I've used many laptops like Asus ROG and the MSI gaming one. I've used other tablets and laptops in between. I used the Inspiron 7700 4k and Toshiba 4k and the Dell screen is just so much better. The screen of this at 30% brightness is like the 4k Toshiba at 100% brightness. The screen is no ordinary 4k as it has IGZO technology. Look up the tech on the internet as 2 years ago a screen alone cost $5500. The screen colors and black levels are all great. I played some games at 4k on Ultra and they are playable. Some FPS games require 1080p to run good but all games with Vsync are great. Max everything with no AA as it is not needed. Playing project cars with everything maxed looks like the GT5 Playstation prerenders on a showroom that isn't rendered in real-time but this is. I was extremely competitive even with keyboard on the Formula A (fastest car in the game) which means the frame rate is very playable. The reason why you cant play all the FPS games at 4k maxed is it's hard to aim even with vsync off. Unbelievably, Planetside 2 works on Ultra at 1080p Very playable even under the biggest battles. Also to mention I had 16x AF on in every single game. If you run 1080p you can play any game maxed. It looks like a regular 1080p screen and not very blurry. Also text is ULTRA sharp and amazing. The colors are very uniform throughout the screen even at off angles. The blur when moving around isn't dreadful and the low FPS gets OUT WEIGHED by the 4k display. The computer has as subwoofer which many people don't notice but any model that isn't 17" has no sub so people have no idea. The sound processor is a dedicated processor by creative which many people have no idea about but you can look up Soundcore 3D on google for all it's benefits. Also the wireless and ethernet is powered by a dedicated chipset as well which many people think is generic. It's far from generic as if you look up the benefits of that make it more praise worthy. Way back those kinds of technology cost at least $150+ to get but now it's included and put in the common sense as it's the same as any chipset but no, not at all. The skylake does a great job of having like no heat even while powered up gaming. The 970m I thought would be very hot but it's not. I was using it on the lap for a while then used it as desktop to try games and settings. It does not get loud and hot like others say. Despite what Dells says saying it uses the nvidia graphics card and not Intel 530, they are wrong as the Intel 530 does work which promotes good battery life when not gaming. The only problem is, I think the Intel drivers are in the infancy stages on Windows 10 as the Windows OS didn't report correctly and said it was a preview before I installed the newer drivers. The only thing I did when I got the PC was install steam games, update video and intel drivers and that's it. It has no bloatware like others that have unnecessary anti-virus and other unnecessary things. I ordered directly from Dell for $1899 but saw it was the same specs here. I said for them to price match me so they credited me $125 back. They discounted $50 before and I got a 1 year accidental warranty. I also got 10% cash back coming in so I can get a backpack/mouse or console from them. I had huge massive savings. This laptop is DDR4 as the others are just DDR3. It has 2 more core + 2 more thread than the i7-6500u which is worse. For some reason that cost more but it's not better. The SSD that it came with was 500 MB read sustained and 150 MB write sustained. The problem with alienware is it takes 1.7 minutes to boot no matter what I tried to disable and change in the bios. Other laptops take 8 seconds but I assume sleep/hibernate is wiser than a total shutdown as the new power saving tech of 2015 makes it like having your cell phone on but off but it's on. The lights are great and programmable so you can make it look the way you want. I disabled the touchpad light, alienware logo light, the bottom chassis light but kept the keyboard lights on. The macro lights can be changed color and so can the LED indicators which is awesome. The outside likes on top and the alien head on the outside and inside are independent. The rubber feel of the chassis and watching youtube vids and doing anything on the PC just feels like 2015. I've used other things but they do not feel 2015. The Inspiron 7700 touchpad is so bad. The touchpad of the alienware is very accurate. The feel of the keys also have a concave nature to them, they aren't flat. They do not show up on pictures and probably reviewers don't talk about it. This laptop is great if you scientifically analyze everything. It's just weird that people who think it's the same as other laptops, it's not. They don't use soundcore3D, which is extremely important if you do the research it's no gimmick, and the wifi setup. Just remember to disable allow computer to turn wifi card off or else it will also lose connection. After I did that my connection was 100%. I was downloading at 23MB per sec like my ethernet desktop that is connected directly to the router.

    The best Alienware yet!

I have owned numerous Alienware laptops in the past. The most recent was the 18 inch screen version. This version, the R3, is the best yet. It comes in much slimmer than previous versions. The 4k screen is incredible and contrary to other reviews, it runs 4k games flawlessly. Also, for those of you wondering, the 970M graphics card is the latest Maxwell version. This card picks up over 50% performance from previous 8 series cards. There isn't a game made, or will be made for a year, that it will not run on ultra smoothly. Another critical point to this version of Alienware, is the heat. I should say, lack of heat. It runs perfectly cool under the heaviest gaming load. 70-75C max for the CPU and 60C max for the GPU under load. Normal temps are 20C cooler than above. It is just a flawless machine. I am a stickler for quality and craftsmanship. This R3 is made to perfection. The chasis is very sturdy, everything looks and feels like quality. This will be the best money you spend on a laptop and it will last for years to come.

Ok so ive used them all asus rog g752 msi apache lenovoy700 and finally the allienware. The anlienware has best performance by far running Fallout 4 at 60fps on high. obviously is pricey but with the features like ssd and 4k screen still a good deal compared to the other models offered from dell with less features for around same price. IF money is not a problem then this model is way to go for power. How ever i will say i was very impressed with lenovo y700 for the price was best performance in its class with 4gb 960m. if your going to spend big money but want to stay under 2grand the alienware 17r3 is way to go asus was very slow and msi has cheap build quality so if you spend big alienware if on budget lenovo y700 for sure trust me im very very picky so i figured i would save everyone the trouble.

As a girl gamer I will say that this computer has the aesthetic that I have always wanted in my gaming products. At this moment my computer is hot pink and green and still looks like a boss. So proud. For school work, this has the two hard drives so I don't have to bog down my SSD with hundreds of saved files and programs that it doesn't care about. I save all of this information HDD. Also, the keys are amazing in my book. They are easy to type with and do not feel cheap. They are also spaced out well, part of the size of the laptop, so if feels as if you are typing on a full length keyboard. Some of the other laptops I attempted to type on either had too small of a keyboard, keys that were not complete so your fingers would get caught on the edge, or were too hard to push down to create and easy writing flow. Now for the actual relevant data. I have had no problems running my games of choice (mainly World of Warcraft). I will say it is slightly annoying that not everything is 4k compatible at this time but that is (for the sake of this review) a game creators problem and not an issue with the laptop itself. I am hopeful that will be coming though as the lack of preparedness on their part is the only thing that makes this laptop less than immaculate in my book. The computer runs WoW spectacularly with high fps on the highest graphic settings and does not overheat, something almost unheard of with laptops. You can program macro keys for specific games and even change the colors to show what you are currently enabled to play. This is a huge help if you have to play a game without a mouse for whatever reason or to just completely program to your playing style. Originally I took the computer back and exchanged it because my wifi card kept losing connection, reboot was taking 5+ minutes, graphics card would randomly stop working and reboot itself making me lose important seconds of game time, and it seemed as if no one knew what was going on. When I noticed that the same was happening with the second computer I decided that it must be a programming issue and went to work. I had previously reinstalled Windows on the last computer and it didn't help so I started with the drivers this time. I updated them all and still had a wifi issue. I had to go into the wifi adapter settings and untick the option to turn off wifi card to save power. Then I had an unresolved 5+minute reboot time. I recently found that if you update the freefall driver it will solve this issue. I now have a 10 second reboot time that can not be beat. Overall, this is a worthwhile investment. Should all of these issues have previously been fixed so I had a working computer out of the box? Yes, absolutely, especially for the money that I put down on it. However, I am finding that the computer is worth the heartache in order to get it to proper working order. Just like a standard gaming girlfriend, you have to prove to her that you love her before she opens up completely to you. I would suggest this beast of a laptop to anyone who has serious gaming needs or just wants a really pretty product.

This item was dead on arrival. It WAS OBVIOUSLY a return, but I was sold it anyway as a supposed open box. The boox was opened, and all wrappping inside was missing. All literature was also missing. It would turn on, but nothing on screen. Took it back and was told no exchange because it was last one. So had to refund and decided to go with a MSI apache pro and never looked back at this junk.

    Awesome Laptop!

Went through quite a few (Surface 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, I wanted to like it, but I felt I needed more average to heavy gaming abilities) laptops before I decided this was a keeper. This is my very first gaming laptop. Nice 4k screen and a lot of real estate for everyday use. I'm usually on my 5" Samsung S6 and 7" tablet for the most part of my day/night. Got rid of the tablet and don't get on my phone quite as much now, only when away from home (This thing is HUGE to carry around!). The 2 in 1 PC's were nice and light weight and were very capable enough for everyday work and or pleasure. But I felt like I wanted more. For the price of the Surface Book ($2100, I know not meant for gaming, plus the AW was $500 bucks cheaper!) I felt I wanted more bang for the buck, and all around laptop. Had this PC for 2 weeks now, and I can't believed I haven't jumped ship earlier! Awesome brand and just ordered a $100 AW 17" laptop bag and skin, can't wait until it gets here! Granted there are trade offs to going to a bigger and a pure gaming laptop. This baby will be my main and I will pick up a 2 in 1 in the near future as my side dish (those Surface Pros are really nice, lite, and efficient, on the expensive side, will probably get a cheaper version soon to tote around) . But overall, some minor bugs, but a really great laptop! PROS: *Awesome gaming machine (I'ma noob to gaming laptops, so it seems pretty awesome to me). *Pretty and awesome 4K screen. *My everything! (TV, mobile media, etc...) *I can get 5 hours or more of constant use on battery, with casual surfing, work, programming, youtube, etc... *Still in awe, powerful, quick, lighting fast, this thing is a beast! *This thing looks beastly! *Awesome brand name and those lights are rocking! CONS: *Not much here, but Window Explorer/Edge (Windows 10 bug?) bugs out here and there. Downloaded Chrome and Firefox, so I'm happy. *Again the size isn't a factor to me, but might be for some. *When gaming, you will go from one hundred to zero real quick! But that's to be expected with a gaming laptop. (Not an actual complaint from me, but might be for others).
