We have one full sized Echo's and now three Echo Dots. We have put them in different rooms, allowing for complete control of our lighting and heating/cooling. Two of the Dots are hooked up via bluetooth to external speakers (Altec Lansing), which makes it easy to call up music. Just say "Alexa, Play Foghat", and Alexa looks into iHeart Radio for Foghat.. Feeling a little chilled, "Alexa, Set the temperature in the Nest to 69." Set alarms and timers. Just know that each echo is independent of the others, when you tell Alexa to play music or set a timer, it is on that echo only. Though when I tell Alexa to turn off ALL lights, my Wink enabled lights all turn off. Getting smarter all the time, The Echo, not me..... I bought one for each of my adult children for Christmas. You do not need the Full Sized echo for these to work. You also do not need a separate bluetooth speaker, as these have a small speaker built in. I do like the improved sound of the add on speakers, but not needed!

This was easy to set up and begin using. Sound quality is better than I expected. Fun to use!

Bought this for my father and could not be happier. Setting up the Echo Dot was simple and straightforward and now he can have convenient access morning news, music, and weather. I know that's just the beginning of what this little device can do but it already feels worth the purchase.

This is an excellent tool with many features that make things more convenient around the house. We use it to turn a light off and on in our bedroom using a WeMo switch, playing music, setting timers, weather, listening to radio stations, playing rain sounds at night to sleep, jokes, etc.

I enjoy using the Amozon Dot. The Price is so great. I am giving each of my family members one for Christmas. It have all /lots of features like the Echo. it's small and convenient that's what so great about it and it's a new generation. 2nd Work like the Amazon echo but without the bulk.

It can turn on a blue tooth sound system. Then I can tell it what music I want to listen to.

I love my Alexa she is interactive , she can set my alarm , plays my shows and lets me do drop in voice messages for my dogs . Echo dot is pretty cool but limited. While echo dot ca control many things in the home by just saying Alexa “...” , you need the gadgets to make it work. Echo dot by itself it’s pretty useless but combined with other amazon gadgets it’s pretty awesome .

We bought the Echo Dot and hooked it up right away. With the free phone App even an idiot can do it. I fall into that category regarding electronics. We had it in our living room for less than a week and loved it so much, we went back and bought the Echo Plus. Echo Plus is perfect for a big room while the Echo Dot is great for a bedroom or office. Both are absolutely fantastic!! Wish we'd done this a long time ago.

The echo dot is everything it say it is. Get sport score just by asking. Plays music through speakers. Date time weather anything you ask and you get a answer.

We get so much use from our Echo Dot. We have our furnace thermostat set up with Alexa along with kitchen, living room, and bedroom lights connected. Got a song I want to hear, I just ask Alexa to play it or a whole playlist. I connect my bluetooth Bose speaker to it. Order household goods, weather reports for here or anywhere, play Jeopardy. Well worth the 25 bucks!!

This is my 3rd Dot now and very happy with the Dots to go along with my 2nd gen echo and echo plus. I started with the echo dot this time last year and was very happy with it to control my Philip's Hue HUB and Philip's lights. I now have Philip's Hue lights replacing all light's throughput the house. Use them at vacation time to turn light's on and off while we are gone to provide a live in look while we are gone!

The Echo Dot is small enough and inexpensive enough to purchase and use in numerous places.

I bought this for my parents and helped them set it up. Fairly simple to setup with a tablet or smartphone. My mom loves the easy voice activated timer, as it saves time over manually setting one in the kitchen. It can answer most questions, but if you get technical it will not have a answer. I asked a few questions that it did not have a answer for, but I assume this will get better over time as the question/answer data base is built. In the future I plan on helping them set up a Hub with WiFi smart-plugs so they can turn on/off the Christmas lights with voice command, as this a time consuming task. Also plan to add a WiFi thermostat so they can easily change temperature, and a few smart-switches to turn on/off a few lights. I gave it 5 stars even though it did not answer all the questions, but the questions it did answer were spot on. The only negative I could think is it may be a little more difficult to set-up for older people that are not electronic/computer savvy.

I love this product. Just the right size. Can add Pandora. Great purchase and great price.

Nice small, compact size (and price) that fits into any room without standing out. Voice commands work well. Connected seamlessly to my Wemo switches so I can control lights, coffee pot, etc using my voice. Can tell Alexa to add groceries to my shopping list app on my iphone too. Haven't yet tried some of the other features like voice recognition, purchasing using the Dot but am anxious to try them all out.

For 30 bucks you can put Alexa in every room. Purchased this for my father along with a sound bar. He loves it. Every time I come over to visit he has some song playing from the Amazon Music store. Configured the unit to allow him to call me from the Alexa. Gives me the peace of mind that if he falls and gets hurt he can say Alexa help! And the unit will call me / text me (ifttt) / email me all in one shot.

I'm usually more of an Apple (Siri) or Google kind of person when it comes to technology but this device is pretty cool at modernizing my home. I received this device for FREE when I purchased my "Honeywell - Lyric™ T5 WiFi Thermostat - Dark Gray". I waited almost a month before even connecting up this device but I'm very glad that I finally got around to it. I plugged the output speaker connection into an old JBL iPod Loudspeaker system in our living room and it works great. Both Alexa and music sound considerably better with this connection than the built-in speaker. Connection to the Alexa app on my iPhone and to my two thermostats was easy. Adding iHeart Radio capabilities for music and radio stations was also simple. I may eventually connect up to Spotify or Pandora to improve my music choices even more. Home lighting and other controls might be added if I continue to like this device. Control of the music features is not quite as intuitive as I would like; it seems to clutter the Alexa app history with every single change (I would have only taken off 0.5 stars if that was available but I had to reduce to 4-star instead). Using this device to get news, weather, or other information as well as control music and temperature is a nice step towards a more "Star Trek" technology level inside my own home. I love it!

I bought an echo originally but wanted to get the dot for the bathroom and other areas of the house. I am guessing my first mistake was getting the echo first because the echo compared to the echo dot is a major difference when it comes to speaker quality. The echo dot is great and does what it needs to do but comes nowhere close to the echo's speaker and volume. I was a little disappointed by the lack of volume since when I am in the shower, I like to actually hear my music over the water and my terrible singing voice, but that is my preference. Overall it was a great buy.

Easy to us device. Works great with the Vivint System from Bestbuy with home automation.
