The Altec Lansing RockBox XL Waterproof Bluetooth Portable Speaker is today's equivalent to the boombox from when I was growing up, where instead of music coming from a cassette or the radio, more typically, it is coming from a streaming service like Spotify. While I liked to carry my boom box around, the RockBox XL is the perfect party speaker. It weighs just over nine pounds so I wouldn't want to carry it around for that long. Instead, position the speaker to take advantage of the music coming out of both sides of the pyramid shaped design. The speaker delivers bass boosting sound that will light up the party! With 5 different LED light modes, customize your lighting feature to match your music. IP67 means the unit can be dropped into a body of water up to 3 feet/a meter deep for half an hour. Sound out of the speaker won't disappoint. First, setup is a breeze, syncing like nearly every other speaker/headphones nowadays. Then, the music happens. You can get some heavy bass out of the speaker or listen to something a bit more classical. The speaker didn't disappoint. It is a bit of overkill for your bedroom, but if you need something perfect for an indoor/outdoor party, you won't be disappointed with the Altec Lansing RockBox XL Waterproof Bluetooth Portable Speaker. If you're concerned about your party outlasting your speaker, the RockBox XL can last for 20 hours of battery life. At that length, you should be more concerned with your phone running out of power to play the music, but, the speaker has that covered, too. It has a built-in USB charging port to ensure your music won't stop when your devices battery does. The one thing it does lack though is a Qi Wireless Charger.

During the Summer I love to have people over to grill out, enjoy some music and just relax. However, as I get people together I also want to have some great music to go with the get together and recently I decided to pick up the new Altec Lansing Rockbox XL Waterproof Bluetooth Portable Speaker. When I was looking for a new speaker I have to say that I was impressed by the fact that the Rochbox has up to a 20 hour charge. Not that I will need that for one party, but once I started using it I found that it would last for a long time and I really did not have to charge it for a while. This saved me time, and money for not having to charge it constantly. I love the sound that I get from the Altec Lansing Rockbox XL. You get 50 Watts of bass, but even better, you can control the sound easily and get the volume and sound that you want no matter what you want to play. I tested it out with my spotify playlist and it sounded great! On top of great sound this speaker is also a great addition to the party. There are 5 LED light modes that either illuminate the light directly or pulse with the music which you are playing. This really can make the party pop, especially after the sun goes down. I have yet to try this yet, but the speaker is also waterproof and will float upright in water. I will definitely need to bring this speaker with me to try this out the next time that I am around a pool! While I only bought one speaker, the technology with this speaker allows you to pair up to 50 compatible speakers together to create a sound experience that no one will forget. After seeing how well this one works, I would have no issue with getting more for the future.

The USB charging port is my favorite feature! I have never owned a speaker that featured a USB charging port! The sound quality it amazing! The RockBox XL features 60 Watt – 360 degree music listening. It’s all about the bass with the down firing Subwoofer for bass booming sound!

This isn't some tiny Bluetooth speaker. This is a SPEAKER! It reminds me of the old boomboxes, but a lot sturdier. It really is waterproof. We were playing with it under the sprinkler. Plus it lights up. It has a great battery life (it lasted for hours) and a charging port so I could charge my cell phone. I just wish my cell phone was as waterproof as this speaker.

So far only been a month but I LOVE this thing! I had a smaller Altec speaker for a decade and let me tell ya, Altec knows how to make indestructible outdoor speakers! It truly can float in water and you can even answer or decline calls from it hands-free! Love the USB charging port. I am a big fan of LED party lights so that is a huge perk. I have been on the market for a new, bigger, summer speaker for floating the river, working in the garage, or BBQ in the backyard, but did not want to pay an arm and a leg. $150 is a steal for the size of this thing. It really has great bass and the 360 sound is great. I love the handle for portability. So far, I tested out the battery playing at a medium volume with the lights on and it lasted 14 hours! I might even get a second one to pair it.

Now this is a pretty cool way to listen to music whether you are in the back yard, at the park or on a campsite. With the fact that it is dirt proof and waterproof you can set it down in the snow or even have it float on the water in your pool. It has color changing lights and can also change color with the beat of the music. Having Bluetooth makes it easy to connect to a variety of devices. I love how modern it looks and the great sound.

Let me start out by saying this speaker sounds very good and gets quite loud. The battery life is great, too! Were it not for one deal-killing behavior that ruins the experience, this speaker would earn a solid 4-5 stars. I love the design, size and performance of this speaker but I'm returning it today. When I first powered on the speaker and heard "powering on, welcome to Altec Lansing", I thought it was kind of neat. Then I heard it again, and again, and again. Try to turn on the speaker without waking someone in the same room? Good luck. Pause the music for 15 minutes while you take a break? The speaker turns itself off and, upon powering it back up, that oh-so familiar voice rings loud. "Powering on, welcome to Altec Lansing". Ugh, it's grown so annoying over the last few days. It's very frustrating to have a speaker that sounds this good and ticks so many boxes ruined by silly programming. Altec Lansing, if you're reading this review, I implore you to stop programing verbose audible status updates. A simple tone works just fine for JBL, Sony, ION, Harman Kardon and countless other speaker manufacturers. At the very least, allow us the option to disable the voice by pressing or holding a button combination.

I have purchased several other brands in the "high power" (40 - 50 watt) category but never thought that paying the premium brand name price would really make it worth the minor sound quality difference it but I was wrong. The Altec Lansing RockBox XL is markedly superior to all of the non-brand name speakers. Not only does it have more volume but it has full clear sound throughout the entire low, mid and high spectrum ranges. It sounds more like a much larger component stereo speaker than a blue tooth speaker. Being waterproof is also a cool plus. The multiple different lighting effects are very cool when the lights are low but they are cool in full light as well. It is very well made and you can feel the quality when you handle it. I am going to purchase a second one so that I can TWS them together for stereo which I am sure is going to sound amazing. I got a great deal from BEST BUY on it and would definitely recommend this speaker.

I've purchased several of these speakers because they sound great and the lights are a nice addition. The sound quality is really good and goes fairly loud for a portable bluetooth speaker. The battery lift is also amazing and I can use my speaker for several days before charging. I haven't tested the waterproof feature yet, but this is also a very nice feature. The only downside I've experienced so far is that when linking multiple speakers together I get a lot of signal interruption to the secondary speakers. They are around 30 feet apart. Overall, these are very nice speakers.

I'm a musician so I am picky about the quality of my music listening experience. I play my converted .mp3 files (via Windows 10 with the bit rate set to the highest setting on conversion of each recording, i.e. CD quality) off my Android smart phone to my new Altec Lansing RockBox XL bluetooth unit. The sound from this RockBox XL is FANTASTIC. The sound is balanced beautifully with a good bass, excellent mid-range and highs. The battery on this RockBox XL is EXCELLENT! It last hours upon hours. Plus there is a charging USB port to plug a weak smart phone into for charging. Another cool feature: then you adjust the volume on the RockBox XL it reverse talks to your phone and lowers the volume there too, and vice versa. Two final things: 1. this unit is heavy (which means some powerful sound producing magnets in the speakers); 2. It sounds best sitting on a hard surface (the woofer vents are on the bottom of the speaker). I LOVE THIS ROCKBOX XL. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. TRUE LOVE.

One of the things that I'd struggled with was finding a speaker that would work for our outdoor living area. I live in Florida and have an enclosed (screened in) pool that we use year-round. I'd always been afraid of a speaker getting ruined by the elements or falling into the pool. I love that the RockBox XL is not only great for outdoors, but I can actually PUT IT INTO THE POOL as it is watertight. The colorful lights are a plus, especially for evening pool parties. Add great Altec Lansing sound to the mix and I finally have the outdoor speaker that I've been looking for for 3 years.

I love the fact I can charge it and take it outside and not have to worry about plugging it in or getting it wet. It has Bluetooth too which just makes it so convenient. The sound is very good also. It’s not Bose for $500, it’s a very good sound system that’s portable and convenient for $99.00.

Was pleasantly surprised with sound. Good bass, really long battery life. Liked it so much I bought another one. Blue tooth range limited to around 30 feet.

Love everything about this speaker. The sound is great. The volume capacity is really loud. The battery lasts a very long time. The light flashing with the music is so cool. Appreciate the fact it is water resistant, so if splashes of water hit it I am not concerned.
