing clicks and moves. Anyways, this is for gaming anyways so USE A MOUSE (if you must you can try to find a video on how to download windows precision drivers, currently elan IC2, WARNING download at your own risk). It doesn't come precharged, and people complaining about it not starting; you need to use your muscle and push in the charger all the way to hear that satisfying click on the back. There are rumors with Acer nitro laptops hinges breaking 2 years after purchase (from 2018 nitro models, dunno if they improved it this year), so beware of long time use (most likely because of its plastic), treat with respect when opening and closing to maximize hinge life. I was tricked into thinking it had 144hz on their Youtube, and Acer is pretty sketchy about revealing full specs and it doesn't have an online document to see all the ram types and others to know how to upgrade. Anyways, if you're hoping for 144hz, the current releases are budget, so don't get your hopes too high. (Also Acer if you are reading this, does it have 3ms response time?) If anyone has questions just let me know and I will try to answer.

Highly Recommend! Daughter had and loved her 17" Acer Predator gaming laptop. Sadly, she took it to college and dropped it off the top bunk in her dorm room. (though the screen hinge separated from the body it surprisingly still worked!) Had to replace it since a laptop shouldn't really be a 2 piece thing :-) and she also used it also for her school work. Reluctantly picked up the Nitro as it was in stock, and though several hundred dollars cheaper, was not disappointed. In fact we were pleasantly surprised. She actually says she prefers it. It's fast with great graphics. This is our 4th Acer product and have no reservations on saying they make one of the best quality, value for your money laptops out there. When my latest HP dies (which seems to be every 2 years hmmmn?) I'm def looking at another Acer for myself.

I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore (in fact the term hardcore gamer was used the last time I was!),l, but even then this laptop has no issues running MS flight simulator 2020 on medium to high end, doom eternal, and other new of recent games. *** I did upgrade the RAM to 16mg and added another hard drive the day I got it, very easy to upgrade!

Amazing for students and anyone wanting to get into PC gaming! Got on sale for around $640, for a 6 core processor and a decent graphics card it's a steal! I went ahead and upgraded the RAM to 16gb but the 8gb stick that came with it was surprisingly 3200mhz, so already high speed for the Ryzen processor out of the box! Also threw in an additional 1TB NVME M.2 SSD for my games. But already comes with a high speed SSD for boot!

If this had a 4K screen it'd be the best computer I've ever purchased. The screen is still really good for the price point. We purchased this for our son and he loves it, I have no complaints. The fan noise when gaming is very low and the machine never feels hot. The keyboard is great for him but maybe not so great for actual office work. Seems to be just as fast as an intel machine. Amazing overall and I'd buy it again.

I couldn't find a comparably spec'd laptop for this price. I upgraded the RAM and added another SSD. Opening the case was easy. Just remove screws and ply it open. Once open, the computer is well designed with nice heat sinks and dual cooling fans. It runs cool for the most part and is relatively quiet unless the fan is on full blast.

I'm an avid gamer that usually uses a desktop PC for my needs. After my recent cancer diagnosis, I figured it would be worth while to invest in a "backup" laptop for on-the-go entertainment while traveling or stuck in hospitals or clinics. I have not been disappointed. This laptop has specs adequate enough to run most new-old games on medium settings with no issues. Battery life while unplugged can be as short as two hours if you are running something system-intensive. Other than that, it does tend to run hot while running games, but that can be addressed by being careful about the airflow of the surfaces you place it on, or by getting yourself a cooling base.
