Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the Nitro 5's performance, especially its speed and gaming capabilities, and many find it offers good value for the price. However, customers are negative about the battery life and some report issues with fan noise and heat generation during intensive use. The relatively small storage capacity is another common concern. While some appreciate the keyboard, others find the laptop to be somewhat heavy.

Great entry level gaming laptop. Be sure to push power cable in all the way. (Read the other reviews) Expandable SSD storage bays and cable a plus.

Just make sur eyou download the NVIDIA software, and update that, but great streaming and performance, the only downfall is the 256GB SSD its small you want to at least have the 512GB or higher, but overall a great machine

It's pretty good for a gaming laptop, though it works great out of the box after a few months of using it has slowly started to be crap. Overall great gaming laptop, pretty bang for the buck!

A gaming machine? Where's the sound??

I'd really love to give this an excellent review but there is one essential feature that they seriously need to address... the volume! This computer is listed as a gaming computer... so where's the sound output? There are many people and videos that have talked about this flaw with this particular model number. I'm pretty tech-savvy so when I go into every sound app, app-related instrument panel, control panel, driver setup, YouTube help videos, Reddit forums, and still can't hear the sound even when I have it turned all the way up, that is a problem for me. It's pretty sad that when I use this computer, I have to shut all of my windows and turn off my dryer in order to hear this computer kick out some sound. I looked for a long time for something I could afford that had the features that I needed... I really like the fact that it has an extra connection for another internal SSD (hard drive), it has a light-up keyboard which is great because my vision isn't so great, it has a num-pad for quickly keying in figures, and some other basic essentials that are necessary before I'll consider buying a laptop. It really is too bad that the one thing that it lacks is such an important element. I'm a digital content creator, so if I can't hear my own voice on the videos I create, that leaves me pretty disgruntled (especially for a "gaming" machine). By the time I opened this up and found this out, it was too late to return it. I would have opened it as soon as I bought it but life got in the way for a while. I did buy some external speakers which allow me to hear, but that defeats the purpose of having a laptop... portability just took a dive out the window because it's hard to put external speakers in my back pocket.

This is a great laptop. The only problem I "had" with it was the keyboard backlight turning off. But a simple bios update let's you change that to where the backlight never turns off. This thing has 2 m.2 slots and one of them is already occupied. Strait out of the box, I had trouble powering it but you just have to push the charger in until you hear 2 clicks. Immediately after powering, I checked task manager and the ram was already half used, so buy more ram. I now have 32gbs ram and a m.2 1tb ssd from crucial. And a 500 gb HDD. Works perfectly.

Sure there are many laptops out there with better specs, but for lighter gaming like WoW or Fortnite you won't find better in this price range. Most with the same GPU run $100-$200 more. Computer is built well for the price, and does a great job of venting heat from GPU away from the laptop itself. One thing to note is the power supply runs very hot, so be careful where you place it. Other than that I have been pleasantly surprised with the quality.

I was interested in a budget friendly laptop that could be decent for gaming. This did a great job at it but once i determined that portability wasn't a huge need for me, i decided to swap it out with the 17.3" model which gave me more storage, larger screen and incrementally better graphics, it was also on clearance for the same price as the 15.6, otherwise its only $100 more. Both models are a great value at this price.

If you're looking for a computer for a less-than-excited-about-college teenager who wants a capable, yet fun, college laptop that doesn't break the bank and isn't nearly as heavy as other gaming laptops, this is great. It has a terrific specs at this price point, great screen, just-right size for a standard backpack, and an impressive battery. This is not a laptop to surprise your teenager who has a $5k gaming desktop at home. It doesn't compare. This is a portable compromise for those who need to be PRODUCTIVE and occasionally enjoy the occasional PC game, with good graphics. Good buy!
