To be honest, I have been let down by a few of these latest gaming laptops. The last one I used was a well known brand. Which looked cool, but the machine was really trying too hard to keep up. Now enter this Acer Helios line. It has a few aesthetic things to make it looks gamer cool, but I don't need that personally. However, this machine has kept up with everything we threw at it and with flying colors. Speaking of which, the screen is super nice to look at when gaming. The speakers are decent and loud but to be honest, I use a gaming headset anyway. But it's nice to know the sound is there if I needed it. The only little niggle or negative I can say, and it is nitpicking, is that the number pad layout has a bit of a learning curve to operate. While the normal zero key is there, it is shrunken down to like the other numbers. Also, the numbers lock key is also moved over to accommodate the Predator key. I love the one push access to your settings, especially right before going into a game. As for the keyboard layout, it is RGB and backlit with some preloaded patterns, which is awesome to look at. Also this machine has a color bar right beneath the front lip of the keyboard section of the laptop. Overall, looks great. Another fantastic thing about this machine is that it comes with a carrying case. I have not seen any other brand that does this. The gameplay is super responsive and the fans are not as loud IMO. There is a setting that you can blast the fans and can get super loud, but I have never heard it go that loud. There are enough ports for my usage and nice to know there is a thunderbolt port on it. So far, it is a beast of a machine and has lived up to it's specs.

Great gaming PC - wish the 240hz screen was bigger

Have owned multiple gaming laptops in my past and was really excited to try this one out. Loved the box / how it came. Very easy set up process. This thing is lightening fast with 240Hz screen which provides a crystal clear image with no buffering during live gaming. Intel Core i7 - 16GB which is now top of the line and provides plenty of room to download your favorite PC games. Comes with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti which is the best in class graphics card. The colors pop on this thing! Whether you play offline/MMR type games or online battle royal, this PC will keep up with anything you play! Was surprised how small the screen is on this laptop. I wish it had a bigger screen given the 240hz refresh rate. I sadly have to plug it into a 144hz monitor so not getting the full potential of the PC. I casually watch videos / twitch online and no issues with buffering. No 'skips' or tearing when playing Apex on full graphics which is a first for me. I would highly recommend this laptop to any level of gamer.

I really like this Predator Helios! I have been using for nearly 2 weeks and have had zero problems. I am very impressed with the build and design. Installed Steam, GOG and Epic and tested several games. All ran at 1440 without issue. The 3070 Ti seems to be a great match for a 1440 laptop screen. The screen is excellent and 2560x1440 at 15.6 is an excellent resolution for gaming, browsing and work. G-sync 240 Hz screen with good color and viewing angles. Can connect to external monitors via HDMI or Thunderbolt without issue. I have a 17 inch FHD Samsung G-sync and while the built in screen is smaller, I prefer the better resolution and the simplicity of having a cleaner desk and less cords. 1 TB SSD which is quite responsive. Wifi works well and also has wired ethernet port (killer) on left side which I prefer. USB A on both sides plus usb-c on back (yes you can charge but if gaming the supplied brick is over 200 W). Headset jack on left. All of these have worked well so far. Sound is fine but not very loud (especially if playing game and cooling fans spinning). Tested audio with headset and quality was good. I like the keyboard and the programmability of the lighting as well as the touchpad and build quality. Acer was always a value brand and outside of a lower end laptop I have not seen an Acer of this quality in about 10 years. I am glad to see Acer can again make such a quality unit.

Great Display, Solid Construction, Few Compromises

This laptop strikes a nice balance with a quality build, fantastic display, descent performance, and a nice array of ports. Let's start out with what is arguably the highlight of this laptop - the display - it's fantastic. The QHD display has rich and vibrant colors, deep blacks, and it's just a great viewing experience. It may be "only" a QHD display but honestly, I didn't really notice the difference between this and some 4K displays. Don't shy away from this because it isn't 4K. This 240hz display is great. And it's also plenty bright. The bezel surrounding the display is somewhat pronounced on the bottom though but I'm guessing that may have something to do with the form factor of the base. The overall construction is rock solid. There is no flex to the display, it both looks and feels premium, and they did a great job with the design which is pretty subdue with just a small, metallic Predator logo on the lid and another inside. The gaming performance with the 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti was a great experience with games like Far Cry 6 and GTA V. I had zero complaints even at some of the higher settings. And of course, having the number pad is a huge plus. I use this to edit videos and found the performance with Adobe Premiere Pro to be very good where it scrubbed through 4K video with ease. Even tossing two 4K clips side-by-side was no problem. And exports were also very respectable compared to a higher power machine I have. The touchpad is also fantastic. Very responsive, predictable, and honestly one of the best I've used on a Windows machine. I'm pretty picky about the trackpad experience on laptops and I can't complain about it at all - it's really very good. Oh, and a nice touch is that there's a polished edge around the trackpad. The key feel of the RGB keyboard is good where the keys are positive without being clicky. You can adjust the settings of the RGB pattern for different "wavelengths" if you will, where it's basically different speeds at which the RGB pattern moves across the keyboard. Sadly, unless I missed something, you can't set it to just be on all-the-time and not have a light pattern. It has a good array of ports with 2 USB A on the right side, 1 USB A on the left along with an ethernet port and headphones. On the back there ports for power, HDMI, USB C, and DisplayPort. Love the fact that the HDMI and DisplayPort are on the back but I wish the USB C was on the side. The speakers are the weak point though on this laptop where I was expecting a bit better based on the size and weight of this laptop. I would have thought there would be enough room to fit in some descent sound but found the sound to be a bit hollow, however it they can get pretty loud. I think a lot of us may use gaming headsets or speaker systems when we're gaming so this may not be that big of a deal but if you're relying on the built-in speakers for most of your gaming, you may be left wanting more. For weight, it comes in around 5.7lbs which isn't necessarily light for this class and it also has a substantial power brick so keep that in mind if you're bringing this with you. I'm impressed by the performance, the construction, the trackpad, and the display. A really good experience using this laptop and for me, I use a headset when I'm gaming and hook it up to speakers when I'm viewing movies or editing videos, so the sub-par speakers aren't a big deal for me.

    Acer Laptop Very Surprised

Overall solid Laptop. High resolution display paired with a workhorse 3070ti can breeze through all modern games at max or near max settings. I personally used the native display for a few weeks before using the laptop as a powerplant. Internal fans can get a little loud to combat your typical laptop heating. Pairing this with a GT500 laptop cooler both solves heating and dampens fan noise. It's really nice to see Acer stepping up and competing with the big boys.

Built way better than other top specs 2022

first I had the tuf line, than iI had the zephryus. I got rid of both of them on a whim in one of the stores because this laptop sold me on something other high spec laptops do not have. Rigidity. This is one of the only laptops with these specs that has a nice solid chasis. Its not too heavy, its not massive, and its not a fireball on your lap. The only thing they could have done better on this machine was the touchpad travel, it jiggles when you press it quick. But I can live with that being that every other laptop with similar specs has very little to offer at this price tag. it also has a number pad which others dont offer this feature. The individual rgb is nice to have also. unlike the zephryus you can actually see the light coming through the keys. the speakers go pretty loud, much louder than its competitors but not quite as loud as msi laptops usual speaker setup. I stepped down from a 12gen i9 for this i7 because of the laptop build itself. Its worth the 2k. This is a "Brute in a suit" & doesn't weigh a ton.

Warning about ACER as a brand... do a quick google search on "screen flickering" problems and see for yourself. LOTS of people, brand new, a year out, the screen starts failing. it's a design flaw that has been completely ignored by ACER when they should have recalled and done a redesign but didn't. now large numbers of people are having screen issues including myself. it's a pain man. word of warning. They obviously took shortcuts in design and that is why it doesn't hold up long. Full disclosure, I bought my helios 300 in 2020 brand new on amazon. it worked great when it worked, than inexplicably after barely any time, failed. screen began flickering like crazy and having major issues. acer community forum has plenty of testimony on this issue yet they still downplay it with their customers whom are now desperate for help. This is what is known as terrible customer service. Acer is riding on reputation of the past and that's it. their quality has dropped to dogsh** don't waste your money like so many already have.
