If you've got several smart devices around your house, Alexa's pretty great. She interfaces with my Rachio, Smartthings, Harmony Hub, Hue, Ring, even my doorlock. It's nice to be able to tell alexa to unlock the door when I have visitors arrive. Only complains I have is that she's hard of hearing sometimes, always have to speak with a purpose to activate her. Wish there was a way to increase sensitivity. The other complaint is lack of sync between multiple Echo's and Dots. They've been talking about it forever but still haven't done it. Being able to sync my music across all my dots would pretty much make it the perfect device.

While not a fully artificially intelligent gadget, the Echo Dot is a wonderful addition to any household.

Amazon's Echo Dot with Alexa is supportive as it is innovative. It is highly responsive to any voice and utilizes a whole set of skills (voice commands) to perform various events, such as play music, switch on or off lights, explain things off the web, tell you the time and date, and much more--she even develops new knowledge almost every day through the Alexa app. Definitely worth the purchase.

I have the full size Echo and bought this for a second room. It works exactly the same and I have it connected to an external speaker. Love these products for controlling my lights.

Love the echo dot. Using it it to turn lights on and off , weather, traffic etc Will add more in the future

Pretty new to using Alexa, so I cannot say it is bad or good. I like playing music and being able to get weather and news updates when I ask. I am still learning what all I can do.

I bought six for presents. Everyone is ranting and raving over the Echo.dot. I am so glad I purchase this item.

So let me start by saying that at first this thing is a blast. Everything you see on tv is right in line with what you will get, a cool gadget that has a few tricks. That being said, as far as being practical, it has a ways to go. Don't expect it to be anything more than an entertaining electronic toy for the most parts. It has useful tools but getting them to work seamlessly is anything but seamless and requires lot of time and setup and then you must learn the correct commands as it is not very intuitive in that way. I have a feeling this will improve with time however and I wouldn't discourage you from purchasing especially for the price.....
