A solid but old budget gaming laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this about 5 years ago now and it has served me pretty well. At this point the graphics card underperforms with some of today’s games but other than that has been a solid laptop to use. A good budget gaming laptop for games that don’t have heavy graphics requirements.

Acer's Mid-grade Laptop Attempt at Gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer - Nitro 5 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 - 1TB Hard Drive - Shale Black is Acer's mid-grade attempt at competing in the gaming laptop market. It offers a sleek design, touts impressive specs, and makes a strong argument for looking its way. While all the talk seems good, I found that the this Acer falls far short of what I have come to expect from a true gaming laptop. The 15.6" 1080p 4K screen seems small as it is dwarfed by the large bezel. The sound is good, but it is located in front but under the lip of the keyboard rather than on top so the sound is muddled at times. The Battery is far less than the up to 7 hours that I read about... the best I got was 3 hours. The keyboard is nice and easy to use, backlit and the WASD keys are highlighted for gaming purposes. I had good WiFi streaming and connectivity but did have a couple lag outs while playing a game so I am not sure if it was the game or the computer that could not keep up. My Internet is on a 250Gb service with a Gigabit MESH network for reference. PROS - Sleek, nice design - Clear picture and reactive display - An awesome cooling system does not overheat - Fast Connectivity - Intel Core 5, 7th Gen CONS - Does not compete with other high-end Gaming Laptops - Screen is lost in the bezel - Battery life is half of what is described

5 Years old going strong!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing Laptop. I bought it 5 years ago. Still works like brand new. Only issue is you can only cast it to one display via HDMI. Not compatible with any docking ports. It is not easily transportable but still a laptop.

This is an excellent gaming laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first major upgrade/purchase for 2019 and I have to say I love this computer. I usually use my Mac for work projects and surfing the web. I wanted a laptop to play games like Doom and Tomb Raider, something to take on the go if needed. I didn’t want to spend over $1000 and I had owned an excellent Acer machine some years ago. Acer definitely did not disappoint this time either. I love the look and feel of this laptop, every game that I’ve tried so far runs great, the graphics look fantastic, my next test will be playing VR games. I was able to install Microsoft Office in about 6 minutes. It comes with all of the needed ports and very useful software instead of the usual bloatware. You also get 30 days of Norton Antivirus. Much to my surprise it was also bundled with a neoprene case, It’s like Acer thought of everything, nice touch. I would definitely recommend this laptop to a friend and to any gaming enthusiast. Thank you Best Buy, I am a satisfied customer.

A good laptop but not enough for 4k editing.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good for the money. But not powerful enough for my needs.

Long Time Owner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't realize I have owned this laptop for almost 5 years. I'm now looking for a replacement because one hinge for the lid has broken and the processor has slowed significantly. I was not going to buy Acer again but maybe I should!

Junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this laptop because it seemed to have decent specs for the price. i5 8300U, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD (Where my Problem is), and a GTX 1050. Thermals are horrible on this computer if you use if for the intended purpose (Light Gaming), which I tried with Fortnite at lowest settings. You get into the game for about 30 minutes and the system starts thermal throttling. But I didn't buy this computer for gaming, as it had pretty decent specs and should have been more than powerful enough to do what I needed to do, the drive seems to have very poor IOP's on random reads and writes as you would sort of expect with a traditional HDD, but this drive seems even slower than what you would get with a traditional HDD. Could it be slower than a 5400RPM Drive? 5400RPM is the slowest drive you should see in any laptop, but this seems even slower than that because Windows 10 running by itself is utilizing 95% of the performance of the drive making the computer crawl if you tend to do anything that requires random reads and writes, like web browsing even. What I purchased this computer for is to run Docker containers to deploy a development environment on a budget for myself as I am a software engineer and my MacBook is 10 years old. The computer is incapable of running these containers (Which is like running a very-very light weight virtual machine). I will be returning this Junk tomorrow because it can barely do what it was designed to do in the first place!

Nice gaming laptop, Very Good Graphics chipset
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Able to play games on this laptop that my 2-in-1 windows machine just cannot handle at all. The bigger screen is better for games, though does make it less portable for day to day use. The sound is amazing, if i'm not mistaken it sounded like surround sound (front/back speakers) right on the laptop itself. No SSD in this model, but if i will just use for gaming is acceptable,

Great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is a great laptop for gaming. It can handle most games out today at medium quality. There are a couple of issues with this laptop. One is the backlit keyboard. It doesn't stay lit. It will turn off after being left idle for 30 seconds. It's a minor thing, you just need to hit any button on the keyboard and it'll turn back on. The other problem is a slightly larger one if you like to game on the go. The max battery life while gaming is roughly 3 hours. However if your like me and don't game while on the go I definitely recommend this laptop.

Great for Gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this computer for about a week now, and this computer definitely has the horsepower to keep up with AAA titles as well as esports titles. My experience has been great, it runs 60 fps in most games with the right settings.

AFFORDABLE GAMING TO GO
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i was shocked to see that even i can afford a laptop with acceptable specs for gaming in 2019. for what it attempts to accomplish, this laptop deserves full marks. duh, it gets hot. of course the battery doesnt last long using a discreet gtx 1050. if youre taking points off for that on a gaming laptop you can buy for $650, your expectations are kinda ridiculous. that keyboard takes a little getting used to, and the cursor touchpad is so mushy. also not things i care enough about to take points off the score. thanks to everyone involved. also a pleasant buying experience from BEST BUY

Pretty good so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a pretty standard basic gaming laptop for those on a budget. Nice screen, good resolution, etc. There are a few important issues off the bat though. One, the speakers are located on the underside of the laptop near the back so sound can be muffled if it's sitting down. Two, there is no option to have the keyboard backlight actually stay on. Acer just says to keep hitting a button combination or type. Three, the battery life is very overestimated. Website says 5 on average, I'm lucky to get two and thats hardly doing anything but browsing the web. Battery drains really quick and you'll need your power cord if you're going anywhere. Bear in mind I just got this today and isn't used so is very annoying having such a short lived power span. Overall it is ok for what I bought. Acer definitely needs to improve their batteries and at least be truthful in the power estimations.

Great buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought this laptop so that I could work on my video and picture editing. But I also got it to play games. The first one was slower than my 10 year old desktop computer, so I returned it and got another one. This one is fast, real fast. I'm very happy now.

Not bad...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is decent all around except that it has a really slow hard drive. The laptop however also has a M.2 slot soI got a 2x NVMe drive for it and after some trial and error I figured out how to get it working. This thing is really fast with a decent drive in it. The one thing to do with the laptop is to be sure and make the Acer restore drive. This thing has some custom programs in it such as the fan controller that wont work if you reinstall a generic windows iso and without the fan controller he machine will overheat.

No disk drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It runs fast and everything has a great memory but why in the world does a gaming computer not have a disk drive? I also do online school and now I cant install my Microsoft office I got at a massive discount through the college which sucks. Cant give it too bad of a review since it runs so well but seriously why doesnt a GAMING computer not have a disk drive. If I hadn't already transferred all my files I would return it.

Slower than 1st generation computers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The specs on this computer seem good for the $$ spent. Don’t be fooled. The supposed 7200 RPM hard drive runs slower than any previous hard drive I’ve had. The machine itself takes forever to boot up or even accomplish basic tasks. Add to that the frequent initial freezes and website not responding messages and I was about to throw it out. I went out and invested another $250 in a solid state drive and additional 8 GB of RAM and now the machine runs decently. Not a gamer but I can’t imagine attempting any real gaming on OEM set up.
