I can tell Alexa to turn lights on and off, ask what the weather is, play SiriusXM (if you have a subscription) and what the news is. I’m surprised how loud the speaker is and how well the microphones are to hear your voice far away. I ended up buying a second one for another floor of the house because I liked it so much.

Useful, cool, but not unlimited capability

The "flash briefing" is a nice feature that allows you to get a morning update on all the news (e.g. CNN, BBC, Newsy, MSNBC, et al). It cannot do complicated commands like, "Alexa, set a reminder for next Tuesday, at 10 AM, to have me call my agent." Be selective about what control accessories (i.e. light switches, cameras, thermostat) you select, many of them require enrollment in a third party website to establish a link with Alexa. Read the reviews, all of them, and stay with 4 star + products. If you are in-store, talk to a Geek.

Amazon Dot is great!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already owned the Echo but the Bluetooth distance wasn't far enough for a Bluetooth speaker at my pool so I decided to get a Dot for my bedroom. So glad I did! It is great! It does everything that the Echo does. Now I listen to music at night, set alarms when needed and place music in my pool. I'd definitely get one! Remember, this is not build to be super loud so make sure you have a good speaker to connect to it.
