The dot is a great device to test drive Alexa and her functions. Also it great for someone who doesn't care about having a sound system to hear music. Since the dot I have purchased the echo that has a great sound system the fills my room with crystal clear music. The home kit work great I don't have to get up out of bed to turn off the lights now. One of many functions the are great with this device.

Like to compact size. Speaker quality could be better but for size we love it.

Bought this for my mom. She loves it because all she has to do is talk to it.

I own both the full size Amazon Echo and now the Dot. The Dot is much more useful than I originally thought. The speaker is okay...not for listening to music..but fine for basic spoken word. This is a good and inexpensive way to broaden your home automation. However, these Amazon Echo products do not yet "sync" with each other - eg to play music. However, the Google Home devices do sync with music.

Alexa doesn't always understand what I'm asking, but it's a lot of fun. I ask her for the forecast, add appointments to my calendar and play Jeopardy.

As it turns out, Alexa doesn't have a GPS tracker. My Echo Dot was stolen out of my apartment from under my nose, and the device didn't 'ding' to signal the power was cut off. I'm not sure if the 3rd gen fixed this problem, but I can't even go about tracking where my Echo Dot is because they haven't set it up yet! I've tried checking the Alexa apps on my phone, my laptop, and through a browser, but I'm just not able to track her down. That's the only reason I took a star off: it lacks security features.

I have an Amazon Echo in my kitchen and like it. I bought this Dot to work with my Sonos 1 in my bedroom. It is very hard to use and seldom does what I want with the Sonos. Not worth it.
