Same function, smaller footprint

The speaker is still strong enough to fill the bedroom with sound and has all of the functionality of the larger echo.

great tool for getting basic information

Almost as good as the Echo itself

When I saw the Dot was supposed to be almost the same thing even though it's so much cheaper I decided to get one of them for another room. My love of these got me to buy a Dot for my husband for Christmas and another for my craft room. My raving got a family member to buy one for a gift for her husband. I haven't played enough music on them to tell if there is a major difference even though the Dot is missing the big built in speaker on the Echo but the Dot sounded good enough for me. You can hook it up to speakers if you want fuller sound. I've used it to time things, give me measurement conversions when I was following a recipe and play a radio station when I didn't want to stop what I was doing to turn the radio on. It's capabilities are mind-boggling.
