I purchased one of these on March for video editing, and programming. The laptop is great until it stops powering on. I've called dell and had mine replaced three times. As a computer technician I can tell you that each time has been due to a bad logic board and through no fault of my own. Unfortunately the first time it happened was one day after my BestBuy return, so I'm stuck with it..

Bought the laptop, after the 4th day the laptop started acting glitchy and graphics kept on failing and fixing itself. It became alittle slow as well. So I decided to return it and bought a MSI 1060 series gpu laptop. Runs sweet so far.

    1. The 4K display is average, I wouldn't say it's cheap, but it could be better. When gaming I felt colors were washed out a bit. 2. The 970m is enough to play games on ultra on 1080p fine, but don't expect intensive games to play maxed on 4K unless you buy the amplifier with a high-end card. 3. Outside build quality was great, but I was soso with the plastic around the keyboard. I still found it fairly high though. 4. The ssd tested fast and the slave drive was setup perfectly with little bloatware installed out of the box. 5. I'm not an Alienware fan, but I spent the extra 300 to get a quality build with ddr4 and a 6 gen processor verse comparable models. If your going for price look elsewhere, but this is a solid product with a good build.

I bought this in hope of having a decent gaming laptop but the graphics card had issues. If you buy one, I doubt this will be a problem of yours. The laptop does have great airflow if you prop it up in the back.

Bought this laptop brand new and had issues with charging from time it came out of the box. After weeks of fighting with alienwares all foreign non english speaking customer support i finally got it sent off for repair. This brand new laptop had a faulty motherboard which was replaced but within 6 months went bad again and was then out of warranty. So now im stuck with a $1400 laptop that wont charge unless i pay for a new motherboard and installation. Believe it when you here Alienware is overpriced garbage i found out the hard way.

After returning the Lenovo Y700 w/960m (weak for gaming) and the ASUS G752 W/965m (horrible load times and took minutes to boot), I went with this. My desktop has an I7 4790k and a GTX Titan. Although this laptop is obviously not as powerful, I find it more pleasant to game on. The display is amazing and it boots up in seconds from a cold boot. It runs all games on max settings @1080p (minus AA) at 60FPS without issues. I run most games at 2048x1152, (still 60fps maxed out) which provides crystal clear graphics with no haze and eliminates the need for AA. I am more than impressed with its performance. My passmark graphics score is 6012 (beats a desktop 680) and my unigine heaven score is 937 (tied with a 680). Amazing laptop and just fun to use. 4K video is breathtaking as well!

    4K for 1700

Initial Impression: For the price its hard to find a 4K matte screen, 10 key and a GTX 970m laptop. The screen is great. No dead or stuck pixels. The keyboard feels good. Not mechanical but it feels a lot better than the other laptop keyboards out there. It does have Bluetooth which is not mentioned on the product page. It's big but not as bulky looking as the Asus ROG laptops. Haven't tried playing any games on it yet. Note that the GTX 970m is the 3g version not the 6g version that other pc guys use like Maingear or Origin. So if you are a hardcore pc gamer that might matter. But this is mostly for school (overkill). Only concern so far is that it went to sleep and didn't wake up. So I had to hold down the power and then turn it back on. Windows 10 makes you input a password or a pin every time you start up. Do a internet search and you can see how to turn this off. Also the numlock is always off when you startup. That's Windows 10 issue and not the laptop. Haven't figured out how to fix that. There's not too much bloat in this thing. Some of the things though you can't delete like the xbox app. So I'll update this later as time goes by. Got a great financing deal with it.

Kept crashing from day one. Took it to Geek Squad and it was "fixed", This was the first two weeks. Multiple lagging issues with games. Returned it after a month. So disappointing.

Excellent gaming laptop with wifi issue

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It comes with a Killer Network Card and it doesn't like Windows 10 for some reason (from what I've been reading). I've owned this laptop for 24 hours now and the wifi has crashed 3 times now. To fix, you have to restart the PC. But I've been doing a lot of research and have turned off bandwidth throttling in the networks settings and disabled "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". I'll see how it goes. I also read that removing the wifi driver and restarted will cause Windows to auto install a normal driver, without features, and that fixes it completely. I'll know within the next couple days. If it still doesn't fix, I'm going to have to return it. I really hope it fixes because other that that problem, I am LOVING this laptop. So far, I would not recommend because of this issue. It should be fixed right out the box.

This machine is superb in every way and you can take solace in standing out of the crowd with having something that is unique. It has the power to game, but is also future proof which is the main reason I got it. The display is absolutely amazing and 4k Video is stunning. The GPU/CPU plus video card have no issues playing everything I can throw at it, even high frame rate videos without breaking a sweat. Not a huge gamer but the new Doom is stunning on it, and they did a nice job of handling heat evacuation during high graphics usage. Adding more RAM and SSD space only requires a screwdriver and a few minutes of time. Overall a great winning combination with power, speed and a lot less money with more capability compared to a MBP. For the people that are saying it's heavy, buy a backpack. If you can't handle 7 pounds with all this does then you have further issues. It really isn't that bad, and everyone has a smartphone when you are in tight situations anyway....

Purchased this laptop a week ago, by far the best computer I have EVER owned by a long shot. It is expensive $1,712 after tax, however you get what you pay for. This laptop is worth the money crystal clear display from the 4k.. I am beyond happy with my purchase by the way I played BF4 on ultra running at 72fps

First off this is a great laptop for somebody looking for outstanding performance!. The screen is great, the cpu and the gpu as well. However there are some downsides, it needs atleast 16gb of RAM for the best performance. Also the SSD it comes with is very slow! I recommend either buying a 2.5 SSD or an additional M.2 drive. The M.2 drive which is what the included ssd is very generic and junk at that. Read/ Write speeds on it are horrific at 150mbs/write and 350/read...so yeah with a few upgrades, this laptop shines.

    Super fast PC

I am not a gamer but do a lot of other work on my PC so need one that is very fast as I do a lot of picture and video editing as well as financial management. Key Pros on this machine: fast CPU, fast SSD, 7200rpm hard drive, programmable keys (really love that feature, saves tons of keystrokes). I have a 4k external monitor so was expecting more from this display but it is better than a simple HD. The only Con is the battery only lasts a little more than 3 hours. Almost downgraded this to 4 stars because of that but there were so many good features that I went with 5. The 128GB SSD is plenty big enough for all my software so apps load very fast. All my data, (Music, pics, videos, docs, etc.) is stored on the Hard Drive. The combination of both of these is great. Is a little heavy at 8.5 lbs, especially for a PC without a CD drive, but I guess that is expected with the 17 inch display and all the internals. I will not travel with this, have a 3 lb ultrabook for that. I have compared this PC to similarly configured models from MSI, and Asus and this was certainly the best deal for the money.

    Beastly Laptop

Picked this up as an exchange. Before this I had an Asus G751JL Open box item. Had nothing but problems so I exchanged it out and skipped over the G752 due to the massive amounts of issues I experienced with the Asus. This computer is about 123% Faster then the Asus was right out of the gate. Boot times are less than a minute which is expected for a m.2 SSD even tho it is only a 128GB drive. 4K Screen is a very nice touch. Honestly considering my desktop is running a 27" 2K screen, it was a noticeable difference. 970M GTX GPU does fully lack the capabilities of the 4K Screen. 970M GTX lacks the graphics horsepower to push 4K Maximum graphics with The Division. It just can't keep up to the demand. Halving the screen is what's required to run The Division in all it's glory. That's why I removed a Star. Over-all the unit is fast, pleasurable. The lighting effects is spot on what you would expect from Alienware as is the hardware. As a custom Desktop builder, this unit is about Half of what my desktop can do in terms of raw performance. The trade off being I can actually take the laptop with me versus a 60lb gaming behemoth. Would absolutely recommend the Alienware, even tho Dell has removed AlienRespawn name, and stuck their lack-luster name and look of apps on the unit. Unit is reliable, fast, quiet when it needs to be, Loud when it needs to under heavy gaming and the speaker quality is what I would expect from a gaming system.

I'm normally not an Alienware person but this is a great deal: 1) 4K Screen 2) 6th Gen i7 3) DDR4 RAM 4) nVidia 970m Its a great machine that can run basically anything on high settings. Quiet and cool. Highly recommend.
