Wanted to add some extra smart home devices, and thought that being able to control them by telling Alexa what I wanted to do would be fun. Have been completely pleased with the result, and also like the ability to "talk" to Alexa on the Echo Dot.

I love my Amazon Echo Dot! I can adjust my lights, play my favorite music, get news updates etc, just by talking to this magic hockey puck! It puts out great volume throughout my open-plan house, especially when it connects to my Bluetooth speakers.

These are awesome. I like the synch and intercom functions. The only reason why I didn’t give it a five start because they have to be plugged in. They sale other non-Amazon Alexa controlled devices that are rechargeable. A small device such as this should be able to function without a plug. I’m sure that will be the available in the newer models to come.

The Amazon dot is a great gift for those like myself who don't have any idea to get someone who seems to not need anything. The dot is constantly adding new features/commands that makes this the gift that keeps on giving. Its easy to set up and is small enough not to take up any counter space or desk space. While my mom uses it to make grocery lists as well as listen to music but she has been known to play a game or two with it as well (Jeopardy anyone lol). I highly recommend this small device if not for anything but to make someone's life a little easier.

Gotta love the Echo products. Use them everyday to turn on my lights, set timers, check the weather, etc. Must note that additional items will need to be purchased to run. Very easy to setup and will be giving them to each family member this year.

This was my first home automation product. The Amazon Dot was easy to set up and to use. It's responsive and quick. The speaker is what you would expect from the smallest item of this family. I was even able to get my non technical wife to use it!

I have an existing smart lights and so I thought of buying this to give Alexa a try. Definitely worth the try. I love Alexa that I can turn on/off my lights. Play some random music, etc. and got no issue connecting to any of my devices! Great buy!

Oh my goodness! I cannot imagine what I did BEFORE I had my Alexa Dot (and I now own 3 Dots and one Echo around the house). I am always asking questions, setting alarms and timers and playing great music! Works perfectly for me and she understands almost everything I say but I have a very clear voice and of course, it's all in how you phrase what you are asking for. LOVE IT! Highly recommend the Dot and in all honesty I like the sound quality of the Dot just as much as the Echo (which is not quite as clear to me - although great for music). Very happy with my purchase!!

Echo Dot is very simple to use... I puchased this item for my teenager... he uses it to set alarms, check weather, play music, ask Alexa questions etc...

I actually only bought an Echo Dot to gain vocal control over my Philips Hue smart bulbs. But this device has quickly become valuable for quite a bit more. The Echo Dot already quickly fulfilled my primary need - I feel like I'm straight out of "Star Trek" by walking into my living room, saying "Echo, turn on Living Room Lights," and having my Hue bulbs all come to life. But soon I stopped to realize how many darned questions pop in my head each day. That's where Echo Dot/Alexa shines. I no longer am flipping open my tablet and typing questions into a browser - whenever I see something curious on TV or find myself wondering if I remember a piece of trivia correctly, I can now just ask aloud and get an answer. As an Amazon Prime member I have access to Amazon Music. So I can also ask Alexa to "Play music from The Beatles on shuffle" and get a nice playlist rolling. While the volume on this speaker is mighty good for its size, the audio quality itself doesn't make for audiophile satisfaction. Luckily the Echo Dot can be connected to speakers or an A/V receiver (Bluetooth or via a 3.5mm cable) - so when listening to music I just connect the Dot to my receiver and that works out great. Sadly I don't have any comparison between the Echo Dot and its bigger siblings. But for my smallish living room this works perfectly (aside from listening to music, as described above). The volume range is good enough to hear from all around the living room or from my kitchen; and the Echo Dot catches what I'm saying even with my odd vocal twangs - I rarely ever have to repeat myself or focus on enunciating to be understood. The Alexa app does have a voice-training feature, though I haven't had need to use it. The only quirk I encountered: I have tablets that I wanted to utilize the Alexa app on, so I downloaded it onto one (Samsung Galaxy Tab S2) and then proceeded to perform the Echo Dot setup from there. Something was awry with how the app identified the available settings for the tablet: it was urging me to turn off some WiFi option on the tablet that didn't actually exist. So I initially could not get the Echo Dot added to my network. I had to install the App on my smartphone (Moto/Lenovo) and perform the setup from there. First-world problems lol; but once I completed the Echo Dot setup on my phone its settings were accessible from my Galaxy Tab. Hopefully Amazon gets that worked out. But otherwise it's all been great with the Echo Dot.

I'm giving it 5 stars because it's perfect given the limitations of the kind of device it is. Alexa is a learning system. She gets better the more you use her by understanding what she gets wrong of the questions you ask. On that note, it helps to be as specific as possible early on. And annunciate! She doesn't like careless speaking. The volume doesn't get particularly loud, and of course there is negligible low end, but for what it's intended purpose is, I'm very pleased. The ability to coordinate with internet radio, my house lights, the thermostat are all great features.

These dots are perfect! I already had 2 in the house but had to keep yelling down the hall at the kids playing so I simply purchased another dot and plugged it in that room and now we can conference from 1 dot to another! No more yelling lol...

Great product at a great price. Bought this one in addition to another. Allows for the device name that you speak to trigger it to be changed among a handful of choices. One echo I have set to the activation name of Alexa and the other to Echo.

This is the 4th dot we have purchased. We love them so much at home that I got one for my desk at work. It is so handy to ask questions, set reminders, check news/weather, etc. without reaching for a device and logging in and finding a site...

Due to the more compatibility with smart home devices in general i have to give hats off to Amazon for shipping out a great product. If you won't use it as much for home automation but more for simple lights and phone features like calendars then Google is the way to go for the more broad search engine. However Smart Homes should lean towards the Dot.

It was easy to set up. Can do many things by asking instead of looking up on the internet. It is just a little weird to be talking to space or Alexa. Need to be careful about mentioning her name because that will access it. The tv commercial for Echo were accessing it but I think they now have a way to eliminate it. Recommend getting a few of the cheaper Dots as the only difference is the speaker. Was watching a movie and wanted to know if that actor was still alive. Easy ask Alexa. Same with listening to any Christmas song, radio station and etc.

I have a full sized Echo, which I love, but felt a need for one in my kitchen, which is open to the family room where my husband watches "news" that is totally against my political stance. He has a right to listen and I have a right not to, but if we want dinner I need to be able to use the kitchen! My new Echo Dot is perfect--I can hear my music and drown out his programs! The size is great for the space I have, too! On a side note, my daughter has a Dot for her classroom and says it does a good job of providing background music while not being obtrusive during lessons.

I bought this for my office and it works great there. I tried 3 different radios that I had to return because I could not get any reception in my office. This does so much more that a regular radio. The price is great. I highly recommend this.

Sounds crisp and clear. Small so doesn't take up a lot of room.
