The echo dot is a very versatile and discreet device. It has ample range for a small to even large size room but has to be located optimally in a place that can be reached by your voice and away from noise sources such as TV. It picks up your voice consistently even with ambient or even moderate noise. It can get confused if you don't set up alternate words to it's skills, and will make any sane person frustrated when trying to command it to do something simple. To set the additional words can be cumbersome and therefore the minus 1 star. The sound for playing music using music everywhere feature is neat but lacks any sort of decent bass for a party setting. The sonos would be much better at that. Functionally, it's great for alexa tasks controlling a smart home. Ours is paired with a smartthings hub and several appliances that it supports: hue, linear garage door opener, kwikset locks, and switches that control recess lighting. We have an echo is every room and for the price, it's affordable to have smart home access virtually anywhere in your house!

The Amazon Echo dot is an excellent product. It can be used to amplify any device with Bluetooth capabilities. My only two problems are that the volume is not very high and it will not allow for dual play( you can not sync with Echo to play simultaneously. The dot will only use the Echo and vice versa as a Bluetooth speaker.

My main gripe of the Echo was that it stood out in a room and really needed to be a central location. Now with the Echo Dot, you can easily add Alexa to any room that could benefit. For us it was a room with a smart bulb but was far enough away that we had to yell into the living room to have Alexa turn it on. No longer. I placed it in a hallway and the Dot can cover smart home items in adjacent rooms. I also move it to the Kitchen when I'm cooking so I can hear my news briefing or have music playing. You do sacrifice audio quality with this model compared to the full Echo, but it is to be expected with the affordable price. I highly recommend it for someone who already has an Echo and would like to use the features in different parts of the house.

Got this as a gift for my husband who is not tech savvy. Now he uses this and his blue tooth speaker. He loves it!

My daughter really likes it. The voice recognition is great. Sound isn’t great but it’s good for a small speaker

The dot is an awesome addition to our home we have 3 floors so we have a dot on 2 floors and the echo on the 3rd, you can listen to music from anywhere in the home and it's cool that it also works with our satellite tv

Build quality is pretty good and a step above most cheap Bluetooth speakers. I'd also keep an eye out for the various Alexa-only discounts and coupons that are on offer. Most of these entail, something like "Alexa, order me X product" or some variation of that. This device can pretty much pay for itself after 2-3 such offers.
