If you dont want the Echo this is a great substitute. It does EVERYTHING the echo does, the speaker is not that great but this product is meant to be an addition or bluetooth. I can be 3 room away and it still hears me just fine. Its small, discreet, and very handy.

Alexa can't do much, yet, but they keep giving it more skills. She's cute and fun to play with, so was worth the small investment. However, she has paired with my computer rather than with the speaker I wanted her to pair with, and her pairing with my lamp leaves much to be desired. Sometimes she will just turn it on or off on her whim, and other times she will say OK but not turn it on or off until I say her name in a threatening way. Still, she is more competent than some staff members I have supervised and she has a lovely voice/attitude.

Setup was fairly simple and easy to use. Depending on your accent depends on whether or not she understands you, haha. Overall great product.

Currently only use the echo dot, but will probably get the full sized echo eventually as I think this works better as an addition, but maybe not as the stand alone device. Would be perfect for an office or bedroom setting, but not great in a more open space such as kitchen/living. Having said this, its easy to use and very intuitive, happy to have purchased.

I am happy to finally have the Echo Dot. I have used one at my daughters home.

The product itself isn't a bad product, what is annoying about the entire Amazon Echo family is that you can only register it with a phone number. If you are a prime member with your phone number linked to your account you will have to call Amazon to have it unlinked. Now, you have 2 accounts. One with your email and the other with your phone number. Another hassle is all the apps you have to download and register with so the device will control lights and electrical outlets. All of the skills the Amazon Echo has the potential to have are really cool, although every single skill you have to enable also comes with it's own language you have to use to communicate with Alexa. It is terribly confusing and frustrating to try to get Alexa to use the skills you enable. You must use exact phrases to access the skill you are interested in utilizing. I do really love the Amazon Echo and it's functions. I literally played with it the entire time, from wake to sleep, for 24 hours. My 7 year old has made a best friend. Alexa will: tell you how to spell a word, quizzes kids on math & other facts, plays music in seconds while you're hands are full, makes grocery or to-do lists, notifies when a package is or will be delivered, offers amusement with jokes and educational information, reads stories to children, connects to Alexa remotes, daily updates (news, weather, sports, daily vocabulary, & much more), makes phone calls & texts to contracts, you can pair it with other Amazon Echo devices to play music throughout the house, and SO much more. This device is also easy for the elderly to use once it's setup and they can contact 911 in case of a fall or injury.

For the price it can't be beat. Great for controlling things around the house.

Well built but the speaker is rather tinny. However it does have Bluetooth and a mini jack allowing you to attach a bigger speaker or system.

Absolutely love the Echo Dot. Although it is small the speaker is really good.
