I was looking for a bluetooth speaker and decided to try echo for its smart capabilities. It has a decent speaker loud enough to fill my living room. I haven't used its smart capabilities as much as I would like to. It has been just the usual stuff i.e. weather, play music, tell me a joke, etc. I would love to explore it more. There have already been times when it doesn't understand my query or the search results leave me disappointed. However, it does leave you wondered how far technology has come in past few years!!! Worth a purchase for sure..

My son has the echo and I wanted the features without the higher price. The dot is the perfect solution. It's everything that the Echo can do with a much smaller form factor and with speakers that are more than adequate for music (unless you're too picky about sound, then just connect a bluetooth speaker.) So happy, I bought another for my wife who has already set it up to turn on the coffeemaker in the a.m.

Works pretty good. Need to use more often to get used to it. Works great with pandora

My family love the Echo. It works great and meets our needs. We purchased two one for downstairs and upstairs. Will probably get a 3rd for our daughters room.

I bought the dot for my bedroom a sweater I already have it's big sister in my living room. Easy to set up and a breeze to use... just like the regular echo. Only difference is that it doesn't have a decent speaker. This can be alleviated by using an external speaker (Bluetooth or aux cable). She wakes me with repeatable alarms, works with my smart home devices, plays music and ambient sounds for sleep.

Fun addition and helpful getting weather reports while getting ready in the morning just by asking. I haven’t explored all the abilities but so far I love this!

I have been slowly but surely outfitting each room in my house with Hue White light bulbs. I can't justify the cost of the $50 color changing Hue bulbs so I have been getting the White bulbs at about $15 dollars each. I thought it would be fun to voice control them with the Echo but again thought at $179 it was too expensive for my thrifty DIY mindset. When I saw that the 2nd generation Dot was available for $50 I went ahead and purchased it. Now I can voice control most of the lights on my house for around $300(8 of the Hue bulbs, a couple of remotes, and second gen hub).

Bought this to control my fire tv stick and smart outlets .Fire stick control is limited, but d-link smart device control works well. Media search is ok, but general knowledge stuff is nothing like Google. I expect it will improve over time.

Setting up the Echo Dot had a few bumps but patience paid off and I figured things out. I know there is a lot more that can be done with this device and hopefully I will expand my knowledge but for now it is great to check weather, request music, set an alarm or timer and get answer to questions. Grandkids love to ask for jokes. I have been looking into the option of using Echo Dot to turn lights on/off but need to do more research before taking that next step! I don't have my Echo Dot attached to any external or additional speakers as it meets my needs just as it is!

Just the low maintenance easy to use ability to play almost any song I want , not via my phone . The weather, i don't have to go to my phone. So I know how to dress my daughter. This was a gift to my daughter because she was always asking questions I could not answer. It could be a little louder, could answer more questions like translations, and some songs are not available without further purchase.

My daughter got this for Xmas and she couldn't be happier with it. She uses it in conjunction worth her phone and uses it for music, internet, and alarms.

I recently purchased the echo dot for Xmas to set up some home automation lighting. It was the best decision I could have made. I was able to setup my lighting to turn on and off when I arrive and leave my house. No longer have to walk into a dark house and fumble for a light switch when I get home. I am also able to use the echo dot or my iPhone or activate a light in my house with a simple voice command.

I'll keep this brief...want to save about a hundred bucks ? Opt for the Dot. It does the exact same thing- sound quality with music playback is slightly better with the Echo but if you have a decent Bluetooth speaker you can pair it...I paired mine with a JBL Flip and the sound surpasses the Echo. Other than that - exactly the same. Full disclosure - I own an Echo and two Dots absolutely love them (both)

I like the Echo Dot. Setup can be difficult depending on what you want to do with the echo. Setting up some skills is easy. Other skills can be extremely difficult. I recommend the echo dot.

First time owing an echo, and look forward to know everything I can ask my echo dot. I learned how to set up reminders too very helpful with my busy schedule.

I really like my Amazon Echo Dot and got it on a deal - half the regular price which was also an added plus. I have not used it yet for all it can do but it serves the purpose for which I bought it which is to listen to the radio stations I like, especially in the morning and to set alarms and other things. . The only thing I am somewhat disappointed about is that the volume does not go loud enough. I plan to add a portable bluetooth speaker, Bose preferably, when I can justify the price to myself. All said, the Echo Dot is practical and fun!

The dot is perfect for kids and small rooms where you need background noise

It;s not as smart as you may think. Try to ask Dot for a synopsis of a movie and it replies it doen't know. Also at times it doesn't know if a football game is being played that night. And it doesn't understand when I tell it "you're no help!"

It's nicer then the bigger one, I can link it to my LG soundboard and it sounds awesome
