This product is a little disappointing to me. It runs great, has lots of storage etc. but I feel it is cheaply made as the hinges on mine are bad already.

This laptop is a good deal for the price. It performs great for gaming while plugged in. It's battery life while gaming is not the best as it will last around two hours. It will last around five hours with normal browsing. The specs are good for the price, and it runs as you would expect. With it's 1050, I5 8300, and 8 gbs of ram it has great performance. It has a quick boot time even without an SSD. The laptop is fairly thin for a gaming laptop, and feels solid without being heavy to carry around. The black finish looks really clean, but it isn't easy to keep it that way as fingerprints do show easily. It overall is a good purchase for a gaming laptop.

Bought this laptop for my wife was fantastic for a couple months a windows update happened after a couple months 3 months to be exact. Then the laptop decided to die literally and Acer won’t do nothing about it even though it was under warranty because it was ‘software’ related not hardware so now I have to spend 200 dollars to get Best Buy protection. I spent over 1k on this laptop not happy

This laptop is great. Fast. Has all that I needed. But delivery of the product was traumatic experience. 26th they said it was delivered but the package was no where to be found. I called 6-7 times to get a reshipment. 2 days later lost package showed up at my door step with out any buzz at the door bell. Had to call them 6-7 times again to let them know that I received it and don't need the reshipment .

The screen blacks out during use then never turns on again. Sent it in for repair and a DAY after I got it back it did the same thing. Now they want me to send it in AGAIN to wait weeks for my laptop that will probably do the same thing. Really disappointed. I’m a struggling college student and I spent so much on this just to have it be my biggest purchase regret.

Supposed to have 4K quality rendering. Graphic card is laggy and the display is very low only good to play in completely dark rooms to be the quality of display they advertised. For video editing it is not as promised. Very slow rendering. Would not recommend this item to anyone serious about video editing if there on a budget. Best Buy only has a 15 day return policy.

I picked this up at BB and within a day the screen started flashing like a strobe light..returned it for another one and less than a year this one goes between the flickering and a pink screen. The back lit keyboard has no feature to keep it lit all the time, which it never stated in the description. Now it's just a useless paper weight.

Always been leary of Acer, but the price was right. Well, it was wrong. My experience was horable. Initial boot up went to BSD...then finally started after 2 try's. Would not utilize the Nvidia GC, had to manually change it. And yes updated all drivers. May have worked for others, but not me. Returned, will save and get ROG like my last one. Got the Acer Nitro 5 Laptop for our almost 13 year old son who loves video games. The screen size is perfect for gaming. It seems to run fast enough and time will tell if it has enough memory to play all his favorite games. We hope he will use it for school work too, but probably more for gaming. Overall, a nice sized laptop that performs as expected. Easy set up and user friendly. Great for young people who are into gaming!

After playing around with this Acer laptop, there are many positives along with a few negatives. Upon turning on the computer for the first time, you are guided through a couple questions that you can simply answer via voice using Cortana. I don’t know if this is now the norm with Windows 10 system setups, but it was welcoming and quick. This laptop has hard drive versus the comparable Acer model sporting solid state drive (SSD). A computer with a solid state drive usually boots up and opens applications quicker than those with a hard drive. For reference, I clocked the boot-up at about 40 seconds, which isn’t too bad but may slow down over time as more applications that initialize at start-up are installed. However, this Acer has 1T of storage compared to just 256GB on the Acer with the SSD. When it comes to gaming, I tested the currently popular Fortnite. When loading up, the laptop asked if I wanted to let it set the graphics optimization for the game in order to have it run smoothly. When selected, it put the graphics at ‘medium’ which didn’t look too good on the 1080p screen. I decided to manually change it in-game to ‘epic’ graphics settings and the game ran great with no issues. Perhaps manually changing a few settings with the graphics card would fix this. I do like that the laptop that lets you tweak the graphics card settings or set the internal cooling fan speed, depending on what power intensive apps you are currently running. Perhaps manually changing a few of these settings based on which game I am playing will help to better optimize its use. I should mention, after I turned on and loaded up Fortnite on following days, the laptop didn’t ask if I wanted to optimize any gaming settings as it was already set at ‘epic’ graphics. By the way, I used an Xbox One controller and linking it via Bluetooth was very easy. If you prefer keyboard, the WASD keys are easy to spot thanks to the extra lighting provided to them specifically. There are few things that I don’t find appealing. Even though the screen is 15.6 inches, the bezel surrounding the screen is about an inch wide and feels like wasted space. Also, when on battery power, the keyboard backlight turns off after 30 seconds when its idle. In a dim room, its hard to see what key you are pressing when you are ready to use the keyboard again. Running your finger across the mouse or even clicking the mouse buttons don’t kick in the backlight either. I chose to just click the spacebar. I looked around but didn’t see a setting to have an ‘always on’ lit keyboard or to at least extend it beyond 30 seconds when on battery power. Also, there is no color changing option, as it is only red. With everything considered, there are more positives then negatives. Most of the negatives are just personal preferences which may not bother most users. Overall, I would recommend this Acer Nitro 5.

I’ve always loved gaming, but wouldn’t consider myself a “serious” gamer. Nonetheless, it’s always annoying when a laptop’s fan can’t keep up with the heat generated by a lengthy gaming session. With a limited budget, the best I could usually do was to get one of those cooling pads with built-in fans to put underneath the laptop, but even that was hit or miss. Enter the Nitro 5. At $799, this is not a high-end gaming rig, but it’s a reasonable price for one that sports dedicated video memory for its GPU and other touches to enhance gaming performance. In other words, it allows people who are willing to spend some but not a lot to get better performance for their gaming time. Set up was pretty typical for a Windows machine. It’s got the usual amount of bloatware on it, but I wish that more manufacturers would forgo doing that. Whenever I get a new machine, I always take the time to create recovery media before I install anything. When you need to start from scratch and your hard drive is toast, this is a life-saver. The recovery media creator doesn’t seem to limit the number of times you can run it (unlike some others), but it was probably the slowest recovery media creation process I’ve ever encountered. It doesn’t allow media creation on DVDs (not that I could find), but instead requires a USB flash drive. Once that was done, I was ready to get to some gaming. I decided to start with an F1 racing game to see how it would do. The Nitro5 handled it with ease. There were no glitches, and it was just as good full-screen as it was in a window. I turned on Nitro Sense and was pleasantly surprised. It monitored CPU and GPU utilization, and showed the ambient temperature for each. With Cool Boost on, the fan would run at a higher level, and didn’t allow the temperature to get above 80 degrees. I was impressed with how well it handled the temperature, and the extra fan power really did a good job cooling things down. From an aesthetic perspective, the Nitro 5 looks pretty great. It’s black and red, with a red light backlit keyboard that looks great. It also includes a double row of number and function keys, which is a nice touch. The keys have good travel and feel good when typing, but they don’t offer a lot of tactile feedback when gaming. Nonetheless, I didn’t find that to be a problem. The speakers are plenty loud, with average sound quality. It sports a good-looking screen that is more than adequate for gaming and productivity work. The Nitro5 sports the usual complement of ports, including one USB-C port, and still has an Ethernet port. Those have become increasingly rare, but you would expect one on a gaming rig. Overall, I’m pleased with this machine and I’m looking forward to many hours of gaming fun. For a gaming laptop that won’t break the bank, you should give this one a look.

I don't know why laptops have to always be a boring rectangle. The Acer Nitro 5 has a great style combined with great function. After the setup and loading of some programs, I started testing it out with online games. I noticed an immediate difference in the response time for my favorite games. The Intel Core i5 is clearly a superior processor from past versions. I then started streaming 4K video and was really impressed with the quality of the stream as well as how quickly the video content loaded. The only downside is the laptop got a little warm when the power cord was not attached and I was running a game for about an hour. I've seen this with most laptops I've owned so it wasn't unusual.

Decent Gaming Laptop For The Money

This Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop is a pretty good setup for it's price point. Just remember this is not a high end gaming machine and set your expectations correctly and you will not be disappointed with buying this machine. One of the great things about this laptop is the 8th generation Core i5 quad-core CPU. The 8th gen Intel CPU's are really a step above the previous generations. It makes doing every day tasks such as web surfing, office work, etc a breeze and the responsiveness of the Nitro 5 while performing these tasks is excellent. I am, however, confused by one thing. The item description at the Best Buy website lists 2GB of DDR5 video memory but the sticker on the box the laptop came in lists 4GB. Either way graphics performance on this machine is much better than I was expecting it to be. GTA V was able to be played at 1080p with high settings with no noticeable lag or screen jagginess which is a win. The built in display is fairly pleasing when gaming, viewing photos, or watching videos. Battery life has been about as expected with me averaging between 5 and 6 hours doing the typical kind of daily stuff. Gaming will kill this battery in less than two hours so keep the charger plugged in if at all possible when playing games. The build quality was better than I had anticipated it being for a gaming laptop in this price range. While it is all plastic it has a good feel in the hand and I didn't really notice any "flex" when handling it. When it's not in use I just slip it into the included sleeve. I'd have no problem recommending this laptop for someone who wanted to get a back to basics gaming portable computer.
