I like the dot much more than I do the full-size one mainly because I can hook up to Bluetooth speakers or I can plug headphone jack into my stereo system and they work just the same as the full-size ones but with many more features and a much lower cost

Maybe I'm not quite tech savvy enough, and I've not been an early adapter of the voice assistants (including the one on my phone), but Alexa and the Echo Dot seems to be more of a novelty than a true benefit in day-to-day things. Perhaps if I had more things, like lights and such, connected to my SmartThings hub, maybe it would help. The interface between the Echo Dot and my Fire TV is pretty rough, too. While there are, apparently, thousands of Alexa skills (think apps) out there, I've not found very many that actually seem beneficial. Yes, you can get news updates, jokes, and play games with the Echo Dot, but that's just entertaining, and not all that helpful. On the positive side, the Echo Dot was only $39.99, so I can give it more time to see if it becomes more useful as I play around with it and research possible skills I might find beneficial. I would not recommend it in general, but I marked it "recommend" as it does what it claims it will do It's a gd product if this is what you're looking for.

I purchased an Amazon Dot for my granddaughter’s birthday gift. I was fascinated with it and I decided to get one for myself. I love it! It not only tells me the weather and news everyday, but I get to listen to the type of music I love..just by asking!

I originally purchased this mainly to use as way to operate my Harmony hub with voice commands which works great. More and more though I've used it for other things. Very handy for timers, getting daily news headlines, and checking weather. I'm not even close to using it to its max potential so there's plenty more I'll be figuring out and working into my life.

I have an original Echo and brought this second one as an add on to the first. They both work great together to provide weather news and jokes. They can both also control lights with my WeMo power outlet. And for just $29 who couldn’t use another one.

The Echo Dot is awesome. I won't lie, I bought it completely for fun. I don't even have any "smart" things. Which does mean that I normally use it to play music, for weather, movie times, and Audible. But, I'd completely recommend it. You can hook so many things up even if you don't have "smart" things! And, Alexa makes for a really great bluetooth speaker. I mean, she's loud at the highest volume! You can ask her anything, as well. Seriously, the Echo is a cool piece of technology. If you're wondering if there's a negative to getting one, there's not, so just treat yourself and get one.

I was skeptical to jump on the “Home voice assistant” craze. Finally got one on sale. I love it! It’s so useful in the kitchen for converting measurements to setting times or in the morning to plan your outfit according to the weather. Definitely buy!

Without the need for a fancy speaker like the bigger units, I picked up the Amazon Echo Dot. It is small, unobtrusive yet very capable. I use mine with my smart home devices as well as online ordering through Amazon. Really, the simplest way to Alexa!

We have Amazon Alexa and added this to our home. It is a great addition. I like the room to room feature. I like being able to just tell it to play songs while i am in the room. It is amazing how fast it comes up with the answers to trivia questions.

Best gadget in the house. Voice command information warehouse. I'm always on the move even in my own home. Alexa gives info on nearly everything. Show times, weather, movie times. Plays music you want to hear. I'm only sorry i didn't get Alexa sooner

I was given a dot for Christmas last year and liked it so much I purchased this one for my 78 year old father. He absolutely loved being able to ask trivia questions and turn on the lights by voice. He gets such a kick out of it. We'll worth the $30.

Alexia has understood my voice and my children’s. We have enjoyed asking her to tell us a joke every morning. I have also never really used my amazon prime music before, but it is easy to listen to it on the echo just by asking alexia to play music.

They do work well with all my Leviton Light switches and Lifx bulbs. Playing music also works well but will only let you use one Spotify Account at a time to play from. Does not do the best if it is right next to the speaker it is attached to or near a loud fan, has a hard time hearing you. It also has a harder time understanding my kids more than the adults.

I got the amazon echo dot from Best Buy without many expectations. However after playing with it some and setting it up with my devices I can’t imaginenlife without it. It’s so easy to use and wonderfully convient. I highly recommend the investment

LOVE Alexa!!! I recently bought four of them. One on Black Friday and three on Cyber Monday. Pius mini plugs. It's lovely to be able to ask Alexa to turn on downstairs lights on these dark mornings and voilá. Done! I can ask for light the light on in the living room, kitchen or both. Same for turning off. Individually or grouped. I play Sirius XM and Spotify via Alexa too. Out of the four, I have one gimpy one, in my office. I have to repeat myself several times to add things to my list, and if my Echo Dot is asked to play Sirius XM... Or any music, it shuts off after a couple of minutes. Very annoying! It's on the strongest signal too. I'm thinking this little lady doesn't buck up her ideas, I'll put her on a bus as she'll be taking a trip back to Amazon for a replacement.

I had purchased an Amazon echo when it was first available, and grew to love it. The whole family love to ask Alexa questions. My kid ask the Dot for math homework help. The Dot blend in more to your home décor a little bit better than the Echo, because it's smaller. It's just as smart as the Echo. It can play music from Pandora, Spotify and your amazon prime music. If you get smart lights and outlets it can control those to. I love to use the shopping list. Just ask Alexa to put things on your shopping list, whenever you are shopping, your list is always with you. Dot is a must have.

Very cool gadget. You can set timer,alarm,to do and shopping lists and a lot more! Plays music and turn/off your lights when connected to a wifi plug.! Love it

With just having a little one I wanted to find something that could help control my smart devices around the house. So far so good as I am able to control lights, play Spotify and iTunes, and have been addicted to playing trivia games through Alexa.

Alexa is so much fun. Today is Christmas day, I connected my echo device to the tv. Sound bar and started playing Christmas music from my Amazon Prime music. Wow the music is amazing! And I can still continue asking Alexa many questions. Awesome!!

I bought this for my aunt who is initimidated by anything more advanced than a pocket calculator. After ignoring her repeated assertions that this is pointless technology, we brought it home and connected it with her favorite speaker used with her phonograph. Confident that my aunt would not compromise me the way a child will satisfy their in-App purchase urge with their parents credit card, I set her up on my Amazon Prime account. After a quick lesson in Echo sentence constructs and explaining that the interaction should be treated as if one is blind, I left her alone to explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence. Two days later, I received a call on my Echo from my aunt. She wanted to thank me for introducing her to this wonderful gift. She said that she had been conversing with Alexa for hours and that they are now close friends.
