I usually just build my own gaming PCs, but since you can't find GPU's anywhere, decided to give a gaming laptop a try. I purchased this open box, supposed to be excellent condition. It was comical how messed up this laptop was. It looked like someone had used it for months just throwing it around. Scratches all over the place, bottom screws were stripped and had signs of them prying the bottom cover off. So, this review may be a bit off from buying a new one, although I also tried the m15 R4 new and that was actually worse. Even though it says 3070, performance really isn't close to a desktop 3070. The temps on these laptops are crazy. The laptop itself above the keyboard gets so hot it feels like it can burn you. In no way can you like sit with it on your lap and game, would be painful. And watching actual temps of the CPU/GPU, on the m15 R4 CPU was like constantly pegged in the 90's, frequently maxing out. With this x15 it was quite a bit less. During gaming CPU was like 70-80 degrees. GPU on both machines was always reasonable at like 70-80 degrees. I think whoever had the x15 before me did a repaste or something, never seen thermals on a gaming laptop that low. The fans are also crazy, the Alienwares seem better than other brands, but they are quite loud. One thing I've seen often with gaming laptops is CPU bottlenecking GPU, and that was the case here. I don't think gaming laptops are realistic. Just trying to cram too much power into a small package, ends up with something so hot and loud I find it kind of ridiculous. Aside from that though, I've tried several gaming laptops and think the Alienware is definitely quite a bit higher quality than other brands. Keyboard and trackpad feel nice (although trackpad is a bit small). Hinge is stiff and sturdy. Frame/shell or whatever seems really durable and whatever they're using for paint has a nice feel to it. Screen looked really nice, the high refresh rate looked super smooth. If you are set on getting a gaming laptop, I'd say the premium price of Alienware is worth it as it just seems to be of higher quality. And I'm not sure if it was the person who had the pre-owned system before me, but like CPU/GPU thermals were a lot more reasonable than other gaming laptops I've tried.

This laptop is great! You can throw some of the most performance intensive graphics on this and it’ll remain cool. Although the battery life is about two hours, that’s to be expected when it comes to gaming laptops. It looks great and the lights are easily customizable. If you're looking for a high performance laptop, this is definitely an option for you.

Got an open box deal and saved $1000 on sale! After discounts, this laptop is priced right. Returned a Legion 5 as I was unsatisfied with the build quality, and this being my first gaming laptop, I wanted something that will last. The keyboard feels great, but is not the cherry mx. The trackpad is responsive and feels well built. Keyboard and lights on the back are all customizable. I recommend upgrading ssd, this model only comes with 512gb but it has an extra open slot for gen 4 m.2 ssd card. 16gb RAM is soldered to the board, not upgradeable.

Bought this as a college/gaming laptop for my daughter. She's not a huge "gamer" but she does play some and plays a lot of videos. We figured might as well get something with a little more than we need and enjoy the benefits. Wrong. Pretty disappointed in the overall performance. Speed is good enough and graphics are nice.. but the display is seriously glitchy and keyboard has cut out a few times. Really?! This is "top of the line?" Not impressed and thinking of returning it.

Had to reinstall all the drivers when i first got it since the screen was just black when i first turned it on. Read some other reviews saying they all had the same issues. The mouse pad also feels broken/cheap even though it's not. Other than that, AAA games run really well and haven't had any other issues. Would only buy if on sale.

I purchased this laptop as an open-box item, so this probably does not apply to laptops that are purchased as new. The laptop I received had many different problems that I ran into over the course of a month. The laptop wouldn't boot for the first day I had it, which resolved itself (still not sure how). After about a week, it started to exhibit strange graphical artifacts when I was playing games, like flickering character models and stuttering framerates for relatively simple games. It eventually got to the point where even videos were impacted, as any videos that I played across different programs would show a strange red-blue color shift and the rendered area on-screen was offset by a couple pixels from the normal space. The whole experience was strange and inconsistent. When the laptop worked properly, it was phenomenal. But when it was being temperamental, it would give me all sorts of weird display/graphical anomalies. Once again, I'm assuming this was a defective unit and that's why it was returned in the first place and it isn't a criticism of a factory-new version of this laptop. My only genuine gripe with the laptop that I don't think was specific to the one I had is that the battery life is pretty bad. Even leaving it alone at 50% brightness would burn the battery down in under two hours. It is a power-hungry gaming laptop, but similarly spec'd laptops have substantially longer battery and I had hoped this would at least be usable for basic tasks without needing to reach for the plug ever 90 minutes or so.

I’ve owned the X14 and now the X15 so this review will be a pros/cons compared to the X14. I returned the X14 due to excessive fan noise during regular office work, which made it distracting on zoom calls. X15 pros vs X14 Keyboard feels a little roomier Track pad has more breathing room Screen has faster response time and refresh rate More powerful GPU and doesn’t throttle as quickly Extra ssd slot to add storage Light ring on the back Comes with usb c Ethernet adapter Cons vs X14 Build is nice but X14 felt more solid, better screen feel with less wobble Keyboard felt better to type on Bluetooth worked better and didn’t drop Speakers are much better on the X14 Processor is better on X14 Overall, you can’t go wrong with either machine, but the x14 will be best if you need to travel a lot with your laptop. In that case, portability is worth the loud fan noise.

I play diablo 4 with it and I constantly get 120 - 130 frame rate with this laptop. As another reviewer mentioned, the fan has high pitch sound to it and it can get little annoying. Battery life can be better when using non-gaming programs. Its thin but not too light. It has good weight to it but it can be big for some laptop backpack designed for regular 15" laptops. Overall solid laptop if you can grab it when it is on sale.

Picked this up when it was on sale and open box so I got double the discount. So far it has been incredible, I am new to gaming laptops and I wanted something that was powerful in games but small enough to take to work if I need to. Everything I have played on it has run flawlessly. The battery life is roughly 5-6 hrs with all the RGB turned off and refresh rate set to 180hz. 512gb is a little light on storage but I added a 1tb 4th gen nvme as my game drive. It can run a little hot under heavy gaming sessions but the fans sound so smooth even at high that it’s never a problem. Most games haven’t pushed it past 75c.

I’ve had this laptop for about a year now and the left heatsink fan is giving me problems. As in it started making a rattle noise at first. But now every time I turn on the laptop the top left heatsink fan turns on and it is just none stop rattleing. The laptop is great for gaming I love it but now I’m going to have to spend more money to fix this which is probably going to happen again in the future.

1st let me say this is an amazing laptop. Size is great. Build quality is amazing and gaming performance is pretty good. Track pad and keyboard have a great feel to them, screen is great and love the windows hello face login. For me the downsides are just a few. 1. it has a 90watt RTX 3070 before boost. When you compare it to the m15 r5 which has a way higher wattage with an inferior cooling system, Alienware didn't design this system well despite having double the cooling fans and way betting cooling system. 2. No upgradable memory! COME ONE DELL!! Its a gamers laptop. Why would you not give that option? The 15" Alienware m15 R5 has it, this is the premium line, and you do not allow users to upgrade the system memory? FYI the X17 Alienware has upgradable memory. Bottom line is if you are looking for a great quality-built laptop this is it, however for this price to performance best buy does offer a lot of other options with upgradable memory, extra open m.2 slot that are worth a look.

      Hello Hector,

Thanks for taking the time to share your review. We are glad to hear that you're pleased with the performance, design and various aspects of your laptop. Your feedback on the keyboard, system noise, and speaker of your Alienware is incredibly valuable as we build current and future products. We're sorry to hear that your computer is operating warmer than you hoped and we would love to assist you as soon as possible. We'd recommend the following tips to help keep your computer at a cooler temperature:

      1. Prioritize cooling by opening the Alienware Command Center application and select the 'Cool' thermal profile.

      2. Ensure that you're running the latest BIOS. An out-of-date BIOS can cause thermal's issues. You can download the update here - https://dell.to/3ltjAWs.

It’s a great laptop with performance and power that pairs well with the 1080p screen resolution. Do not purchase this laptop thinking you are going to push ultra graphics on HDMI 2.1 on a 4K TV (which I have seen some YouTube reviewers attempt- then raise their fist in the air at poor performance). This is a portable laptop meant for portable productivity and gaming. If you want a machine that balances small size and performance- this is it. The build and deign is flawless…although I disagree with Alienware’s 3080 only for RGB trackpad- but that shows how out of touch they truly are with their customer base or just a greedy laptop manufacturer- another story for another day. Assassins Creed Valhalla 60 FPS, Deathloop 60 FPS, Days Gone 60 FPS, Cold War multiplayer 90-120 FPS. CPU Temps are between 80-100, so it gets warm compared to the cooler running X17. Admire the quality and its purpose and you will enjoy; expect a powerhouse desktop replacement and you will be dissatisfied.
