Great for controlling home automation

The biggest advantage of the 2nd generation Echo Dot that makes it superior to the 3rd generation is that it works with a standard micro usb power input. This allows you to choose any cord length, color, wall block you want for your particular installation. The 3rd gen only works with the provided supply.

Alexa is amazing

My only issues are that it lacks an optical audio connection and that it outputs audio through the 3.5mm jack pretty quietly. Still love it though.
