Great Device to Measure Overall Home Air Quality

In my review of the Airthings - Wave Plus Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor with Radon Detection, I give it a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is my first use of any Air Quality and Radon monitor. This is a multifaceted monitor that measures, Radon, CO2, Humidity, Temperature, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and Air pressure. The unit resembles a smoke detector and pairs via Bluetooth to your smart device to the Airthings Wave App. It is powered by two AA batteries so no need to be restricted to an AC outlet. This biggest draw to have this product is to measure Radon, CO2, and VOCs. These are detrimental items to negatively impact one’s health. The other items of Humidity, Temperature, and Air Pressure lean more toward measurements consistent with a weather station device. The Airthings Wave App pulls all the data together into a landing page, giving a summary of all six items of detection and their specific units of measurement. There is also an overall air quality rating with corresponding color code of Green, Yellow, Red equating to Good, Fair, and Poor, respectively. You can click on each of the six items to obtain a line graph spanning timeframes of 48 Hours, Week, Month, and Year. I see a lot of benefits to have a product such as this. The only reason I deducted 1-star from the rating was that this device connects to your smart device via Bluetooth only, with no options for Wi-Fi. Consumers like to have visibility to their Smart Home connected devices from anywhere in their lives and feel Airthings fell short here. I hope you enjoyed my review and it helped you in your purchasing decision of this product.

Having an air quality monitor has given me more peace of mind than I thought it might. Just having this sitting quietly, inconspicuously, monitoring the air quality, especially since I just moved into a new place, is really nice. Setup couldn't have been easier either. Install the app, pull the tab from the battery compartment to power it up, pair it with your phone, and you're all done. You can leave it flat on a table somewhere, or mount it on a wall. With the Radon sensor, I thought putting this in the basement might be a good idea, but the website says you should put this in your main living space, or where you're spending most of your time, because you want to be monitoring the air you are breathing regularly, which makes sense. So I put in in my living room, and let it start monitoring. The VOC and Carbon Dioxide (not Monoxide, please do not use this in place of a carbon monoxide detector) sensors take a week to calibrate, the temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure sensors are pretty much ready to go out of the box. The Radon sensor they say takes a week minimum, but for most accurate results, needs a month for calibration. But, you don't need to keep track of these things, because you'll get some emails about the sensors, with links to more details about what they mean (particularly Radon) and then an email after your 1 week of calibration is done. Of course, you'll also get an email if one of the values is outside the recommended range (for me, it's mostly been CO2 too high). This doesn't have wifi (it's only powered by 2 AA batteries after all), but the app on your phone will still upload the data to Airthings website so you can always check and monitor from your computer as well (and see historical data). So, if you're concerned about indoor air quality, and want continuous monitoring, this works great.

My new Airthings smart indoor air quality and radon monitor gives me a little peace of mind that the air I am breathing is safe. 20 years ago I was exposed to a dangerously high radon levels for an unknown extended period of time. This makes me higher risk for lung cancer and I am a non smoker. Not a day goes by that I don't worry about my lung health. Add a pandemic and I think everyone can agree that knowledge of the air we breath is as important as ever. I work from home and spend 95% of my life there. I can't take chances with my air. The Wave Plus is super simple to set up. Download the app, pull the tab on the provided batteries, connect and easily mount with the provided screw or place. The unit needs 7 days to get accustomed to your air and calibrate, but then you can see your various air metrics, current and past, like Carbon dioxide, radon, and other airborne chemicals within the app with links to explain what they mean and suggestions on how to fix the problems with simple solutions like opening a window, running ventilation, or closing windows or doors when grilling outside. This Airthings Wave Plus is invaluable. It should be mandatory like smoke alarms. I wish this existed 20 years ago, but I am happy to have it now to keep my family safe from additional unseen exposures.

The weather app has always told me the quality of air in our area wasn't great, so I was very excited to test out this air sensor to see the details of our air quality. The Airthings really does it all in terms of air quality monitoring. Everything from Radeon to pollen all in a very small and easy to use package. Using the sensor is super easy. It has several ways to interact. You can see the lights on the front that tell you the general quality of the air from green, yellow, to red. There is also an app that gives you very detailed readi gs of the quality of your air and how it changes over time. The biggest benefit I've found in this sensor is it's ability to track Radoen levels in our area. This gas has no oder but is a leading cause for lung cancer, so being able to track levels in our area has given much a huge piece of mind. It works with all the smarthome ecosystems you can think of. Letting you use voice commands to check quality and work with you existing smart home system. Overall I love the product. It's simple, easy to use and gives you all the info you'd need about your air quality in a super easy to use interface.

Packaging was secure and well designed, an indicator of quality to come. Setup was very easy. Downloading the app and pulling the tab isolating the battery I was done in a few minutes. There are a couple of readings which require the unit to calibrate over the course of about a week. Here is where I found something exceptional. I got two messages from Laoise regarding the unit. The first was a reminder that I could check the air quality using my phone and that some sensors were still calibrating. Along with that was very helpful information about each kind of situation the unit would monitor. Really, I was impressed by the helpfulness of this message. The information was easy to read and interesting too. Later I got another message informing me that all sensors should be sending reliable data. All of that was welcome but I had to read twice and a third time the part that said "you can reply to this email or chat using the airthings app" With most notifications being a sales pitch and "no reply" this was welcome. As it turns out I didnt have any questions but it was nice to know they seem to really want you to feel confident about the device and how to use it. As far as functionality I no reason not to trust the readings at this point. The unit is small and blends into the space where it is installed which is in the basement where it is nice to have a constant radon detector. All in all I am very happy to have this in my home to ensure that everything is safe and sound as far as the atmosphere is concerened.

Good device for reading Radon levels

The Airthings - Wave Plus Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor with Radon Detection is good device for checking Radon levels in your home. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Having a device like this helps in knowing if the radon levels in your home are dangerous. The setup process is fairly simple, but I did run into a few issues during setup. When I got to the setup process of pairing the Airthings Wave app to my Wave Plus, it failed to connect. It actually failed tree times, prior to finally being able to pair to it. There was also an update which took well over 10 minutes before I was able to use the device. Once everything was setup and up and running, I was able to navigate through the app and view its features. The Wave Plus is able to detect Radon, VOC, CO2, Humidity, Temp, and Pressure readings. I installed mine in the basement. This will allow it to detect Radon levels, which might be more prevalent, while also being able to read the humidity. High humidity readings will let me know if I need a dehumidifier in my basement. The app is easy to navigate and everything is easy to read. The Wave Plus also allows you to test air quality without having to open up the app Just simply wave your hand across the front of the Wave Plus. It will illuminate either a green, yellow, or red LED light. Green is for Good, Yellow for Fair, and Red for Poor. Overall, I’m glad I have this device to test Radon levels.

The Wave Plus Smart monitor is very easy to set up and very easy to use pairing with your phone for easy access to the results. To get started you can put the monitor wherever you want in the house and just pull the strip from the battery contact and your live. The pairing with the phone is quick and only took one attempt for me. Then the next instruction is to leave it sit for 7 days to calibrate in your home. On the 7th day I received an e-mail that "Today is the day!" as it was finished calibrating. The monitor can quickly be checked manually by waving your hand over the sensor and it will light up green, yellow or red. Then open up the app and see a summary on the dashboard of the 6 measurements. Click on the circle in the app and it takes you into the individual measurements with graphs for Radon, VOCS, CO2, Humidity, Temperature, and Pressure. The graphs are also color coded and show 48 hours, week, month, and year intervals. Its only been a week so we'll see how things continue on the measurements. The Radon started out all over the place but has now seemed to stabilize with a trend of safe levels. So I think I will chalk that up to the calibration week before reacting to any of the Radon measurements. Overall the monitor is very simple and easy to use.

It works well. It is not terribly difficult to hook up. I have not gotten a bunch of alerts which I consider to be a good thing. It’s one of those things that is kind of hard to test to make sure it is working. It is a strong concept. In current times with so many people being health conscious it is nice to have ways to make sure we are not inadvertently poisoning ourselves. I look at it the same way I look at a smoke detector, I hope I never need it but will be glad it is there if something becomes an issue. Seeing as things like carbon monoxide and radon have no scent it is nice to know that there is something to alert me to their presence if they ever enter my home. I live by the motto it is better to be safe then sorry. I have loved all of these years without it and would probably be fine without it, but I would prefer a warning prior to an unpleasant medical diagnosis. Nothing is fool proof but it is worth a shot. More information is better then not having the ability to interpret the world around us.

It takes seven days for the air monitor to calibrate to your space to for accurate readings. The app is very user friendly, giving clear readings, simple tips and advice as to how to regulate and improve the air quality of your living space. No bigger than a light switch, this monitor is the right size to fit in with the aesthetic of your home. Installation is quick, the monitor includes batteries, magnetic plate, and mount screw. Make sure you mount it within the average "breathing height" of your household for accurate readings. One thing I noticed during the calibration period, the sensor is highly sensitive which makes for good accuracy of conditions in the installed area. However, it can't read the air quality of any extended rooms. It is recommended to install away from windows and doors so as to not to contaminate the calibration of the monitor. If you want to read different rooms, more monitors will need to be purchased. Giving it 5 stars for convenient installation and peace of mind with the quality of the air in my home.

Very pleased with Airthings sensor. Set up was completely simple. The app was very easy to follow and you are up and running in minutes. It monitors all the critical data that is important in the home. It covers Co2, humidity, temperature, VOC which are potentially harmful organic chemical in the air and barometric pressure. However the most important reading for me is Radon and yes Airthings measures that as well. You can get real-time updates via the app at any time. It also provides a clear color coded result on the app. Green, yellow or red. Each level is clearly visible and shows you the acceptable levels for each unit it measures. You can also view historical data via your daahboard. It can be easily mounted wherever you like but the recommended somewhere at height level so you can get the most accurate readings. You can also set notifications to alert you on one, or all of the levels being monitored. This provides me and my family with the necessary reassurance that any unhealthy air is constantly being monitored and any abnormalities will be reported in real time. Absolutely recommend this product.

For me, now more than ever, general air quality and home safety are paramount. With the 6 sensors in the AirThings Wave Plus consisting of: radon, CO2, humidity, temp, airborne chemicals (VOCs) and pressure you pretty much have all the bases covered. The AirThings Wave Plus is battery operated and wireless with seamless integration in the Airthings Wave App. Installation of the AirThings Wave Plus is easy, just download the Airthings Wave App from the App Store or Google Play Store and pull the battery tabs off of the included Pro Cell Batteries to get going. Follow the in App instructions to connect the AirThings Wave Plus. Installation of the AirThings Wave Plus onto your wall / ceiling is easy as well, remove the magnetic mounting plate and screw that onto the wall / ceiling then once done just pop the AirThings Wave Plus onto the mount. The strong magnet will hold it in place. While the app integration is great there is also an easy visual way to quickly check your levels. Just wave in front of the Wave and overall air quality is indicated by a simple Red / Yellow / Green halo of light to indicate Good / Fair / Poor air quality. For me, monitoring for radon, CO2, humidity, temp, airborne chemicals (VOCs) and pressure is great and understating levels with the app is great too, but the real “killer app” for the AirThings Wave Plus is its integration into If This Than That (IFTTT) that will then integrate with everything from heat pumps to, humidifiers, de-humidifiers etc. I have the AirThings Wave Plus installed at a second home and have peace of mind knowing if the humidity reaches unacceptable levels by integrating with IFTTT I can have my de-humidifier turn on and bring things to the right level. Overall a great piece of engineering and one that I will rely on for many years to come.

I should have trusted the other 1 star reviews, they are SPOT ON. Like many others reported, my device worked for about 3 months and readings started to go crazy high! For the first few months, radon reading 1-3 as expected, then suddenly one day RADON starts reading 30-50 for weeks. Contacted support and SUPPORT IS AWFUL! Nothing helped. They wouldn't replace device. THEY WON'T HONOR 1 YEAR WARRANTY. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY! AIRTHINGS DOESN'T EVEN ALLOW YOU TO ACCESS CUSTOMER SUPPORT rep OTHER THAN TIME WASTING EMAILS & CHATS. IT TAKES THEM WEEKS TO RESPOND!!!! After multiple months trying to get support to help (mostly telling me to do resets and wait another month) nothing, still won't replace the device, still reading crazy high numbers and not working. Anyways, good luck to you if you chose to purchase any AIRTHINGS device, hope it works or you are willing to throw away hundreds of dollars if not!

      Hi there,

We are very sorry for the understandable frustration you have experienced. We are aware of a bug a few weeks ago that led to some US customers believing they had much higher radon levels than they actually had. This was due to radon values being shown in becquerel (metric) instead of Picocurie (imperial).

The bug has now been fixed and you should not have this issue anymore. Please try uninstalling and re-installing the app.

If this is not satisfactory, please reach out to support@airthings.com and request to speak to the manager so I can assist you directly. airthings

We installed radon mitigation and I did see our radon levels go down on the device, so it’s clearly measuring something. However given how inaccurate the temperature and humidity readings are, and the fact that the VOC sensor broke within about a year, I’m not so sure how much I trust the radon measurement, which is a much harder thing to measure. I have this right next to a nest thermostat, and while all the nest thermostats in my house read consistently, this is always off in temperature and humidity. I don’t think they use very high quality sensors.

      Hi JonathanB!

The Wave Plus has a battery life of around 12-14 months. Near the end of the battery life, high power sensors like the VOC sensor will turn off until the batteries are replaced. A quick replacement with some fresh AA batteries should get everything up and running again within the hour. If you experience any trouble, please contact us through support in the Airthings Wave App.
