It is a good smart home assistant speaker but I don't think the voice recognition is quite as good as advertised when you aren't close to the speaker. I like how you can set it up play music and control lights, plugs, etc. Built in speaker isn't great but at least is half bluetooth and 3.5mm out connections

I had one given to me last Christmas and I am giving four myself to others to enjoy this Christmas. So much entertainment and wisdom can be gained. I really liked Alexa when I had surgery and was laid up in house for weeks by my self. Definitely endless skills always being learned and she lights up your intelligent world / mind.

This is my first Amazon product with the built in feature of "Alexa" and I must say it is a life saver! At first I was skeptical of having to say "Alexa, do this" "Alexa, do that" but with a new born I wanted something that can help me with reminders, alarms, play lullaby radio on pandora. This was the best thing I could have purchased for our need. Now I can multitask without having to use Siri on my phone and best of all hands free. The sound quality is decent for our purpose since the music is played at a low volume. I have even upgraded the lights in the nursery using Phillips hue hub and now I can say commands such as " turn on, turn off, dim lights to 10%". We will be getting more for around the house, highly recommend it.

This surprisingly is louder than I thought it would be. Not good for bass tho. Can hear clearly when showering.

Use as a room to room intercom system. Play music. Set up routines you want to hear when you wake up like weather, commute time to work. Intergrate smart home devices (like lights) to turn on when you wake up!

Picked one of these up to test out how well it would work for Home Automation purposes. Not (yet) being in the Amazon ecco system home automation was my main concern, with other features being a bonus or novelty. The Echo dot was able to add my home automation hub (SmartThings) easily and I was able to control my lights and fans with voice controls in minutes. For security reasons doors can not be controlled, you would want someone to yell "Alexa, unlock the front door" from outside your house and be able to walk right in. The short coming right now are that there are no push capabilities, meaning that you can't trigger Alexa to do something based on some other real world event. The skill marketplace is also flooded with useless trivia apps making it hard to discover more useful items. Lastly the iOS app, while it serves its purpose, could use some polish. The short comings where pretty minor in my opinion, and I've been very happy with my purchase. Alexa easily ties in with my home and understands my family with a high level of accuracy, which is more than I can say for other voice assistants.

Got my Dot about a month ago and can't say that I like it.... I love it! A bit complicated to set up but, once u do it's great! She orders me pizza and plays my spotify and gives me the news in the AM. Great product

Provides news reports when asked. Able to turn on/off devices like web enabled lights or even our washer and dryer! Even plays music and answers questions asked. You need to have this device.

Purchased for my son for Christmas, he loves it. Allows him to play music and check spelling set alarms. He could purchase items with it on my account and autherisation. Amazon the leader in this space for sure

This is our first Alexa enabled device. The Echo Dot sounds great hooked up to external speakers. We do not regret getting the Dot over the full size Echo. We mostly use it to stream Pandora and Sirius XM as well as to control a couple of Smart Home devices. It does the job and does it well most of the time.
