I initially purchased one of these as more or less a novelty. However; after exploring what the Echo dot could bring to my home automation system, I purchased several more for deployment around the house. The beam-forming microphone array does a very good job in discerning your voice and, unlike another popular voice controlled product I tried, does not require you to raise your voice to be heard when the TV is on. That said, noise from running water or fans blowing (white noise) in the immediate vicinity may hamper recognition. If you have several throughout the home, they vote on which one heard you best to respond. Very cool. With the right integration (almost EVERYTHING can be made to operate with Alexa using some software and hardware add-ons), you will find that you will be using this to control everything from air cleaners, humidifiers, fireplaces, lighting, door locks, garage door openers, smart outlets, and various brands of smart lighting. I am currently controlling Zigbee, Z-wave, Wink, Nest, Lifx, Lutron, WeMo and (some) Iris products. Most of these do require the purchase of a dedicated hub, to be fair, but in the end you can put them all under the Alexa umbrella if you're willing to do a bit of research. Summary: A very flexible and capable voice controlled AI assistant for home automation.

Alexa is AWESOME!! I love this Echo dot & can't live without it now. The dot is a cheap alternative to the others, and it does not disappoint.

I originally purchased this for my husband and me to use in our great room..kitchen, etc...open living area. Each week I look for other options we can enable but I eventually forget the words to use to ask the questions I want to ask. Our 11 year old likes playing games with Alexa and listening to "her" jokes. There is a lot this can be enabled to do but I haven't go the time at the moment to really utilize its full options. I use for adding things to my shopping list or to-do list and playing music from my Pandora account.

This echo dot is great if you want to try out the smart home phenomenon without investing a ton of money - if at the very least you get a Bluetooth speaker to play your music on! Alexa is great for cooking and setting timers. My lil one loves to ask Alexa for the question of the day! This Echo dot is a great tech addition! I’m going to need more!!

After downloading the ap on my phone and getting it setup. This ALEXA works like a charm. From a timer to telling jokes. Its worth the money.

Purchased for Mom, she can ask anything she wants. She can ask it to wake her up, set a timer or remind her of her Doctor appointment. Nice!

Everyone should own a product like this. It allows you to play a variety of musics, find out the current temperature,etc. Excellent product!

We purchased an Echo and I wanted the Dot so I could listen to music in another room. Love my purchase. It can also be used as an alarm clock.

This dot was added to my collection of Alexa devices. I have an Echo in my bedroom, a Tap in my living room, a Dot in my TV room and now a Dot in my kitchen. It is great for recipes,measurements,and listening to music while I cook. My husband added a small WiFi speaker to it so the sound is even better. It is small enough to sit on a shelf and not take up too much room.

This product is awesome. I use it every day. It's sits on my desk. I use it for Spotify and SiriusXM. It's connected to my computer speakers.

So many things that Alexa can do to make everyday tasks simple and efficient. Very cool the way she will tell the grandkids a bedtime story.

I’m not sure why we waited so long to jump on the Alexa band wagon. After loving our Echo we decided to get the dot for bedroom. We love it.

This product allows me to consolidate many of my morning routines, such as reading the morning news updates , weather forecasts, sports updates with my flash briefing to start the day. The music functions allow for a wide range of listening options from a Spotify link to ESPN radio. The actual size of the unit and the speaker sound are great pluses in rating the Echo Dot

I had already purchased two other Amazon Dots and an Amazon Show and purchased this one as a gift for a friend. The product does as it is described and having used one as well as the Amazon Show I decided to stay with Amazon's AI product. The Dot performs well and has continued to improve. The more you use it the better it understands your speech pattern although it does have a problem, like other such devices, in interpreting the difference in words that sound alike and I haven't figured out a way to get the device to understand which similar sounding word I wish for it to respond to. It has good range and new functions are being added all the time. Sound quality is good for a device that is this small and voice recognition is very good.

I finally decided to get one when they lowered the price. Very easy to install and use. A definite advantage if you have an Amazon account!

We love this product. Have it right by the bed for alarms and it's not too bad listening to music. Control the bedroom lights with the Dot.

Love Alexa! Combined with hue lighting and other smartphone products as well as Bluetooth sound bar and pandora radio it’s an excellent buy

We were super surprised on how easy it was to get up and running! Within minutes of opening we had our Bluetooth speaker and smartplugs paired. All of our music services were available to add as a skill and now we find we're listening to music more just because how easy it is to get going. We really love this thing and plan on getting one for every room!
