One and Done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Alienware R13 offers everything a pc gamer could ever need and want. Coming in at a hefty price tag this beast of a rig is sure to offer future proofing for quite a while. With the latest and greatest hardware all built in to this power house the issue isn't rather or not it can perform but rather or not this much power is worth the buy. Out of the gate you can expect literaly the latest and greatest tech that is out there for pc gaming. This rig comes equiped with a PCie 5.0 mother board, 2 sticks of ddr5 RAM (two additional open slots), 12th gen intel I9 and a Nvidia 3080 equipped with DLSS. The processor is liquid cooled with a single rearward fan for adequate heat dissapiation. Speaking of heat, one the biggest issues i have had with pre builds specifically Alienware, is poor heat disappiation. Temps would always get in to the 90s and throttling issues would always seem to arise. When benchmarking this rig at max settings i was actually very suprised as to how well temps stayed consistent and never seemed to get close enough to present throttle issues. CPU temps hovered around the upper 70C while GPU temps were pushed to the mid 80s. Frame rates ran at a consistent 120 FPS. Now the good thing about Alienware products is that they usually allow for expansion. The RAM slots have 2 open slots allowing for 2 more sticks of RAM and there is open usb ports to upgrade or add additional hard drives. The 1 TB of SSD means your going to get very fast start up and read/write speeds which will allow for faster downloading and loading of games. As far as performance goes overclocking can be done easily pushing the the 12th gen Intel to its limits at 5.2 ghz and overclock speeds were achieved of up to 800mhz for the gpu before running in to issues. However once pushed to these limits thats when cooling issues arose and cpu temps climbed in to the upper 80s. Overclocking this rig in my opinion is pointless as this beast can run all AAA gaming with no issues whatsoever. Horizon on ultra ran a consistent 130 frames, COD 140 frames, final fantasy 14 at 150 frames and Metro Exodus held up at 125 frames. These frame rates were all accomplished with the factory settings. Heaven benchmark scores came in at 4812 with very smooth video rendering and consistent frames and temps. Here's the bottom line. IF your a avid gamer then its very easy to tell just by looking at the specs what this rig is capable of. The only real issue your going to run in to eventually is going to be temperature issues. Will you need to add additional fans however limited spacing is going to make it very difficult to expand which means you may have to opt in for a full liquid build or upgrade to a bigger size fan. Performance will never be a issue for this unit and will only be limited based on how well temperatures get. I say "eventually" because over time parts degrade and cooling can tend to dip a bit. Now if your someone who knows nothing about gaming or upgrading computers and is looking for something that is future proof so you can have a one and done, then you may want to consider shelling out the extra cash for this. Getting 32 gigs out of 2 sticks of RAM is pretty impressive and in all reality you really should never need any more RAM meaning you don't need to upgrade your sticks. However should the need arise you do have 2 extra slots. Now one thing i will say if you are not very tech savvy keep in mind that 1 TB of SSD is very nice however most games coming out now are usually a minium of 50 gigs and thats not including future updates. This means eventually your going to have to do one of 2 things. Either upgrade your memory or keep deleting and downloading games. I personally dont like deleting and erasing games consistently as this can tend to wear down the hardware. Other than that this unit is good to go and honestly i can't see this rig falling out of line for at least the next 10 years. There are still people out there running 1080 ti with no issues. If i had the money to spend i would buy this unit in heartbeat, especially considering how hard it has been to find computer parts.

Great high end game/work comp
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer is great aside from weird shut downs when I’m not using it. Haven’t had it fail while in use but when I let it sit it must crash or do something because it starts in safety mode. Other than that works great.

nVidia GeForce RTX overheating issues!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This machine, in theory, was a beast. The performance was off the charts. Unfortunately, my GeForce RTX 3080 constantly overheated and would crash the entire system. I was forced to return to the store and purchase a different computer instead.

Great performance. Future proofed. Not perfect.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To put everything in the simplest terms, this is a great system that performs very well. Frankly, I could not really be happier in that regard. That said, that does not mean I find it perfect. The machine has great specs, and it performs as such. The 3080 and 12900KF really show why they are still near to top of the class when it comes to hardware in their respective markets. Further, the 32GB of RAM (you can expand to 128GB) allows for headroom and both it and the 1TB SSD perform as expected (although for the price I would have loved the bump to 2TB). Fast. Everything is fast. Everything works. Everything works well. All in all, it is a beast of a machine. Every game I threw at it was smooth. No issue. Photo work. Same. Video work. Same. Anything in the day to day, including endless open tabs. Same. I really not one to put too much into synthetic benches, but everything excelled there as well. From a spec/performance standpoint, I am quite pleased. Further, while I am typically somewhat conservative when it comes to looks, I do like the case presentation here. It is not “too” flashy, and I think the RGB use is somewhat subdued and works well (there are loads of options). While I do think I would have more preferred the black, I think most people would generally like the styling. Beyond that, the port connectivity is absolutely fantastic. Front I/O is robust, and there are just a seemingly endless number of USB ports overall. A, C, and loads of them are 3.2 spec’d (20Gbps). You also have networking options, with a great wired option as well as wireless capabilities. All in all, some good work here. That said, while the case looks “good” and they made sure to cover the port and connectivity department, it does pump some heat. I mean, this is expected with the level of hardware in use, but I am just not sure they did as much as they could have here. The cable management, honestly, was better than I expected, so that helps with air flow, but I am just not sure there is enough running through the case. Further, while the AIO is welcome, the minimal rad is somewhat of a disappointment, and it has to be having an effect on temps. In some ways, I would have preferred a larger, more vanilla case that would have allowed for more (and better) cooling. To be clear, I have not had issues to this point due to temps (although it can get a bit loud), but I do think this is a bit of a miss here. We shall see. As it stands, this system is a great performer now, and with its current hardware I expect it will be for some time. I really do think there is a fair amount of future proofing with the hardware this system has. I expect to be good for some years here. This, however, is where part of my issue with this system has its roots. Whenever you build or buy a system, part of that investment is spent knowing computers will change over time, and you can upgrade, add, delete, or change your system to get even more out of that initial investment. With this system, yes, you can certainly do that…but to a degree. Several components of this system are proprietary parts (motherboard, PSU) that in some ways limit what you can do. Further, as I alluded to above, the case also limits what you can do cooling-wise in the system, which, in turn, sort of limits what you could do hardware-wise down the road. Ultimately, in the end, I think that is what it comes down to with this PC. It absolutely gives you top level performance right now, and it should for some time. You will be able to tinker with that in the future, but you may be slightly limited. I think those that are into building systems should look elsewhere, both for value and future upgrade paths. Those who are just looking for a great machine that is ready to go and will do what you want, with a bit of piece of mind for the future, would really enjoy this system, and see the value it provides.

Excellent performance and well thought design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Alienware Aurora R13 Gaming Desktop PC is an amazing performer with top quality components that handles the most demanding tasks and game play with ease. There are a few minor dings that I will address below. The computer is packaged in a gigantic box and when it arrived on my doorstep I was very surprised at the size and bulk. The case/chassis is likewise larger than I expected but as expected with a gaming PC of this caliber. The case weight also surprised me. It is heavy! But that is in part because of the well designed internal support structures for the components. One thing I like is that the most common user upgradeable parts are easily accessible. The side of the case can be removed with out tools by simply pulling out a spring tensioned lever on the back (once you loosen a screw which does not have to be re-tightened). The computer comes with a 1TB M.2 SSD and has another open M.2 slot. I installed a second SSD in that slot, as well as added some DDR5 RAM. Again, all of these slots are easily accessible. At first I wasn't too keen on the spacey alien design of the case but after using it for a few days I really have come to like the aesthetics. There are three USB-A ports and one USB-C port on the front. The lighting is completely customizable. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 is at the top of the class when it comes to GPUs. I don't have any very hard core games but I was seeing frame rates around 200 during moderate gaming use. During bench testing I never saw the temps of the GPU go above 70C. The Intel i9-12900KF is a fantastic processor. I haven't owned a processor before that has separate "performance" cores and "efficiency" cores and was slightly skeptical of how the processor will handle things. In short, this processor will handle anything you throw at it significantly faster than almost any other consumer grade processor. There's a certain test that I do to gauge the speed of the processor that is almost totally dependent on the processor and nothing else. With the i9-12900KF processor completed the test about 20% faster than I've seen and that's a very significant increase. However, it appears that the water cooler used in this system is perhaps a little small for the task. During bench testing the temp went up to about 98C and two of the 16 cores were throttled briefly by Windows. Now for the minor dings. I question whether the case allows for enough air flow for cooling. There are three fans in the case, one on the back, one on the top and one on the front. However there is probably not enough air intake for these fans. As far as fan noise, I didn't find the fans to be particularly loud or quiet. Somewhere in the middle. It also appears as though Dell/Alienware chose to use some proprietary components in the motherboard and liquid cooler that might be difficult to replace if something goes wrong. This PC is future proof for years to come and I hope it lasts. It is an excellent performer!

Nice gaming pc, but subpar parts...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very nice gaming pc, however the price is high for what in my opinion lower level parts. Theres not much this gaming rig by Alenware/Dell didnt handle in the gaming department well. It handled all my newer games with settings maxed out, without issues. I like the slick look of the case and all of the rgb lighting. The rear I/O is ample, I like the option of wired ether net or Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth built in. This has a generic 3080 gpu and power supply as well, also a generic mobo. The 140mm water cooling unit is very generic, plain black with the AW logo on the cpu cooler with a rgb fan. This set would highly benefit from a 2800mm radiator with 2 140mm fans. As the 12th gen i9 chip runs hot gaming. My sons bedroom got uncomfortable if you closed the door, the rear of the pc was blasting out hot air continuously. The ram is plain jain memory sticks, no rgb or heatsinks whatsoever. I will say the cable management is good, which surprised me. Everything inside the pc is accessible and easy to swap, should you wanna upgrade a component or add say another m.2 ssd or a standard ssd to the setup. This has a WD 1tb m.2 ssd installed. Ive alwanted wanted to own a Alienware desktop pc, before dell bought them. Im disappointed to say the least jow that I do for what this costs. I know I could build a flashier gaming pc with all name brand parts for the same cost or less.
