Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Echo Dot (2nd generation)'s ease of use, sound quality, and small size, frequently praising its affordability and Bluetooth connectivity. While some users found the setup a bit challenging and noted occasional issues with Alexa's responsiveness or volume, the positive feedback on its core features outweighs these concerns. Many appreciate its use as an alarm clock and its integration with smart home devices.

I love the echo but it does seem to get really laggy at times or freeze or not respond to my voice that well. For example, there's been times where I set a timer or alarm and when I say "echo stop" it just keeps going and going, I will say it over and over again, til I have to just unplug it to make it stop. Sometimes it will cut me off in the middle of what I'm saying when I'm setting a reminder. But it does rarely happen and for the most part, it's awesome to have. The games are fun, it plays music very clear, the speakers are good if your just wanting something to listen to in one room. Not loud enough to hear throughout the house though.

The kids love it they ask Alexa a lot of questions and get it to play their favorite music. It's also great for a quick news and weather update. We do not have any other home automation products so our use is rather limited. I find though that Alexa isn't always able to anser what I think are simple questions. Maybe after more use we'll get better at asking and knowing how to form questions. Easy to set up and pairs nicely with blue tooth speakers.

This was my first step into home automation, since they were only $40 during a Father's Day sale. I bought one as an experiment and I now have three Dots, one Echo, and one Tap. They all perform the same function (voice activated commands) but the Dot is much smaller and can blend into your home a lot easier. The speaker on it is more than adequate for 99% of my needs and can be connected to speakers via wire or Bluetooth if needed. And when compared to the Echo, much, much cheaper. The Amazon Echo App does let you change the name (wake-up word) of the Dots and Echos so that a device in one room does not turn on when you wake a device in a nearby room. Initially, I did not do this, and when I would talk to Alexa in the bedroom, the one in the living room would also answer. I love it and it integrates into other smart-home application very easily. I can control my sprinklers, turn on my security system, ask how long my commute will be today, ask for movie times, etc. If you're going to automate your home, this adds voice activation to most, if not all, of it.

The Echo Dot is a fun inexpensive way to get started in the world of 'personal assistants'. It's fun to play with and ask silly questions if you have children who like jokes, or if adults need answers to questions. It does many things, like giving directions and distances, giving the weather, playing music on demand if you have amazon music. It can give you recipe ingredients, play many, many different sleep sounds to give you a restful nights sleep. If you are thinking about getting one of the personal assistants, this is a great one, and since it is so small, it doesn't 'stick out' in your room like a tower type would.

I purchased two Echo Dots and an Echo to compliment my smart home setup. I use the Dots in two rooms where I just want to be able to ask them to perform smart home tasks and they are great. I have the Echo in my office for a better speaker experience. The Dots are small enough to put anywhere and are a great device to be able to ask questions and interact with smart home items. The speaker is good enough for me but I am no audiophile.

I own this along with several other Amazon devices (several fire sticks, fire stick 4K TV, fire cube) and I like how I am able to use it to playback streamed music, turn on and off lights, give me a breakdown of news, local weather and travel time. It can also answer some questions and give information on various subjects. If you have any additional Echos, you can actually use the app on your phone to use them as an intercom system in your house to call someone from a upstairs bedroom. Also, if you've ordered something from Amazon, the Echo has a pulsing yellow light letting you know that your package is going to be delivered within the next 24 hours. This is the 2nd generation and it works well. I would imagine Amazon may have made some slight improvements but you could purchase one of these at a discounted price now because the 3rd gen is out. It's an inexpensive way to start trying out a smart home device.

Currently have 3 Echo dots, using it for home automation and works like a charm. Upgraded home to Leviton & Lutron smart switches, Ecobee 3 thermostat with 4 sensors and Orbit B-Hyve sprinter controller. Love the fact that i can control my home with Alexa, I mean Echo Dot. Just add the scenes and you are good to go. You can ask basic questions and Alexa will answer back with fairly good results. I'm impressed on two fronts: Voice recognition is way (way) better than Siri (I'm an Apple fan with everything else Apple at home) and response time is simply amazing, replies back instantaneously. Really with the my echo dot purchase from best buy, I ended up buying 2 echo and 2 echo dots from Target (better deal). Ended up returning the big brothers "Echo" as they are literally useless. Could not listen and respond to instructions, and the sound was absolutely terrible. So ended up keeping just the echo dots and am very happy with them. If you want music, the entire echo family is limited as they cannot play your Apple music or Google music family. If you are invested there (in my case Apple Music) then you are out of luck. Echo (Dot or big brother) have limited music selection and will always annoy you, asking to upgrade to Amazon Music unlimited which I'm not interested in (mostly because of their sound quality). So bottomline, if you are into home automation and in absence of Apple homepod (and terrible home kit support), echo dot is the way to go specially given the price of $29. Avoid any other Echo product, they just suck.

I got one of these on a whim. I wasn't sure if I would even use it. Well... I love Alexa! Paired with philips hue lighting, I walk into a room and say" Alexa, turn the lights on" and without skipping a beat she does. As I'm leaving, I say, " Alexa turn the lights off." and she does. Works with Ecobee. Gives me a 5 minute news briefing as I get ready. Tells me the weather, tells my son super short stories (Via bedtime story skill), and can answer questions that people have while discussing current events. "Alexa, how old is Madonna?" We loved it so much that we bought one for my mother-in-law. She loves it. She has Alexa playing all her favorite tunes from when she was a kid. I can't recommend it enough. Nerd alert: You can now change the name to Computer. You could also name your Ecobee thermostat to, "Life Support" So you would say, "Computer, set life support to 26 (degrees celsius)." Of course, that is Starfleet standard. (78.8 degrees F, if you don't want to change to Celsius.)

For people new to this, this little dot works just like the tall Amazon Echo. The only difference is that the built in speaker is much smaller....but plenty loud. I have to tell Alexa to lower the volume! I put the big Echo in my kitchen for music...and this dot is stashed in my bathroom where I can check time, weather, or turn off lights as I ready for bed. You can use a bluetooth speaker if you want music.Love it!!

This Echo dot is so nice. It is very small and easy to use. You literally take it out of the package and plug it in, connect to your WiFi and download the Alexa app for your echo dot. It is that easy. Plays music if you ask Alexa to. It will even send a text to your child for you if you ask it to. This little tech gadget is genius and well worth the $30 that I spent on it. I rated this a five out of five stars.

So, i have been using this little puck for a few weeks, getting different actions to work and setting up some external skills like Lutron switches and dimmers. The voice recognition is very good, only missing what I say on a few occasions. It was likely me not speaking clearly. I use this for music, lights and a morning alarm clock, weather report, etc. All of the things i want do work...i will be adding more skills soon. The only real nuance is getting used to doing some things that normally would require a visual result, which Alexa does not do. but, Amazon has thoughtfully put these results on your phone in the Alexa app. No worries. The market for the skills is continually expanding and allows for control of virtually anything that follows the multiple integration standards. Very interesting to interact with. I would suggest getting the Echo dot and experiment before spending lots of $$$ since the devices all use the same cloud services. Enjoy!

I purchased this with the plug and I am able to activate whatever is plugged into it just by saying Alexa turn on...., I currently have a light which works great. I have it paired with a blue tooth speaker for better sound for my music. Much easier to ask Alexa things like the weather or random facts, then having to go to my computer. All in All I think it is a great function to add to any home.

Originally Sceptical about getting this device, as why is it needed? Got on sale to give it a try. At the very least, it is bluetooth speaker. The small size makes in a good traveling solution. The Dot does much more, I haven’t even touched its capacities. It plays music apps, including iHeart radio. It works as timer, reminder, alarm clock. It will give weather conditions, notifications of packages delivered, and has sound machine. Only complaint is it seems to stop playing sound machine all night, Think Internet or wifi is dropping signal.

Bought the Eco Dot on a whim to be honest, but I have to say I really like it and it's very useful for news, weather, calendar, music and so on. Woke up this morning and before I was out of bed I had a weather report for the day, flash news and a little jazz. very glad I was in a impulsive mood yesterday. I was also really surprised by the built in speaker not bad at all. Better with my sound bar of course.

The Echo Dot is definitely worth the money. It is loads of fun listening to music and even playing games. I use the alarm feature every morning, and then I tell Alexa to play my favorite wake up songs. Of course, there are lots of other things the Echo Dot offers besides music, games, and alarms. The device's use of Alexa allows it to do many things similar to Apple devices using Siri. Alexa isn't currently able to match Siri when it comes to certain things like providing thorough answers to questions on subjects from A-Z, but Amazon is constantly adding to and improving those capabilities every day - plus you can "teach" Alexa all kinds of skills yourself or use some of the tricks other developers and users offer through the Alexa app. When it comes to accurately understanding what I'm actually saying, Alexa beats Siri hands down almost every time. That is worth a lot to me. Siri doesn't understand much of what I say, so I end up getting frustrated from having to repeat myself multiple times and then redoing things she gets wrong. I don't use Siri much anymore because of that. With Alexa, I rarely ever have that problem. The Echo Dot is small enough and inexpensive enough to purchase and use in numerous places. I plan on buying at least one or two more Echo Dots for other rooms in my house.

The Echo Dot is is perfect for someone that wants the basics for a smart device that doesn't take up too much room. I have bought one for my living room after buying two Echo Shows and a Amazon Echo. Although I use the Dot main to play music on occasion, it's mainly to handle my Phillips Hue lighting. Be warned, any of these Amazon products with Alexa become very addictive!
