If you’ve been wanting a “smart speaker”, then you can’t go wrong with the Echo Dot. It’s the full-sized Echo simply packed into a smaller package. It can do everything it’s more expensive sibling can do, including get you weather and news reports, set timers and reminders, answer questions, play music, play games, control smart home appliances, purchase things from Amazon, and more. The only reason why you might want the full Echo over the dot is if you play a lot of music and don’t have a decent speaker system already in your house. You might also want the full Echo if you’re planning on putting one in a large room. However, I’ve had no issues with my Dot hearing me in my living room. The sound quality is not that great, but you shouldn’t expect it to be. The good news is that’s you can plug some external speakers in via Line-in, or connect some with Bluetooth. All in all, the Echo Dot is a great speaker and home assistant for the price, and it’s quickly becoming a must-have for any household.

Her name is Alexa and she lives in her home called the Echo Dot. She is quite helpful. She sets timers, plays games with me, teaches me new things she is curious about as well as helps me entertain my 1 year old by playing children’s music with a simple request. She is also helpful by being able to to turn on lights and my Christmas tree. She is awesome. She is housed in a VAUX (battery/speaker housing) that makes her portable around the home.

I returned the large Echo and purchased the Dot. I did not need the surround sound system, but the sound quality was great. The Dot does the same thing and takes up less space. The Dot has to be trained, so please read the directions and watch the YouTube videos. Great to used when your hands are not free

Great purchase! Alexa is amazingly helpful, especially if you have any smart devices in your home, such as lighting. Sure, I could easily get out of bed to turn the lights off, but this is 2017! No more stubbing my toe on the dresser or side of the bed in the dark! That reason alone makes it worth it!

I have the Echo and this is my second Dot. The Dot seems to be a smaller version of the echo with tinnier sound where the Echo sounds full and rich for it's size. The Dot has been selling for $29 verses the $79 for the Echo. It works well with home integration. You can set up your Dot to run routines by speaking a command. For example you can say Alexa "good morning" and if it connected to a smart switch it can be set to turn on a light and give you the morning news or weather. There so many capabilities that the Dot has for both the novice and the expert alike. I only gave the Dot four stars because of the sound quality.

Bought as a Christmas present for my wife and it seems to work as well as her daughter's original Echo.

I bought this as a gift for my wife to have in the bedroom. Mostly for integrating our two bedside lights. I also bought the Philips lights for the Hue systems and the EchoDot worked seamlessly into it. We love it!! The added bonus of having Alexa play music or Jeopardy or tell us the weather is awesome!
