Got this laptop for my programming course, and once i upgraded the ram i have not been having any issues running the programs that i need for school. plus, it is on the cheaper side when looking at decent gaming laptops.

So very nice to be able to see the keys after sunset and it’s light enough that I can carry it to meetings where I can display my work well. I don’t play games like CoD but for SWTOR PVE it’s perfect. I think it could handle the more demanding games. The battery lasts several hours helping me take the fun on the road.

I’ve only had one thing that frustrates me about the computer. Sometimes it will get all funky and lag out hard. Like it can’t keep up with the sound and graphics and the screen freezes. Annoying as ever since I do pvp a lot in world of Warcraft. Other then that it runs smooth, graphics are good. Doesn’t overheat, great working fans. It over all is a great buy if you’re a beginner. If you’re super hardcore and more advanced with tech then you should probably look else where for perfection. No other issues have happened to me. I can stream and play.. I can record and play with not screw ups. Mostly reliable. I’d make the same buy if I had the choice!

I bought this PC in a hurry as my other laptop had problems right before a trip out of town. I bought this at a BB store with the salesperson reviewing the website. Not in inventory, but guaranteed I would get it in 2 days, which happened.. I understand this is a "gamer" laptop but I am not a gamer. I wanted backlit keyboard and it is but I do not like the red backlighting. It seems to run okay and was not a problem getting up and going. The price was also okay. I would not purchase again and I was gone too long to return. Will use for a while longer.

Good:
keyboard - luxurious - lights up - very soft - easy to type - less fatigue from typing
powerful-ish - can open 30 tabs in chrome w/o lag
Bad:
processor - lags from simple commands like right clicking on desktop when no other application is on (i think this is because its a gaming laptop)
no touchscreen - once you get used to it, you miss touch screen
Criticism:
a gaming laptop has been my dream for the past 10yrs, but never got one kuz they were 1k, this year they seem to be on sale for 1/2 that price everywhere so bought one. unfortunately i'm an adult w/ kids - so no time for gaming - have yet to game on this gaming laptop

I can not complain about this laptop, it's a true top performer, looks and sounds superb. I put it through its paces with Sea of Theives and it did not disappoint! Form factor is nice very good looking laptop, it does have a bit of weight to it, but not much. Glad I purchased it.

I bought this laptop for my son after seeing the configuration and price. Price is pretty good for this configuration , we were looking for something good and cheap with good configuration. So far we have not experienced any issue. Display/Graphics configuration is also nice.

I give it 3 stars as for the 8 months I have had it I loved it. Only issue was every so often no matter what I was doing, including just checking an email it would shut off and then restart on it's own. Then the end of July it messed up. Took it back to Best Buy and it was a software problem which of course I only got the hardware warranty when I bought it and paid for the warranty. So bought the 1 year software warranty. Got it back the beginning of August and was doing great. Then the blue screen of death. Went to the store was not going to be long so left the laptop on. Came home hit the enter button to bring the screen on and the blue screen of death. It did it 4 times so I called Best Buy. they were great just bring it in. I did and when they tested it they found out it is the hard drive. Now I am 61 years old and I do not do gaming other than dumb little games on FB. Now I am upset as I will be 2 to 3 weeks without a computer. Have an old HP it starts but runs so slowly as it is over 7 years old. An old Dell that is 5 and runs slowly but at least they never had any issues. I bought this computer as it had such great reviews. I seen a couple of the 1 star reviews and seen one person had to have the hard drive replaced twice. I am praying that does not happen otherwise it will be back to HP or Dell. Thank God I purchased the Geek squad total plan. Best Buy is always the Best.

This is a great entry-level gaming computer; it's well worth the price, and so far I've been able to play pretty much every game I've wanted to on it (newer titles included).

Bought this computer for under $700 and I was very impressed. It’s fast, sleek, and great for gaming. Only real complaint is that it’s not touch screen but who cares. I rarely ever use the touch screen on my other laptops.

I replaced my 7 year old Toshiba (Microsoft Windows) laptop with this Acer Nitro 5. Though this laptop is aimed at gamers, which I am not, it still has the features and a brand reliability history that I was looking for. Features such as, MU-MIMO wireless connection (that is strong), 1080P full HD screen, a powerful cooling system and an intel CORE i5 8th Gen processor. My old Toshiba struggled at times with WiFi connectivity and cooling issues, so I am glad for the improvements with this particular Acer laptop.
The red back-lit keyboard is a little odd, but nice and the speakers are better than my old laptop.
All in all, after 2 months of ownership and use, I am suitably impressed and am satisfied with my choice of this Acer Nitro 5 laptop.

After over a year of use here is what I think. This laptop is quite powerful but it has one flaw. First is my issue. The thermals. Acers thermal solution on this Nitro 5 is not great. The CPU will easily pass 90c while gaming, the gpu 80c. The I5 will throttle quite a bit. My recommendation would be to repaste it. I used Corsair XTM 50. I also replaced the thermal pads. After that, the CPU would get to maybe 70c while gaming the GPU 60c or so. No more throttling.
The gaming performance is pretty good for under $700. The screen is better than I expected, needs to be a little brighter but quite good. They keyboard is acceptable. My hands are huge so its fine for most people. The speakers are good, not the loudest. But pretty clear. The I5-8300H is a powerhouse. Its single and multi core performance is better than the 7700hq from yester year, which was the top for gaming machines. The GTX 1050 is a decent card. Its not going to run the latest tiles at ultra detail but you can get 50 plus fps in most games. E Sports you will be just fine. The games I play are not as common. I tested IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles, at medium detail, which gets over 70fps. Max about 40, I also tested Prepar3D V4 which gets 25 to 30 fps. But anything above 22 is expected P3D has horrible fps. But none of those will play on the 8gb included memory. I upgraded mine to 16, which improves performance a lot. Plus I also added a Samsung 860 Evo SATA ssd for 90$ as soon as I got it the Nitro 5. So as try and get an ssd equipped model. I would have but I already had my 860 sitting around with windows already on it.
