A: the back is the bass muffler, this rockbox xl is pretty loud it fills a space well, I have the jbl boombox which is twice the price of the rockbox xl. let me tell you something the rockbox xl is not far behind the jbl boombox in sound quality, im glad I bought the rockbox xl and im keeping it.
