The sound quality is phenomenal! I like the Echo because it has a built-in smart home hub so I can connect my smart devices to the nearest Echo. We now have 2 Echos, 1 Studio and a Samsung SmartThings hub all handling each of about 30+ smart devices. Get it when it's on sale and it's a great value, even if you just use it as a speaker.

Sound quality very good, fills large room with very full sound. I purchased for music and to use as doorbell chime and both work well. Also find myself using the timer and asking Alexa about the weather.

When I first set up this device, I was having microphone communication issues with my Echo (4th Gen). I had to yell at it to get it to hear me, especially if I was playing music loud through it. I saw this same issue mentioned in some other online reviews of this device. I was planning on repackaging it and returning it in exchange for an Echo Dot (3rd Gen). I already have a Dot for the bedroom and it works like a champ. After a little research online, I took the advise of a website that problem solves Echo issues, and unplugged the power for a bit so it could reset itself. After replugging it in and allowing it to reboot, the microphones work perfectly and are actually more sensitive than the Dot.
After some experimenting with the EQ, I found the Echo (4th Gen) with premium sound sounds best (to my ears) with Bass @ 6, Mids @ 1, and Treble @ 5. The Echo (4th Gen) with premium sound does have superior sound compared to all the other models, except the Echo Studio, and is vastly better sounding than my Echo Dot. I sometimes run the Echo into my home entertainment center via Bluetooth for even better sound.
The moral to this story is: If you run into microphone sensitivity issues and have to yell for the device to hear you, try the solution I used before returning it back to where you got it. Once it's working like it should, you'll be glad you kept it.

I bought this 4th gen echo with built in hub for myself for my room previously buying the 3rd gen for granddaughters room and dot for kitchen. I love the round look of this new one and looks great with my decor. some reviews said huge but I don’t think so and have no problems when speaking to, saying because I saw in other reviews that alexa wouldn’t respond and had to keep repeating. I can whisper and responds every time. Comparing the two tho I don’t see alot of difference in sound, maybe a little more bass but both are very good, crisp clear sound. Very satisfied and recommend. Now have one in almost every room and can connect to hear music all over house or talk to someone in another room if I don’t want to yell. Nice.

I think this is the best echo dot just yet. The sound quality, the size, the sleekness. I like that it matches the overall aesthetic of our home. Overall, it really is the perfect one.

This speaker is impressive! Sound is super clear and rich and it punches a surprising amount of deep bass for its size, and it’s loud!

After having the 3rd generation of the Echo Dot, which I absolutely loved. I decided I wanted to go for something that could fill a room with sound. The Echo does absolutely that at a great price, and it sounds leagues better than the evenly priced JBL Flip 6.

I bought this for my Gas Station and it has been a wonderful addition to the team. It’s great for playing music with the wonderful sound quality and bass it provides, wonderful at helping my employees stay on a cleaning schedule with daily reminders I can set through the Alexa app and last but not least, at any moment I can drop in on the store using the Alexa app, I can speak and listen to the cashiers at any time.

The Echo 4th Gen with premium sound delivers impressive audio quality—rich bass, clear vocals, and great volume for its size. Alexa responds quickly and integrates well with smart home devices. Setup was easy. Only reason for 4 stars: occasional connectivity hiccups. Still a fantastic smart speaker for music and more!

Surprisingly loud. I didn't expect this speaker to be clear and loud. I originally purchased to use with my Tapo cameras so I can view the feed on my tvs

I resisted buying Alexa and Echo devices for a long time, but the benefits of this product are that it includes the ZIGBEE HUB which can replace additional hubs for smart lights and other home smart devices. Our outdoor lights now are all "SMART" and have been scheduled to go on at dusk and off at dawn. It's great too if we're all out later than expected as the lights come on without us being at home on schedule.
I'm using this now for more things than I expected. One of the most enjoyable features is the ability for the device to "READ" books out loud - I use the free LIBBY app that gives access to free books from libraries.
My family lives together in a 3 story house. The other thing these devices have done is stopped us from either having to SCREAM to get each other or to use a telephone to call each other... now since we have a variety of Echo devices from the basement to the 3rd floor we can speak to each other with ease whenever. We can also use it to make a phone call - we haven't had an emergency use yet and hope not to, but it's nice to know that even if one of us is home alone we can always call each other, or the list of special contact numbers we've added to the list of important people to call.
And the RADIO! If you know the call letters for any radio station in the world you can call it up and listen in the privacy of your own room, OR if we're together at dinner, we call call for music on a radio station or Pandora app to play. For a couple of us that really love to listen to music, we have two Amazon devices in our rooms so we get a STEREO effect. And on the first floor we created a "GROUP" so we have the option of playing music on just one device OR we can play for the "first floor group" to have surrounding sound on the entire floor.
We got rid of so many extra devices as this has replaced a few.
Like radios and alarm clocks.
We put one of these on each floor, and one of the tiny Amazon FLEX (smaller than a pack of cigarettes and not as good a sound) in the basement.
