      Dear NoChrome,

Chromebooks are different from standard laptop products in that they are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and documents living in the cloud. Because of this they don’t have much for on board storage but they also are not expensive either. If you need to use third party software applications that must be installed on the computer, a Chromebook is likely not for you, where a Windows laptop would suit you better. If you are having specific problems with the Parental Controls we would be happy to help you. If you are located in the US or Canada please fill out this form so that we can assist you:

I only bought it because it was a school requirement, I find it very expensive for a Chromebook, in other words a device that only comes with the technology for online work. It is also slow regardless of the type of Internet connection that I use.

    BANG for YOUR buck

Freshman year my dad gave me an hp laptop. It was huge. Way to big for what I needed it for, but I was very thankful. I used it for two years until I just decided that I seriously needed a change. Something lighter for sure. While looking at BestBuy I found this Chromebook, and I instantly fell in love. Then, after looking at the reviews I was very convinced. Boy, am I glad that I got this Acer Chromebook. Its great for any student for a few reasons. First, it is super easy to use. Second, you will probably use google docs a ton in college and if you don't then you will use Word (which you can get online so that's not a problem). Third, it is GREAT for watching Netflix, or whatever is your drug of choice during your downtime. Fourth, it is very fast at switching inbetween web pages and such. Fifth, it's light and about a thousand dollars cheaper than a macbook air. Sixth, the keyboard doesn't ( in my opinion) have a lot of unecessary keys. The only con for me is that there is no backlight on the keyboard.

Overall Great Choice for the Money

After doing quite a bit of research I had narrowed my choices down to the Acer R11 and the Asus C101PA. Both models had been recently updated and now both appeared to have similar internal storage, system memory, convertible touch screens and similar processors. Most of my research showed that the Intel processor in the Acer R11 was somewhat more robust than the Asus, and from my experience I can say that the Intel Celeron plus the 4gb of memory does what I need it to, which is mainly web browsing, video playback and general reference work. Comparatively I will say the Asus is a much sleeker Chromebook. Acer really could have put a little more effort in to the design, look and feel of this machine. All around a solid Chromebook for the money. I would recommend for the price. Rating a 4/5 with the only detractors being the bulky body for this machine along with the slightly lower resolution 1366x768 display resolution.

After purchasing 3 samsung chromebooks in the past (2 for family members) and being incredibly happy with them, I expected similar results based on the specs and operating system, however, this device was useless. It froze constantly (every 30mins at least) and could only be unfrozen by full shut down and reboot. After just 5 days and trying many tweaks I returned it.

The Chromebook will support printers that are Cloud Ready. Chromebooks are different from standard laptop products in that they are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and documents living in the cloud. My husband originally ordered me a dell inspiron 11 for my birthday. I started using it and could barely do anything because it was SO SLOW. Like 30 seconds after I typed something, It would register I was typing. After doing some research and chatting with someone at Best Buy, I decided on the chromebook. Chromebooks seemed to have great reviews for what I wanted: something to do homework, send emails and browse on. This specific chromebook had amazing user reviews...which is why I went for it. I can honestly say: It is five stars! I've had it for about a week, but LOVE it. The touch screen, the app feature, everything! It took a minute to adjust to the chromebook (no downloads), but now that I'm getting the hang of it, I actually really love it. I use the touchscreen more than I ever thought I would. The screen is super clear and crisp too. Would definitely recommend this guy! Super happy with it!

First of all, I am no stranger to chromebooks, as well as computers period! That being said as far as Chromebooks, I have owned one since 2013, and then bought a newer one (Acer R13) which I found adequate as far as speed and tasks, but a bit heavy and cumbersome to move from place to place if I was taking it anywhere....Then I discovered th Acer R-11, and it has been the answers to all my computer needs! Fast, light, great screen, responsive touch screen, and Android apps compatible ! I use this for typing out documents, surfing the web, doing social media, Netflix, listening to music, and playing a game or two in my spare time! It has handled every task that I have thrown at it! The battery life is very good, and it charges very quickly! If there was one down side it is that the touch pad is not to responsive, and even after making adjustments to it in the Chrome settings, I still don't care for it! my solution was to purchase a small wirerless mini mouse, and it works perfectly!! So I would say if you are looking for a good Chromebook, at a very good price, then go for the R-11

Just picked this up and so far love it. Keyboard is easy to type on. The internet is quick loading. I have downloaded a bunch of apps and they run great (from music apps to games). You can pay for Word online and download the app, if necessary— but you can also use google docs and convert it to a word document for emailing purposes. The rotating screen is nice and easy and turns it into a tablet. No back lighting or caps lock, but you can choose a key to assign as caps lock if you like. It’s exactly what it says it is, and it does it well. So far I am very happy with my purchase! ** only giving 4 stars because the white/black and chunky look of it is a bit off putting. But it’s light!

As an avid Apple product user, I was extremely hesitant to purchase a Chromebook. I was looking at spending $900 on a MacBook Air, because we already have a MacBook, and an iMac desktop that I love. The last time I purchased a laptop for the price, it was one of the tiny Acer laptops. I was very disappointed and frustrated with how slow it was. From the very first use, it ran as though it were 10 years old with a hard drive at capacity and trying to run 10 programs at once, though I was only trying to get on the internet. The Chromebook is night and day. I'm notorious for having 10 tabs on the internet open at once and toggling between them as I do my research for assignments. This Chromebook does not hesitate!! The operating system has taken a little getting used to. I went to my local Best Buy store where this Chromebook was on display to make sure it would be a purchase I would be comfortable with. I also logged into my student portal at the store to make sure that I would not have any issues with the technological specifications. I love that I have the option of using it as a traditional laptop but also have the added ability of being able to touch the screen to perform actions interchangeably. My textbooks are available online so to be able to "convert" my laptop into a tablet is also useful. Cannot recommend this Acer touchscreen Chromebook enough! As long as your needs are as basic as mine for school, you will love it. I don't require much hard drive space because my music and videos are on my desktop computer. My Chromebook is used for internet usage and writing papers and works like a dream.

    Just what I needed

This is my first Chromebook. Having owned many Windows and one Mac, I didn't quite know what to expect from Google but I knew my expectations were on the lower end for this price point. This Chromebook is littered with so many positive reviews it'd be hard to not give it a chance. I snagged it while it was on a sale for $50 off plus I had a $10 certificate which made the deal even sweeter. Pros - Looks great, feels tough and built well. Far speedier than I imagined and the battery lasts long. Can't believe they even included a camera and mic. Cons - One of the primary reasons I got this was to play some online poker and I discovered you cannot install .exe files without some sort of severe workaround. Understand the limitations of a Chromebook before rushing out and buying it. Luckily a lot of poker companies operate browser based poker as well now. If you're just using the internet, email, some basic productivity apps and maybe a little more, you won't go wrong with this Chromebook! I'm a very happy customer!

    5 stars is not enough

I own a variety of notebooks, tablets, and smartphones, but was looking for something that could replace both my iPad Air 2 AND my 11.6" Macbook Air for mobile computing. Having tried and dismissed the Microsoft Surface RT and 2, my next option was a 2-in-1 chromebook. After much research, it became obvious that the Acer R11 was the best 2-in-1 chromebook for the money and with specs respectable enough to give the platform a decent evaluation. After spending extensive time with it, I can confirm that it is true. Others have gone into great details on the hardware so I won't go over how good the hardware is. But I will say what a joy it is to have a full complement of full-sized ports. For my purposes, those are well worth the increased thickness of the chassis. But I will focus on some things that haven't been covered... the R11 supports presentation remote controls (Powerpoint-specific controls) like those produced by Targus (using a proprietary USB receiver). This allows for the R11 to be a presentation powerhouse. Google Slides supports my Targus presentation remote wonderfully. The R11 also supports the Logitech USB game controller. Right out of the box, I could use the game controller to play games and retro game emulators. Support for Android apps is as good as it gets (with the current chrome OS support for Android). A serious limitation of Android support on chromebooks is the "sandboxing" of storage between the Android subsystem and chromeOS... the only commonly accessible area in the filesystem is the "Download" folder. But for apps that don't require local storage or can store data in the cloud, this is not an issue. I'm very impressed with the capabilities and performance of the R11, and with a few exceptions, it can easily act as a netbook and Android tablet. The Android-based comic book reader (cbz/cbr) that I use turns the R11 into a neat reader capable of displaying vintage magazine, comic, and catalogs (like Sears, Montgomery Ward, etc.). If anyone is considering purchasing an R11 but is not familiar with chromebooks, I highly recommend doing research first as well as being prepared to "think different" about how they accomplish the tasks they need to on a notebook/tablet. Often it is possible to take a different approach to accomplish the same tasks. Think about WHAT needs to get done instead of HOW it was done in the past. The time invested to really get to learn this device is time well spent and most likely will result in a very pleasant experience.

This is a great 2-1. Touch screen is excellent. Screen is nice and clear. I paid $219 on sale. Originally, I was going to purchase a regular chromebook but Im glad I picked this up. I added extra 32gb ultra fit ubs drive, I now have extra storage. Computer speed is pretty good. I expected to be much slower but for web surfing, youtube and typing, there's no problem what this laptop can do. I love folding this like a tablet to watch my shows on HBO NOW, HULU, and Netflix. Is a neat 2-1 computer. HDMI is nice and clear on TV. I use this option to project my movies on my big screen and is perfect. Overall, I can use word for work, watch movies, surf the web and work on small project, Im very pleased. Is not Apple macbook quality but for the price I paid, you can't beat it.
