Great deal for a near perfect box

Nothing wrong with its hardware, and was lucky to find it on sale. It seems to be one of 4 or 5 Chinese boxes being sold around $50. The good... signal strength indicator on both channel info and manual scan. Which is very helpful on antenna setup. Pass through option, so no need to use the internal modulator on Ch 3 or 4. Manual picture mode setting. Example, if your TV is 1080p or above, you can set the box to 1080i and use your TV to upscale or deinterlace better than the box. I have a 1080p TV and set my box to 720p, because most of the channels are 720p at best in my area. Not saying the box can upscale properly or deinterlace, just the TV will do a better job, unless it is cheap Visio, Walmart special. Box can power powered Antenna, but there are many antenna boosters that use their own external power input, which is not compatible. The difference being the box feeds power through the in line filtration, where as the external power connection on most boosters have DC blocking on the output filtration. The box has has a very good antenna pre amp stage. So a booster is not needed, if you obtain a 5db or 7db antenna and your TV towers are within 100 miles with limited obstruction, a booster would cause audio echo and screen cutouts. A booster probably would work with a 3db antenna. Signals that range around 48 to 52 on the scale and are stable enough, will have full functionality with this box. Pure digital pass through on HDMI, or selective pcm for down converstion. Games, yes like android hidden features on phones, the setup has games for days when nothing of interest is on the channels. My box has Sept 2020 firmware. It may have some fixes, most complain about with early pr pre 2020 boxes. I suggest obtaining an external drive. I use a hybrid SSD HD. Setup is fairly easy, remote is one of the better given on the various clones available. The only issue with remote, is that the button layout is a wee cumbersome on layout. Would prefer volume and channel more like a TV remote, higher up for easier use with thumb, when grabbed at the center. Stuff that is annoying... Region is off. Central time corresponds to Mountian time. Also no option to change 24hr clock to 12 hr clock. Some times, not often, you may need to power off with remote if signal strength drops for no apparent reason or becomes unstable. Unable to grab guide info on the fly, while on the fly while shifting between channel information. The only way to get quick results, is to get out of the guide, change the channel, then bring up the guide. Remote may effect some tv funtions. The mute button effects Samsung TV with AnyNet+, if held too long. Must quickly tap the mute button, else held down too long will cause disconnect with anynet+ and go to internal tuner. Support only issues firmware updates, when and if they choose to. No active support in keeping firmware downloads open to the public. All in all we don't use local broadcast much, so the box is not a primary area of concern when Prime Video, Netflix, Sling, TVPlayer, Crackle, Pluto, Tubi, Movies Anywhere and Vudu on my Shield TV. Just cheaper not to have what's free around me, be an expensive add-on to my packages. If you can get a good deal on it, it's a great bargain.

It's easy to connect everything, once you connect everything follow the instructions and it will guide you correctly. You might have to read it out loud to yourself to understand what exactly they want you to do. Once your set up it's fairly easy to record ...once again just follow the directions on how to record....If I had to be critique it would be not knowing how many gigs you'll need on a flash drive to record say a ballgame.

    Good tuner/recorder

The tuner/recorder works well. The remote, however, needs to be almost perfectly in line with the box, and the buttons are somewhat temperamental. Also, be aware that to get usable recordings, use a USB with a high write speed. I tried 4 different PNY USB flash drives, but none could not keep up with the streaming. The symptoms include a mosaic picture and the sound and video getting out of sync. I then tried Sandisk and the recordings are great.

The item works super great. ( It doesn't come with a hard drive) You will need to buy extra USB thumb drives to record live tv. I found if you buy the 30 gb thumb drives they work great and you can recorded entire movies. You might also want to look in to buying extra software if you wish to edit the recorded tv shows later on. I thought the device works great and the user manual was easy to understand to.

It was simple to install and tune in the channels. It offers good image quality. Before using, ensure you have a suitable antenna and remove the plastic from the box to prevent it from overheating and burning out.

    CURTIING THE CORD

    Posted .

This is a very simple PVR recorder. It's imperative to purchase a external memory disk at least 1 TB.Set up is a little complicated but intuitive.Needs a strong TV signal to work properly.Records audio digitally but not Dolby Digital;only in PCM format.Sometimes freezes and the unit needs to be unpluged for a few seconds or turn it off and on again. The front display is useless;only shows USB when recording or playing. The picture with a HDMI cable is superb. Unfortunatelly the broadcasters not always include the programming guide and setting recording is a guess. All the few inconveniences are nil comparing with not having to pay an arm and a leg for local TV.

    OTA unit for TVs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got this unit as an inexpensive way to process over the air digital broadcast signals to my home tv. It has HDMI, red/yellow/white input/output cords, and co-ax in/out ports, so it works with digital and analog tvs. It was VERY easy, almost intuitive, to scan for channels. I live in NW Illinois and it was able to receive Rockford and Quad City stations with a standard high gain roof antenna, not a digital tv antenna. It can record if you add a USB storage device. Pleased with this purchase!

    Over-the-air DVR

This over-the-air DVR has been working as desired. I love not having to rush home to watch a show because it is being recorded. The picture quality is lacking and the device locks up occasionally, and I have to reboot. But overall it is good. Also, the remote operates my electric fireplace (turns on fire and blutooth). The original fireplace remote is missing...so thx.

On my third one. Bought the store insurance this time. Inexpensive & works well until it doesn't. Last about a year so far, hence recommend the insurance. Great for what we use it for, Recording Antenna feed TV shows to a storage stick. One time unit died. Next time remote died. Less than $50 so repair not offered.

So far so good. The instructions are basically useless. I noticed one comment that mentioned the clear plastic covering on the unit. The plastic completely covers the vent ducts on the unit. It is not easy to see and if Not removed will undoubtedly cause the unit to fail. The “instructions” make no mention of the plastic covering. No instructions on how to remove unwanted channels. Two tuner function is hokey at best. YouTube has a review that explains the two tuner functionality better than I can.

I bought this Converter Box to record "over the air" broadcast TV programs; it has served this purpose with no issues. If you're not Tech savvy or don't enjoy fiddling with electronics, the procedure for setting this up for recording and playback may prove to be a little confusing. I found a quick video on YouTube (may have been created by Aluratek or another converter box company); this proved to be quite helpful.

    Dual Tuner DVR Falls Short

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I just bought this dual tuner over the air dvr and I was initially happy with my purchase. That is until this box started to reboot itself during my programs. It's possible that I received a faulty unit but due to this issue, it's safe to say that this problem is probably present in other units as well. I will be returning the dvr to best buy this week.
