Great for the basics. I prefer LR for photo editing, but needed an editor for sublimation printing. Way better than using Silhouette software, which I dong use anyway, but I know a lot of sinners who do. Color printing for subbing is great.

Once I got the free online manual I was fine otherwise fairly lost. There is a learning curve. You can do so much to spruce up your photos. This new version has haze removal which is great. You can also add depth of field. Put an image in another photo. Take things out like someone who walked in an otherwise great shot.

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve updated Photoshop Elements on my computer. So many, in fact, that I didn’t even have Elements installed. When I recently had the opportunity to pick up the 2018 version, I figured that maybe it was time for me to see how Elements has changed. Installation took a while (it’s a 5.1 GB program) but went smoothly. I experienced no problems during installation, and appreciated that Adobe offers the opportunity to install either from the DVD or by downloading it from Adobe’s servers. That’s a great option with fewer and fewer laptops coming with optical drives these days (or if you just don’t feel like dealing with the disc). I decided to start with the Organizer. I’ve been using a free tool for this task for some time now, so I was interested to see how the new Elements would compare. Overall, I think Elements is the better organizer and its integration with the editor is excellent. I had over 37,000 photos to import, which took a while, but that’s to be expected. One thing I really liked about the organizer was the ability to tag photos to a location on the map. Elements offers a lot of ways to tag your photos to make it easier to find them later. With as many photos as I have, this is a great feature that I’m looking forward to exploring. On the editing side of things, Elements offers three modes: Quick, Guided and Expert. Quick mode is where you’ll old standby adjustments like Smart Fix, exposure, lighting, color, balance and sharpening. A great feature that was new to me was the ability to see a side-by-side view of the before and after. This is a great way to see the impact of the changes you’re making and undo them if necessary. Guided mode walks you through making changes like replacing the background, changing the depth of field, or changing the composition of the photo. This mode makes it easy to do some things that previously would have been considered difficult. It’s really just a repackaging of the tools, but this is great when you just want to get it done. Expert mode is what you would think it should be: you’re the expert, so you do it all yourself with the wide variety of tools available in the program. It’s clear that there is a huge amount of depth in this program, and it’s going to take me a long time to get through it all. What’s great about that is that Adobe has provided a wealth of helps, both in the documentation as well as the wonderful eLive mode. This is where you can find help for what you’re trying to do, as well as getting ideas and guidance on new techniques. This is a wonderful resource and one that I’m sure I’ll spend a lot of time with. Making minor adjustments is easy to do, and this has always been a strength of the program. The ability to get rid of red eye, whiten teeth or open closed eyes is very cool and can help you salvage a photo that might otherwise be a loss. I did find it frustration, however, to try to go deeper without the knowledge and experience to do so. In other words, I was hoping that things like replacing the background would be easier to do with this version. I tried to use the magic lasso tool, but could never really select what I was trying to select. Perhaps I’ll be able to do this with more study and practice, but in my opinion, this is the kind of thing that an editor should make easier. This just points out that there is a huge amount of capability hidden in this program, and will reward those with the perseverance to figure it out. Overall, I think Photoshop Elements 2018 is a good value, and gives the user a powerful set of tools for managing and improving their photo collection. You can often find Elements on sale, so if it’s been a while since you’ve upgraded, now’s the time to pick this up. If you have the prior version, I’m not sure there’s enough new stuff here to justify the upgrade, but you should at least check it out.

Photoshop Elements 2018 - Mac|Windows. I have it on both a Windows PC and my iMac. I really like the menu selections. This is a very big step from Photoshop on my PC from 5 years ago! So user-friendly and the color clarity is very vivid.

Have tried to install this 5 times and finally called Geek Squad and spent 2 hours on the phone with them only to have them tell us that we need to take it back and exchange it. Had PhotoShoppe 6 for 12 years with no problems, till we got a new computer with Windows 10.

A lot of new enhancements, need to take some tutorials to find where things are. I have had several versions of photoshop before this one which were all basically the same layout. This version is a bit different.

A wonderful product. Has guided modes that allow quick wonderful results without much natural skill. The advanced mode has differences from previous versions but with just a little exploring (or a good book!) you can get (re)familiar fairly quickly.

I take a lot of pictures. A lot. For fun, for work, for hobbies, you name it. I am always documenting something from my life. As such, I also spend a fair amount of time editing, collating, and organizing all those photos. For years, that has meant using an old, old, did I mention old, version of Photoshop CC. I like what Adobe brings to the table, and while I am an active user, it was hard for me to spend the money for the full suite with the subscription model. It is something I contemplate each year, but I never really considered making the move to Photoshop Elements. Finally, that has changed. I could not be more pleased. While I am by no means an “expert,” I am fairly experienced with photo editing. That was always one of my concerns, that the program would be limited, or restrictive in what one could do. I have found that is not the case. It is true that Elements does not have “everything” that full Photoshop does; however, I think most nonprofessionals will be satisfied with all that the program DOES offer. Simply, there are a vast amount of editing resources at your fingertips. I think one of the best aspects of the program is the user interface. There are three user levels or modes for editing: Quick, Guided and Expert. Here, the product really shines, as all levels of skill are covered. Those new to photo editing can get the help they need, while those that are more familiar can quickly and easily navigate through the program to accomplish tasks. The layout was updated from what I was used to (again, I was using such dated software) but I had no trouble handling everything I typically do. I do have a “system” I use for organizing and archiving my photos, I have used it for some time, but I am impressed with Elements Organizer. It is, well, an organizer for your photo collection. You can sort, tag, arrange, etc.…all your photos. I like what I see here, and to change will be a big commitment, but I am at least considering. I did not expect that. Given the trend in the software world towards subscription based models, I think I should briefly touch upon the value presented with Photoshop Elements. For many people, the subscription model does not work. Either they do not use the software regularly, they are not and have no desire to become versed in the software, or simply, it is too expensive. Further, to purchase a full version of Photoshop upfront is even more costly. In that reality, Photoshop Elements is quite a value. The price is quite competitive to a Photoshop subscription, is a one-time fee, and, quite frankly, as I mentioned previously, the software provides a wealth of features that should please most users. Ultimately, I have no problem recommending Photoshop Elements to nearly everyone. Some, mainly professionals with targeted needs may want more, but Elements is intuitive, feature-rich, a high-quality photo-editing solution and a tremendous value.

I picked up Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 mostly for the Organizer component. I had previously gone through the task of face tagging several thousand photos with Google Picasa. Since Google Picasa is no longer supported/offered, I finally decided to move to Adobe. Even though both Google and Adobe are part of Metadata Working Group, their implementations of face tagging metadata seems to be different enough that Adobe Photoshop Elements cannot read the data. To top it off, Google Picasa defaulted to writing the data to a single .ini file and writing to individual files was deemed experimental. So I'm a little disappointed in both sides. Adobe Organizer seems slower at analyzing faces. It seems prone to locking up my system when throwing almost 100,000 images at it. But if I remember, Picasa locked up my system as well. Luckily, the analysis will resume after I return to Adobe Organizer. However, I am now confident that once I tag the photos, it will persist in future Adobe products. Using the power of machine learning, Adobe Organizer is jumping into letting the computer try to select the best images of all your photographs. This allows the computer to work through hundreds of images and select the handful of images that are the best. It may not be perfect, but I like where this is going. I also did a little research on the Terms and Conditions on Adobe Photoshop Elements. It indicates I can install on a laptop device and on a desktop device so long as I am not running Photoshop Elements on both systems at the same time. I have a decent desktop that helps me power through the facial analysis. I am also more comfortable when using a desktop with the larger screen. I have a Windows Surface like device with Pen Input and I wanted to see if I could use the pen to allow fine control over edits. Unfortunately, this will not work as I had hoped. Simply hovering the pen over the screen is treated as input. Again, I cannot fault Adobe on this. If I want to have fine pen control, I should invest in a Wacom device. Onto the main program...Adobe Photoshop Elements is great for the amateur photographer to edit photos. What's special about the 2018 version is that it offers a walkthrough of many common editing scenarios. The walkthroughs are simple and get the job done. If the photo still isn't to your liking, you can jump into more advanced modes easily and edit to your liking. This feature is great for people like me who want to learn how to edit photos. One of the neat features is 'Open Closed Eyes'. Using two photos of the same person, it can take the open eyes from one photo and seamlessly blend into the photo where the person has closed eyes, thus opening previously closed eyes. I had seen some of this work with my android phone, I'm glad that this feature is now I can control. With Adobe Photoshop Elements, I am excited to learn how to edit photos.
