The Echo Dot is a hands-free smart home device with voice-control. You can play music, set appointments, create shopping lists, get traffic and weather reports, has alarm clock and timer and much more. Even though it is small, it has a decent built in speaker. It works great and is a good investment and we are very happy with the Echo Dot.

Great, really easy set up, connects to your device in seconds, I'm using with IOS no problem. Sort of device you don't think you'll use until you get it, then you use it all the time. "How long will it take to drive to.. right now", is a such and such a reptile.... play me Christmas hits of the 80s... turn my heating to 74... and so on.

Purchased two of these units as gifts for my parents who are retired. Very easy to set up and was impressed by the sound quality of the Dot. My father who wears hearing aids and a bit hard of hearing didn't have any issues with hearing Alexa. He is not very techie but has enjoyed playing music, Jeopardy, sports briefings etc. The only part I feel that takes some getting used to is how to ask questions searching Bing. I'm fairly savvy when searching the internet but had some challenges with the inquiries myself. I think it will just take some getting used to and practice. Other than that...a very cool device! Worth the money!

I already owned an Echo Dot when I purchased this one. I use it to control my lights, my Harmony Hub, and my smart plugs. It also has great apps. The speaker is poor, so I suggest getting the regular Echo if you plan to stream music. I hooked mine up to a pair of Bose speakers, so there was no reason for me to get the higher end model.

I really enjoy having Alexa in the home. I do wish Amazon, Google, and Apple would start playing nice so the consumer could set up a total smart environment. I think Amazon has a leg up right now as the Echo is very easy to set up, has more IoT devices available without the hub requirement, and access to amazon prime shopping, music, kindle, etc... just makes it the best bang for your buck right now. Bought these for everyone in my family and all my friends for Christmas!

We bought the Dot to go along with the Echo we already had and it's been a great addition. It does almost everything the Echo does, and some things the Echo doesn't do) for about a third of the price. I already knew the speaker system in the Dot was not up to par with the Echo so I don't think it's fair to derate a product for something it wasn't intended to do. You WILL need an external speaker to listen to quality music on the Dot, but it's not necessary on the Echo. However, my biggest complaint with the Dot is its integration with the Echo. Currently, I can find no way of tying all the Dots and the Echo together to make a home wide system. There's no reason it can't work as a paging system or interact with each other. For instance, I should be able to say, "Alexa, tell son's Dot to tell him to come downstairs" and it should repeat that on his Dot. I would also like to be able to say, "Alexa, remind my bedroom Dot to set an alarm for 7:00 AM". The Dot does what it's intended to do very well and it's a great, affordable alternative to the Echo. However, I think it makes more sense to have them as accessories for an entire smart home.

I was hearing a lot from family and friends how they really liked the echo. After reading some of the reviews on how the echo responded with voice commands, alarms and music, I decided to give it a try. I really like it, I used it to control other devices, alarm, radio, phone and able to use it with spodify. Overall its a good product/

This is Siri x 100... it will stream music from my itunes, make a call, send a text, sets alarms, puts appointments in my google calendar... syncs with everything and if you have smart appliances or smart plugs or lighting Alexa works with all of it. I’ve bought 8 of these, some are Christmas gifts. If I could give 10 stars I would.

I used the Dot primarily for music. It was easy to set up and it has taken over a collection of clunky speakers I had. So far so good. I like that it saved me space and I can listen to music without having to go on YouTube.

I got an Echo Dot to control my Hue lights. It seems like such a simple device, but I've integrated Alexa into my daily life, including having her control my Roomba, my Nest thermostat, my Frigidaire AC, Hue lights, and more. I have the Dots now, and a Show, and the previous regular-size Echo, and am anxiously awaiting the Echo Spot.

This Echo Dot started my home automation obsession. Next, I got an Echo and Amazon Tap. Followed my Philips Hue lightbulbs, smart locks, Wink Hub, etc. So thank you Amazon! The Dot was easy to set up and it's user friendly. Great value for the price. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the sound quality is not amazing and Alexa has trouble answering questions sometimes. Other than that, I've been happy with my purchase. Definitely give it a shot!

the speaker could have been of better quality, works very well setup was easy. overall good product for the price

We already have a google home and a home mini, but when the echo dot went on sale we wanted to check it out as well. Haven't had a lot of time to play with it and of course it has a lot of the same features as the google counterparts, but so far it does seem to sound better than the google mini and the mic seems to pick up better!
