A decent work worth considering
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is no doubt daunting to create something new without abandoning a sonic tradition, which has served to provide a recognizable motif for so iconic a creature as Giger's Alien, especially when following in the footsteps of luminaries such as Goldsmith, Horner, and Goldenthal. Nevertheless, Jed Kurzel does so with panache; the classic Goldsmith theme is interwoven through the soundtrack to evoke the continuity of this classic Man vs Nature series. Kurzel sets about creating a soundscape filled with both awe, at times reminiscent of Prokofiev and Shostakovich, and aural violence, such as in Stravinsky's tribalism from Rite of Spring. I found it to be a solid entry into the series. In fact, try listening to it when reading an adventure such as King Solomon's Mines, you will be delighted to hear how the music captures such images of intrepid daring! Well worth a listen on it's own merits.
