I have only used the dot for simple basic tasks at this time for alarms, weather and reminders. Still exploring everything Alexa can do. Not sure how much use I will have for something like this, at least until I can get more skills enabled.

Recently I bought couple of dots for use in different rooms. Both of them work well and are a must for Amazon prime user due to the availability of Amazon prime music. The dot is the best way to access Amazon Alexa because most of us has already invested in a good sound system. Amazon Dot has good ability to hear Asian accent also. One of the biggest usage for me in addition to the Amazon music has been the weather app. This is a must purchase for a Amazon prime user.

Ok so let’s establish some things straight away I love my Apple products they fot my life like a glove. When I tried my Alexa dot I was a little impressed she understood me when Siri barely seemed to be paying attention. Alexa like to play Jeapordy Siri doesn’t play. You know you get into a relationship, you want it to be forever then you realize it’s not going to work you ease into the idea you never expect glove to come from the nex devise on the counter and for you guys to click so well. Alexa’s twin is dating my best friend they love each other too.

Starting point for a newbie to Smart Home automation. Unreal the number of cool things you can do with this thing!!! Every day I find new ‘Skills’ to use & play around with. Definitely in the top 5 coolest things I’ve bought in the last few years!

The Echo Dot (2nd Generation) is much smaller than the regular Echo, but it has the same functions as its big brother. The sound quality is pretty good considering its size. I would give it 5 stars if it can also use battery as power.

I love this little thing. I bought it and a nest the same day and it is an awesome setup. For $50 it's a great value and since I already had Amazon Prime, I get to listen to Amazon music which is a pretty decent service. The speakers are a little weak but that's ok with me since I plan on hooking it to a small powered speaker. I think Amazon has done an excellent job offering a completely functioning intro device for a reasonable price. I plan on buying another dot for my office and a full sized echo for the kitchen. If you have Amazon prime and $50 to spend it's a must buy.

this item is great as a gift. this cost is great, especially since it has the main features of the taller Alexa. this is the cheaper version for people that just want an extra unit in a spare room or one for the kids or an older family member that is not into tech products. this unit unlike the taller version does not have a great speaker with deep base as the taller version. i like this unit, but for my money i want to hear music as clear as possible. you really get what you pay for. i would rather have the larger version, but for a gift this is the way to go. I only wish that this would control more products, like your tv. i have seen a new commercial on tv where Google play can change the tv channel by just asking. i may have to look into that. i only hope that Amazon will allow that in the near future.

Info: Purchased in conjunction with SmartThings in order to improve home function and energy use. 1. This product is easy to use, after taking some simple steps. 2. The quality seems good as it is made of plastic, and doesn’t have moving parts just four buttons and a couple of plug in ports. 3. It is geared for someone with good WiFi, a bit of technical understanding, and clear pronunciation as it has a tendency to misunderstand those with thick accents. 4. The pros include availability, cost, growing skills, and good instructions. 5. The cons include some limitations to understanding, need for other items to round out functionality. 6. There are some alternatives available, but some come at a higher cost and the market is adopting this product well at this time. 7. At this time, the product was worth the cost.

I really thought that the Amazon echo line of products were a unique technology and probably more of passing trend, but I must say they are Amazing... I bought the first device to try out some home automation features and to listen to some music. After spending a few days exploring all the things that can be enabled with Alexa skills, I am a devoted user. So much so that I have them in my offices and have upgraded to the bigger device (The Echo)! Voice recognition is amazing for such a small unit and the sound playback in its built in speaker is great for a device of this size!

This has a lot of uses. Can get general info, news, weather, traffic, sports with just a question. Can handle reminders and multiple timers. Can stream music and radio stations (weak speakers are the only drawback). Can help control smart home items like lights and thermostats. Many uses, should get good mileage out of it, if you commit and go all in.

Whether listening to music, getting the daily weather report or playing games, the echo dot provides much entertainment for a low price.
