My 10 year old son loves his chrome book. He uses it for home work and games and internet

Cute and lightweight but chrome just isn’t windows. I bought this hoping I could use it as a small easy on the go “laptop” but it is definitely a chrome book and the two have very different uses. For the money, it is a cute useable chrome book but if you are looking for off line availability and use - you won’t be as happy.

I've been using this Acer R 11 Chromebook for about a week, and so far, I'm very happy with it. So long as one has reasonable expectations, this would be a fantastic product for many buyers. Let me say that any Chromebook is *not* going be able to replace a desktop computer or a full-powered notebook for heavy-duty content creators. If you want every feature in a major productivity suite (e.g. Microsoft Office), or need to install software that's not available as a web-based option, this just isn't going to cut it. However, if you could benefit from a competitively priced, lightweight, convenient device for web browsing, messaging, consuming media, and/or viewing and moderate editing of documents, then the Acer R 11 could make a great addition to your digital toolkit. Here are some examples of tasks that the Acer R 11 Chromebook has handled as well, or even better, than my traditional notebook computer: - Streaming video, either on the R 11's own HD screen or to our TV via the Chromecast device - Online voice and video calls using Google Hangouts - Browsing and editing photos stored in the cloud, on both Google Photos and other online storage services - Opening and light editing of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, either with Google's own suite of web-based applications or the online versions of Microsoft Office Performance-wise, the R 11 has been pretty peppy and responsive. The speakers are decent enough, but if you're particular about your audio, you can use external speakers (via wire or Bluetooth). Startup is consistently less than 15 seconds to a working browser window. There have been times when I've had 6 or 7 tabs open at once, including a couple of web apps. When that happens, things do slow down a bit. Closing those tabs that I'm not actively using seems to solve the problem. The convertible form factor is pretty cool, but I'm not sure how often I'll really use it. I find it a bit strange that in tablet mode, the keyboard is exposed on the backside. I may occasionally use the "tent" mode for viewing things like recipes on the kitchen counter top, but I think my R 11 will spend most of its time in the traditional notebook computer configuration. The device feels fairly well constructed, but keep in mind the low price point. Even with the textured aluminum panels, this is not going to compete with expensive devices that highlight premium finishes and the like.

This is a great tool to use when needing technology! It is well used daily.
