I previously purchased a first generation Echo and Dot. I have automated lights, HVAC and sprinkler system and use Alexa to control each. This purchase was for additional units to cover my entire house. The sound from the second generation speakers is pretty good. I have linked them all and enjoy whole house music. This technology is both useful and amusing.

Using it to turn lights on and off, play music, weather, travel, sports scores and such. Tried setting it up to work with Nest thermostat, but didn't seem to work right so took it off. Sound is good, but when we want music to sound good, we connect it to our Bose.

I already own 3 Echo Dots (2nd generation, all bought when they were on sale) that are connected to speakers or audio systems because the sound quality of the Dot’s speaker isn’t good enough for music. I recently bought the newest Dot (also on sale) and the sound quality was good enough for short sessions of casual listening but still not great. But it is good enough that I decided to try the Echo. And I’m glad I did. Considering the size and price of this smart speaker, the sound was a pleasant surprise. Of course it’s not as full as a multi-speaker sound system, but it’s a lot faster to tell Alexa to play Spotify, Sirius, or Audible and get immediate results. The bass response is strong enough to make the table vibrate (you can’t see or hear the vibration, but you can feel it). Yes, the bass can sound somewhat muddy or restricted at times, but it’s not bad enough to bother me. It’s a trade-off of convenience and audio quality. The high end is quite good as long as you don’t crank the volume to the very highest level. Depending on the music, that can get a little harsh. But the clarity overall is pretty good for midrange and high end. Remember, it’s a very small speaker and it’s not very expensive. It is not an audiophile speaker and it doesn’t claim to be. And unlike a Bluetooth speaker, it doesn’t rely on your phone, though you can use your phone to control the content you stream (such as Spotify). Echo devices support Apple Music now, but support and controlling the music is quite limited compared to Spotify. You have to do it all with voice commands. Hopefully Apple and Amazon will work on improving the integration of Apple Music. It supports all the services that any Echo device does and the microphones are good enough that they can hear you from across a room even if the speaker is playing music, or if your TV is on. For the money, and considering everything it does besides just playing music, I think this is a great speaker.

Smaller than the previous model but sounds the same and sometimes better. I miss the volume ring on the top which made it easy to turn it down without looking or in low light situations. Amazon is constantly adding features so at some point there will be something for everyone. This is a must have for anyone who is or wants to be in the Amazon ecosystem.

alexa readily answers most of my queries. no need to open my laptop or whip out my phone for simple questions. it is so very convenient for adding things to my shopping lists, helping with reminders and tomorrow's appointments. the sound is excellent for such a small thing and i use it to lull me to sleep with ambient sounds. just wonderful

Very pleased with speakers, designs, output and performance

i bought this for my wife because she wanted a kitchen radio. This not only fulfilled that need but provided us some laughs the more we got acquainted with Alexa. Absolutely amazing technology for a couple of people who sometimes think things are moving too fast but we really enjoy it. We plan to add some accessories as soon as we can.

For those who like to get information quickly, the Amazon Echo is an easy way to get the information. Simply ask Alexa and you will get a response. Everything from jokes, to weather to news or one of my favorites I heart radio. Just ask for the I heart radio station and you can get stations from all over the US playing in great sound.

Great device with outstanding sound. Very easy to begin

I got an Echo dot for my birthday this year and loved it right from the beginning. I use it for music and sounds to sleep at night and can set a sleep timer for it to turn off automatically. I purchased the regular Echo when the room to room calling feature was added to connect my room to the rest of the house and it's awesome.

This has to be one of my favorite purchases in the last 6 months easily. This Amazon Echo is unbelievable. I'm glad I made this purchase. Alexa is better than I expected her to be. Much better than other voice assistants around. She smart and can be unpredictable at times. The Alexa companion app is also useful and helps you get and stay connected to WiFi. Alexa skills are somewhat leaps and bounds ahead of other competitors currently in the Voice Assistant market. All you have to do is just ask Alexa (which the code word can be changed in the settings of the companion app) anything and she's right there to help. The Amazon Echo is also an amazing bluetooth speaker. Even while being used as a speaker, Alexa is only a call away just by saying her name. And speaking of calls, you can sync you contacts with the Echo and it will call anyone on your contact list. At the moment the possibilities are endless with the Amazon Echo and I'm glad I purchased it when I did, especially at the price I got it for. I would recommend anyone that's wanting to get into the smart home entry, this is an easy way to get into the smart home industry.

Excellent speakers, designs, output, and performance

I am a huge apple fan, so I bought this product already biased against it. But it really shocked me. I use it every day now. It is even my new alarm clock. I have it on my desk next to my computer and it is perfect sized for bedroom or office. Set up was easy and I am really considering getting more for Christmas presents.

I bought this for myself and I just love it. So easy to set up..it is like having a maid in the house to do things for you..just tell Alexa to play music..no getting up and turn on the radio..love I can tell her to turn on and off my living room lamp..also if you feel the need to talk to someone Alexa is there for you..

I was recommended to purchase this by a business mentor to simplify our life, not really believing it would make a significant change. I was wrong! We've been using this daily for organizing lists: groceries, travels, etc. It also comes in handy for simple things like kitchen timers, checking the weather or asking the time (when I'm not near my watch/phone). Our two-year-old has figured out how to ask Alexa to play the Frozen soundtrack, so I'm pretty sure this is easy enough for anyone to use. We didn't think of ourselves as high tech enough for a "smart home," but the Echo is making it seem easy enough, and we'll likely incorporate a few more smart items into our home as the months progress.
